Happy Tuesday: Chia’s Walk with Gracie

Chia: Hey there friends, do you remember last Thursday when I said “Gracie’s here! I’m thankful for another chance to try to get her to be my friend and play with me!!” Well, she said she doesn’t play. She said it had nothing to do with me. She just doesn’t play. But, she said, we could take walks together.

Yes! I love to go on walks! I love to pull as hard as I can so my toenails get ground down without that awful Dremel thingie. Off leash I can run about 1 point 5 million miles a minute! But Mom can’t keep up.

We walked all the way down to the cul-de-sac and around it toward home. This time, I walked without pulling so hard…or hardly at all!

After our last walk, Mom had figured out I have always known what she wants when she tells me to walk with her, and I’m just ignoring her. She says it hurts her arthritic thumbs and sometimes her whole arm every time she walks me. (If she just took me off the leash it wouldn’t hurt, right?) Anyhoo, she took me out back to boot camp. She explained that if I didn’t start doing what I know to do someone’s boot was going to end up in my rear end. We practiced with some things she is sure I know, like “sit.” I often ignore that, too. But I suddenly felt motivated. You shoulda seen how fast my rear end hit the ground!

So I got to walk with Gracie, and Mom didn’t get upset with me. It was a pretty good day!

  1. Oh no! Mom says she’s going to check out that Kurgo thingie! (I went crazy on our walk today when I saw my favorite neighbor. Like, psycho crazy. Mom had to carry me home while Miss Pam walked Xena and Lucy.) Mom thinks I need psychiatric help… XOXOXOX Chia

  2. I, Dalton, am a puller, too, and I always want to be in front of both Petcretary and Benji. I wear a Kurgo harness, and it helps somewhat…but doesn’t stop me from getting all tangled up in our leashes, BOL!! MJF wore a nose harness with goo effect, but I freak out when she’s tried it on me.

Benji walks nicely! He doesn’t really ‘heel’ but he hardly ever pulls!

  3. Mom has one like that for Lucy and it she never pulls when it’s on her. Oh cr*p. Now you’ve done it. Mom’s online with Petco…hey Mom, I’ll be good *cute wiggles* *toes crossed*

  4. Boy you’re a crafty little girl. I have two different kinds and there’s no way anyone is getting out of it. I switched to the one with the front hook to keep Wilson frm racing up/down the stairs at the hospital. Now he’s very good about not pulling. Good luck.

  5. Yep. I slipped out of the last one and the neighbors teamed up to catch me! It was like a conspiracy or something. Now she’s using a different kind and I haven’t figured out how to get out of it yet. XOXOX Chia

  6. Yep. Salmonella goes right through us dogs. Mom has to be careful to cleaning up our poop, though! (But she always washes her hand anyhow.)
And raw pork and salmon have to be frozen for 3 weeks before we can eat it. Something about killing parasites…

  9. Mom reminded me again yesterday before going for a walk, and I refused to sit. I don’t know why. I just wouldn’t. So I didn’t get to go on a walk. Grrr, arrr, mmmm.

  10. It sounds like you had a nice pain-free walk today. And no boot in the rear. Always a blessing!! 🤣 So sorry to hear about your mom’s arthritic thumbs. Be good to her. Remember, she’s the one who cooks up all that tasty food for you. And treats. What a lucky pup you are!! 🩷
