Just two more days and it’s my 9th birthday. I was laying in bed this morning after breakfast (which was an hour late but I didn’t complain) thinking about being 8.

It was a pretty good year. I got to go to the church a lot. And ate good food. And had my sisters here. But we lost Riley, and he and I were good friends. So that’s a sad thing. But he needed to go, I know. And I know I always seem to be self-confident when I write my blog. Just like I do when I see people other than my family.

But the truth is, I’m still scared of a lot of stuff, like if someone lifts their hand up like they might be going to hit me. No one ever hits me, or even almost hits me. It’s just from my first year before I got my furever Mom and Dad. Now I know I’m safe and loved. In fact, everyone seems to love me, so I should feel better about myself. Hey, maybe that’s why Mom named me “Lucy.” There’s a TV show – or so I’ve been told – called “I love Lucy.” Thanks, Mom. I love you and Dad too, and also Xena and Chia and all my friends in the neighborhood and at work, and all my blogging friends, too. So come visit me anytime you want, and I’ll always make you feel welcome.

  7. Happy early barkday wishes, sweet Lucy. We’re so sorry you still have lingering PTSD effects from your previous life. But know your Mommy and Daddy love you very much and would do just about anything for you. We hope 2025 will be a ‘furbulous’ year for you. 💙

  8. Happy birthday, gorgeous Lucy!!! I know how you feel. It’s hard to overcome childhood trauma. You think you’ve moved past it, but then something happens unexpectedly to trigger it. And you realize the old “protection response” is still there. Although now when your sweet Mom raises her hand it’s because there could be a treat in it. Why? Because her heart overflows with love for you every day!! What a lucky, lucky girl you are, Miss Lucy!! 🩷

  16. Well, Lucy, happy 9th birthday early 🎂🎁🎈🎉. Did you know our Sawyer is very frightened of hands coming near him, especially if he sees them coming? But he lets our mom come right up and kiss his head as that is non-threatening. We are so sorry you lost your best friend Riley in 2024, but remember that you will be together again. Now, get up, run around and have some fun. You are loved. Thanks for hopping with us. Send me your phone number or email so I can contact you if I find a schnauzer for you. He or she will never replace precious, beautiful Mattie, but will help with the healing and bring joy into your life again.

  19. I stand and stare at my Mom and she says, “What do you want, Lucy?” And then I tell her. Maybe someday I can convince Mom to bring me to visit you! *Smiles* Lucy

  21. I just wanted you to know that Mattie is resting with the angels. I am so brokenhearted. She developed heart problems in addition to her diabetes and blindness. It has been rough. If you hear of anyone who needs to rehome an older schnauzer or you know a breeder who has pups, please let me know. I miss her so much.

  22. I can truthfully say I LOVE LUCY! and have since the day I set eyes on your eyes. I wish we could meet. I would love to meet all of you, canine and human and some of GM patients too.. Happy Almost Birthday. i love you as much as all the hearts surrounding you and I am so sorry for your first year of life. Baby Girl had 10 months of a horrid life before she came to us and she cringed every time we moved and arm or leg, we think they kicked her in the butt… I was able to help her through that by playing a game, tapping her butt, with a broom lightly and laughing and saying woo woo woo, I am going to get you, we would laugh and clap. she was only 10 months old. she lived 15 years of the good life with us. just like you are doing. you both found the right home and right siblings
