Coming to you today on the Health Beat!

Lucy, Ace Reporter here with breaking news! PRESCRIPTION DIETS EVADE REGULATIONS: … Hill’s Pet Nutrition made one of the most profitable marketing moves in pet food history: they filed a trademark application for the term“Prescription Diet.”Previous to this, nobody thought about how lucrative selling the same crummy ingredients could be if they simply required a prescription from vets. It was an ingenuous way to sell virtually the same foods found in the grocery store aisle with a grossly inflated price tag….
Mom has known that Hills regular and Prescription Diet formulas were no better than grocery store dog foods for years…ever since she worked at a vet’s and read the ingredients. It went further downhill when Purina bought the brand, with the first ingredient starting with corn or another grain instead of meat. It is reported that a gently cooked complete diet with all natural ingredients helps prevent cancer as well as a plethora of other diseases in dogs and cats. In the meantime…you can read all about it here from a post by Dogs Naturally.

Thanks for sharing the link. I had heard about the lawsuit but hadn’t had time to read the article. Hill’s seems like so many devious corporations. Profits at all costs, no matter how it affects the consumer of its crap product. The fact that vets are in cahoots especially cheeses me off. Grrr.

I did not realize that. I had put my faith in the prescription plans being better.

Hmmm. You might want to check out fourleafrover.com. They have powdered supplements that heals the gut. Xena and Riley are both on it (the Yeast Guard Plus) and all their redness and itching stopped after about a month or less of being on it. One of the three powders in it is for gut health. They have other products , too, made specifically for that. It’s been a game changer around here, and it’s all natural.

That’s sure not good. Is that cooked or raw meat? (And Xena and Riley tested allergic to chicken, too.)

We get Ollie’s brand gently cooked packets of food a lot now cause Mom’s been too lazy, er, busy to always make us our balanced raw food. (But it’s really yummy and good for us, too!) XOXOX Chia and Xena and Lucy and Riley

That was an excellent report Lucy and you are so right. Our Seal is on an Rx Royal Canin gastro food, sadly it’s the only thing that stopped a chronic gut problem.

One of my cats was on prescription Hills and Royal Canin. Both were insanely expensive and he refused to eat it because it obviously didn’t have any tasty smell to it. And cats are all about smell when it comes to eating. I ended up giving him freeze dried chicken and he scarfed it down and healed quickly. Since then I have avoided prescription foods.

Beau’s tummy gets upset and squeals loudly when he eats meat. especially chicken. if we give him meat he gets me up in the middle of the night to eat grass.. This is crazy, we have 3 times uses the canned RX food from the vet that is so expensive on 2 of our dogs. Baby nearly died from diarrhea, and was on the food for a week. this is as scary as our people food.

Lucy! Excellent report – thanks for telling us things we really need to know about our foodables – we should be getting REAL healthy food and not junk food. It’s bad enough that our humans like junk food but we animals – well – let’s face it – we totally deserve the BEST of the BEST right? Right?

I agree, and the script diet the Minko was supposed to have was garbage as far as I could tell…what cat needs corn anyways? Same for dogs…
Our dudes get freeze dried raw food…cause well, I am too lazy to make their food, LOL!
Another good report, Lucy!
