Sorry this isn’t a “fun” post. It’s me, Amy. I felt led to send out a warning to all of you, my blogging friends. Today someone new subscribe to my site. Happens all the time, right? Then of course, the info was right there to look at his site. So I did. And I knew by the loop it put me in that something wasn’t right, so I closed it. Too late.
Several hours later “Google” and “McAfee” kept popping up, saying that my computer was infected with malware and telling me to click on a button on the pop up. I was wary, so I just closed the pop ups. They came right back! No matter how many times I closed them, they just popped right back.
Thank goodness my hubbie is an experienced IT guy. He knew I didn’t have McAfee and that what was popping up was the malware from the earlier site. He got it all off my laptop and everything’s OK now.
If a “like” or “following” comes from “calebchrt at gmail”, delete it. And go into your website and delete him from following you.
This whole thing really bothers me beyond it infecting my computer. WordPress emails me notifications when someone new is following me. I almost always go check them out. I have many bogger friends who began following me, and who , in return I followed. Now I don’t know what I’ll do when someone new “follows” my site. *sigh*
Just be careful. There’s a lot more like “caleb” out there.
Now, to end on a happier note. Enjoy!

LOL! My pups, too. My WP is also set that way, but there was no comment, only the “follow” and it didn’t catch it.

Thanks for the warning. Feel as tho I’ve a fairly good security system on my pc, but nothing is 100%. One reason I have the blog set to “approve” all comments, have caught a few “bad boys” there over time thankfully. Now, it’s the ones on my I.Phone, all day long telling me by the dozen about all the traffic tickets I owe in Florida and how my non-existent license is going to be suspended and my car impounded: horrors! I am so afraid of them … HA! My only other in-house help is a silly cat, and she’d welcome anyone who’d offer a treat!!!

Java Bean: “Ayyy, accursed scammers! They have gotten several of Dada’s older relatives and friends a few times and he has had to help them out. They scare you with those pop-ups and then try to steal your stuff, instead of stealing it off your counters like we honest hard-working dogs do!”
Lulu: “We’re glad your hubby was there to get the bad stuff off your computer!”

Amy thankful you got it taken care of before it was a huge mess.
Last week I received an email addressed to my husband from McAfee telling me my renewal was complete. I’ve never had McAfee. That was my first clue something was stinky. Then being addressed to my husband. He never does anything on the computer related to renewals, ordering etc.
It told me 210.00 USD had been successfully deducted…but didn’t say from where…told me to call support ## if I had questions. Of course calling that number is where they reel you in hook line and sinker. I just printed out the email then reported it as spam.

I’m glad your husband knew what to do. There are so many icky people out there.
Have a fabulous day and week. Scritches to the pups. ♥

Amy, thank you for the warning. I made a note of that address. It is almost impossible to do anything without these nasty folks trying to get you. XOCK, angels Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta & Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo, Cooper Murphy, Sawyer, Kizmet, Audrey & Raleigh

I guess maybe wait and see if these “followers” start leaving legit comments. (Even some of the comments are standard stuff used to deceive. WordPress catches those.)

So sorry for your Dad, hopefully he can get it taken care of quickly and completely.

Thanks for the heads up. So sorry this happened to you-we do the same thing when someone new comes along. Doggone it…really hate it when people do stuff like that. Luckily for you, you have in-house help who can get rid of the evil doer. Stay safe, Amy.

Oh so sorry that happened but thankfully you and your husband figured it out and got you back to square one. I am wary of new followers too and always check them out but even then you really just don’t know FOR SURE. Thanks for the warning – everyone should be careful these days that’s for sure!!

So scary and annoying, too.
I have 7 or 8 pages of subcribers, the latest one came today, but without links. I saw he was from algeria, not to be racist or anything, but it put up my defense mode…there are sadly so many predators out there…sigh…

That’s so horrible. Luckily you have a tech support person on site to fix it for you. I just checked my list of subscribers and don’t have that one (so far). I almost never click on those links from subscribers since I know most of them are just fishing for followers to their blogs and aren’t really interested in what I post.

OMG Amy this is awful. WordPress has been such a safe place all these years. I’m so relieved Hubby is an IT guy!! Thank you for sharing this info with us. I’ll go check my Noties as soon as I sign off here! Not sure what to advise about future ‘subscribers’….. this is a whole new situation here!
