We are joining Arty, Jakey, Rosy and Sunny of the LLB Gang with much thanks for hosting Nature Friday.

The evaluation:

The approach:

First contact (almost):

The Schnauzer and the Tortoise:
No turtles or schnauzers were hurt in the making of this video.
Eyes look brown…probably a female. Isn’t it cool how all their shells are unique but still totally identifiable as a Woodland Box Turtle. Thanks for sharing this. XOCK, angel Lily Olivia, angel Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, angel Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo, Cooper Murphy, Sawyer & Kizmet

We’ve heard those snappers are ungrateful and also cannibals. They’ll snap another turtle’s head off!

Those turtles are fascinating…we have lots around here, too, but the bigger ones don’t visit us because they cannot get through our fence fabric. A huge snapper tried once and got stuck…and had the nerve to be very angry at petcretary when she rescued it out of its predicament…with a shovel and wheelbarrow! LOL!

How cool that you got to meet a turtle. It’s probably good that you were sniffing his back end in case the front end belonged to a snapping turtle.

No, after we all went back in the house he went into the woods and we haven’t seen him since. Mommy says she doesn’t think he will be back. XOX Xena

It sure was unexpected! And I didn’t think I had to tell him who was boss, so I didn’t bark at him. XOX Xexe

I didn’t even bark at the turtle, Miss Sandra. He went on into the woods after I went back into the house. Umm no, he smelled like a turtle, I guess. Daddy said he is a land species.

She doesn’t know what to make of it. Her first encounter with a turtle! She ended up turning around and running back up to the house.

Wow, what an exciting encounter in your very own yard. Usually we have to walk blocks to find any wildlife encounter. You approached it so nicely too.
