Lucy: Our new friends are here! They arrived last night. Sasha, the Boxer/Boston Terrier mix, and me, well, we’ve been hangin’. I had to set her straight about sticking her nose up my behind, but she understood and all is good. Sasha has even learned to use the doggie door to the dog lot, and we go in and out together.

Xena: Oliver, the Pomeranian/Papillon mix, wont’ have anything to do with the doggie door. Mommy has to open the whole door for him to go out and come back in. Mommy groomed Oliver this morning. He had a LOT of hair, and his Mom said he was too hot. Here’s a picture of him and Sasha chillin’ out after his groom.

I wanna say, just because we’re the same size, I hope Mommy doesn’t expect me to be his friend.

Chia: I fussed at them both last night until we went to bed. At least they didn’t get to come sleep in the bedroom with us. But why should they care? They had the whole rest of the house to find a good sleep spot, right? Today I’ve been more accepting and not fussing at them as much. You gotta hear what happened when Oliver was in the tub this morning! He started talking to Mom just like I do! And when Mom told him that he was doing that, he said, “Uh huh.” I promise you, I’m telling the truth! Maybe he’s ok after all.

Happy Saturday from Lucy, Xena and Chia, and our new friends Oliver and Sasha asked to say hi to everyone.

  4. Maybe it’s true for some breeds I’ve never groomed, but not for the ones I have. I’ve also shaved Collies, King Charles Spaniels, Poms, Aussies, and more, never to the detriment of their undercoat growing back just like it was.

  6. I’m so glad to hear you say that!! I love a shaved look for dogs with an over abundance of fur. Especially with our sizzling hot summers. They always say the dog’s coat will never grow back the same and will look patchy and ugly. I’m glad to hear that’s not true!!

  7. I’ve heard that too, and I’ve done many a groom on dogs who have undercoats, including schnauzers, and it always grows back just the way it was. My nephew schnauzer Piper lost his undercoat, but it was from a medical condition. When that happens, you can’t shave them as close or they look naked.

  8. I know!! He’s gorgeous with all that fluff. But it has to be very uncomfortable in the heat. I didn’t realize that breed had a thick undercoat. Some groomers say don’t do a short cut or shave on a dog with an undercoat, and some say it’s just fine. I personally like a short cut. What are your thoughts on that?

  10. They’re supposed to go home Saturday sometime. At least they don’t get to sleep in the big bed. Dad said, no! There’s no more room! We’re still all working out the friend thing. XOX Lucy

  12. My goodness, you did a beautiful groom on Oliver!!! He doesn’t even look like the same dog. Wow!!! I can only imagine how much better he feels. That was way too much hair in this heat. Whew!!!

    Chia: the little squirt won’t back down when I show him my teeth. DANG!
    Lucy: I like Sasha. Maybe we could be friends. She’s stopped sticking her nose in my butt.

  15. But I sit in front of this little jerk and show my teeth and he has the nerve to show me his teeth. We sit like that for a while and I finally get disgusted and turn around and leave. Chia

  22. What a lovely couple of pals you have there. If they stay long enough I’m sure the Oliver will get round to using the dog flap. Thankfully you have the best rooms in the house for your bedtimes.

  28. Look at those terrific new friends. Do y’all realize how lucky you are? With your Mommy being a “groomer lady” you get to meet-and-greet all kinds of new puppers all the time, have guests come to visit, sometimes even others stay with you … wow, it’s like an always party at your place!
