Where’s the Lion King on Thankful Thursday

The New Monarch by Xena

“Lion King! Lion King! Where can he be?”
The meerkats cried ‘neath their lookout tree.
“We’ve searched through the bushes, the grass and the sand—
We need a great ruler to govern our land!”

They shouted again, “Oh, King, hear our call!”
Then something came trotting, quite proud and quite small.
With leggings and eyebrows and beard flowing free,
She marched through the brush like pure royalty.

The meerkats went silent. “Well… who might YOU be?”. 
She lifted her chin. “You may call me Queen Xe.
“You wanted a monarch? Your searching is through.
I’m clever, I’m fearless—and beautiful, too!”

They looked at each other. “A schnauzer? Our queen?”
“The finest,” said Xena, “that you’ve ever seen.”
Then one meerkat whispered, “The Lion King’s late…”
Queen Xena just smiled. “His loss. Don’t I look great!”

Chia: Queen Xe?? BOLBOLBOLBOL!!!!!! I’m thankful my sis has a great sense of humor.
Xena: Please don’t forget to add that I am also a better poet than you.

Chia: BOL! I’m also thankful that my Mom and my sisters are all home with me all day now that they’ve all retired. I love when we’re all together…almost as much as I love the car rides I get to go on now.
Xena: Where do you go?
Chia: Oh, nowhere much. I just love to watch out the window at everything as we go along. I have a great imagination, you know!

Lucy: I’m thankful that I’ve finally adjusted to not going to work on Wednesdays. I’m going for walks every morning with my sisters and my Mom. And I lay with my head up against my Mom when she sits on the couch typing or watching TV or reading. Although, she’s usually running around the house doin’ stuff.

Mom Amy: I’m very thankful to be home with you, too, Lucy, as well as both your sisters. Now, if the “feel like” temp in the afternoons would just get below 90F/32C…or even below 100F/38C!

Lucy, Xena and Chia: We don’t want to go without saying thank you to all our loyal readers, too. We love you!

    Charlee: “No, you sang it instead! And that was worse!”

  21. BRAVO Xena! That is a truly epic poem and there’s no doubt in our minds that you would make a PERFECT Queen of the troupe! You do look wonderful in your crown. Just don’t let it fall off your little head because one of the others will snatch it up and claim it!

  22. That was an outstanding job with today’s poem. Well done, Xena. So glad all you guys are enjoying retirement. Hopefully with the Dog Days of summer getting toward the end of their reign, the temps will get milder. 🤞🏼 We are so over this summer heat too.
