Amy’s Sunday Selfie

I’m a bit late with this, but better late than never, right? As some of you already know, Jeff and I love to go ballroom dancing. That’s how we met. Then we started taking lessons together. Then we became dance partners. Then we became friends. We slowly “grew” in love and last month celebrated our 17th wedding anniversary. (We had both been married previously.)

In the spring and the fall there is a big supper dance at what used to be called Fairyland Club on top of Lookout Mountain. The view is spectacular, especially at night, when all the lights of Chattanooga – down below the mountain – can be seen. We had a good meal, then the band that Jeff plays in – Sweet Georgia Sound – started to play. But without Jeff. He promised me when we wed that he would take me to these dances and find a sub to play tenor sax for him.

Everyone really dresses up for this dance. I had gotten a new dress (on clearance!) and a couple of friends asked me to get pictures in it to show them. I thought, what the heck, I might as well do the Sunday selfie today, too! So here am I, posing, with Jeff next to me.

You can tell we were cutting up and having a good time!

Many thanks to  The Cat on My Head  for hosting Sunday selfies! Hoping everyone has a good week ahead.

  1. Lulu: “It might be kind of like what your mom does with you, Xena! Most of the time at these showcases students perform routines that they learned from their instructor, but on those rare occasions when our Mama and Dada participate, they just go out there and wing it. Apparently stringing random moves together is kind of our Dada’s specialty …”

  2. BOL, Java Bean. Don’t even say that where our Daddy could hear or he might try it! Oh, and Mommy wants to know what dance your folks are going to do. She’s not familiar with the term Freestyle except how it relates to dancing with me. (And she doesn’t think that’s what you meant.) XOX Xena

  4. Java Bean: “Ayyy, it is nice to see you at the big dance! You sure are looking sharp together! I can see where it would be hard to dance while playing the tenor saxophone …”
Lulu: “Rumor has it our Mama and Dada are considering doing a freestyle at the studio for the upcoming Christmas showcase ― if they do, it would be the first time Dada has participated in an event since he was in the hospital way back in 2019. Bean and Oona weren’t even born yet!”

  6. Thank you so much! Jeff plays in Sweet Georgia Sound out of Chattanooga. They don’t play jazz…they play the American Standard Song Book. Songs you can dance waltz, foxtrot, rumba, cha cha, tango, And yes, here’s a link: https://sweetgeorgiasound.info/ You can click on videos to see more. A lot of it is outdated (the person who’s supposed to be updating the site has slacked!)

  7. Oh my goodness!! You are gorgeous!! And that dress is stunning. I had no idea Jeff played sax in a band. I LOVE jazz!!! It’s my fav. I could listen to it all day. Especially jazz clarinet and Pete Fountain. What is the name of Jeff’s band? Do they have any videos posted on YouTube? I’d love to hear them!!!
