Xena here. Mommy often opens the porch door and lets me run around the rest of our back and side yard. She knows I won’t leave the yard, and always stays outside to be sure I’m safe. I love rooting around in any holes I find, and following scents. I especially like the area around the shed and the area along the far side of the driveway and the area where the cactus garden is. So, for Nature Friday, with Rosy and Sunny of The LLB Life hosting, I wanted y’all to see this pretty cactus flower.

Me and Mommy think it’s very unusual. Although I guess if you live where there’s lots of cactus, you don’t think it’s more unusual than we think tulips and daffodils are. (We don’t think they are unusual..just wanted to be clear about that.) So I’m gonna wrap up with a picture of the cactus and me! Well, and some yucca plants and other things we don’t know what they are.

Have a great weekend, friends! XOX Xena
It’s the little one next to it that has all the pointy sticky hurty things on it. That’s why I haven’t gone near it lately! XOX Xena

Even here in the mountain desert area called Denver, we enjoy cactus…but from afar. Nothing worse than stepping on one of those or worst sniffing it too closely. Such remarkable plants that can survive on a thimble full of water. How cool is that?

Xena, that is a very special cactus, so beautiful in blossom, and without. No cactus here, too cold.
Have a great day.

Lulu: “Cactus! We have lots of cactus here out in front where the rocks are. They had pretty flowers earlier in the year.”
Java Bean: “Tell us more about rooting around in the holes! Such fun!”

Xena hey pretty girl yes the cactus flower is very pretty. You’re just like Chloe wanting to root in the ground to see what’s going on. I hope you have a great weekend. Love, Chloe

You’re so right, and Xena always heads right there because critters have holes in that area. She hasn’t gone lately, so wondering if she got “pricked.” She’s a fast learner.

Your Mom’s right, it didn’t look like a real flower, but I didn’t try to eat it. XOX Xena

do not touch that cactus!!!! when i was about 10 years old, i saw a big one of those laying on the ground, the size of your biggest one there and PICKED IT UP… i was full of spines for days. do not touch that cactus. the flower is gorgeous and all cactus flowers are. I think they have lovely flowers because the plant is so plain and not beautiful.

WOW that is a pretty little yellow cactus flower…..my Mom says it almost looks “liquid” – like a lemon meringue! Whatever that is – it sounds delicious.
