Lucy’s Poetic Thankful Thursday

Hi friends, it’s me, Lucy, back again having fun with a picture by Angel Sammy I know I did this last week, but my little sister who owns this blog by inheritance from Angel Lexi – did I get that all right, Xena? Yes? Great. Anyhow she told me to go ahead and take it again this week. The whole thing was a bit scary to her and she was afraid if she let Chia hop in the picture she would tear the whole thing apart. As it was, I’m too big to fit through all that mess, so no picture of any of us will be added this time.

The Lost Meaning of Christmas by Lucy

It seems some folks have more money than sense;
At least it’s all held within their own fence.
Just think of all the poor peeps they could assist
If the meaning of Christmas they hadn’t missed.

Chia: Wow, I coulda had soooo much fun running around in there! Maybe you would of even heard “pop!” “pop” “pop” *whole body wags* Now that woulda really scared Xeboo out of her furs!!
Lucy: That does sound like fun, except for the scaring Xena part and the destroying someone’s property part, but I think you’re still missing what Christmas is all about. It’s great that we get presents and special treats. But without the birth of the Christ child, none of that would be happening. Hey, I’ve got an idea. I know it’s the day after Christmas, but why don’t we ask Mom to read us the story about how it all started? You’ve never had a chance to go to church to learn these things like me and Xena have, and Angel Lexi before us.
Chia: A story? OK!

Xena: Thanks, Lucy, for handling that and for the meaningful, if short, poem. We all want to say how thankful we are for the many good friends we have in Blogville. We rejoice when you rejoice and cry when you cry. That’s what friends do, right? Hoping everyone had a wonderful Christmas, or Chanukah for our Jewish friends.

And, as always I’m thankful for Angel Brian, who does such a great job at hosting Thankful Thursday.

  2. Sweet Lucy…your poem is absolutely pawfect. Sadly, I’m afraid there are too many of those folks around these days. And Chia…I think the right sound for those inflatables is #psst. Xena, you were very sweet to share the spotlight again this week. Blessings to you all with our best wishes for a wonderful 2025 that’s more meaningful than cluttered. 😉

  3. Wow!!! That’s some yard, isn’t it? I’d hate to have to put all that stuff away after the holiday. lol!! But I agree with you about Christmas. It was an incredibly busy (at times exhausting) holiday season this year. Maybe next year we can come up with a plan to achieve more of a balance: still enjoy the activities that come with Christmas, but make more time to slow down and meditate on the true meaning of Advent and the birth of Jesus and how we can apply that to our lives. We should be able to do that, right? I mean, we’ve got all of 2025 to figure it out. lol!! Btw, does your mom use an Advent devotional each year to stay focused on the meaning of the season? If so, which one?

  4. That’s a great poem even if you don’t believe in the reason for the season. There is much more that anyone can do with all the money wasted on buying all those things to put up and the electric bill to keep them lit for so long.

  5. It sounds like a wonderful way to start the day – with the story of WHY we celebrate Christmas is special indeed. We agree with the “overdone” decorations at that house – how does the mailman get to their mailbox?? How does company come to visit?? Anyway, we loved your poem Lucy and my Mom said she’s glad she doesn’t have to clean up that yard – we have decorations outside that will take about 5 minutes to bring back inside and pack up for another year! WOO HOO!

    Love and Holiday Hugs, Teddy (and Mom)
