Riley – A Memorial

Xena: I wanted to help post some pictures of the brother we were all thankful to have.

Yes, were. Riley crossed the Rainbow Bridge the day before Thanksgiving. It’s been a sad few days, and we really hate to see our brother Andrew so sad. But, as it had to be, it was him who finally made the decision, and we could all see that Riley was ready. Poor Ri-boy was in a lot of pain with no hope of it getting better, so Andrew did the loving thing.

Miss Ingrid, who has Benji and Dalton, made us this beautiful momento picture.

Here are pictures Mommy has taken of Riley throughout the years. She says to please be sure to read the captions in the pictures.

Riley’s first day with us. He was 6 months old.

Riley knew he wasn’t allowed to do anything bad to Lexi, and he resented her enforcing her dominant nature. But she did like to take a “Golden Shower” when they walked together.
“This is the piece I want, Dad.” In September of 2016 Riley joined his blogging friends in eating pizza in memory of Lexi.
“Lucy, will you be my Valentine?” In 2017 Lucy joined the pack, and she and Riley became fast friends.

Riley spent time up at Rock City during Rocktoberfest with His Person Andrew.
During the year that our schnauzer nephew Piper lived here, Riley became very fond of him and cuddled him.

Riley deadied every stuffie in the house until he got Rainey Reindeer. He loved Rainey and often slept with him.
Riley and Xena were never friends. He resented another schnauzer coming into the household, and she could feel it.
One day Xena “occupied” Riley’s bed and held his Rainey “hostage”.
He responded by a complete “takeover of her bed.”
Chia brought new life into the house. Riley never minded her forceful ways of playing with him.
Riley let Chia think she was winning tug o’ war (for a short time.)
Chia tentatively slid down from the top of the couch onto Riley’s back, arranged her blanket, and fell asleep. He didn’t mind.
Riley’s next stuffie was Racko, and he loved it like he did Rainey.
He still liked his treats, even when he had to “hunt” for them in the puzzles.
A more challenging puzzle.
What Riley loved most in this world, above all things, his entire life, was children. And Andrew, his heart person.

You will leave a big hole in our hearts and our home, sweet Riley. We love you, now and forever.

    Java Bean: “We know Riley is having a great time over the Rainbow Bridge playing with all the dogs who were waiting for him there, and pigging out at Tucker’s Everlasting Rainbow Bridge buffet! And we send lots of tail wags your way for those he had to leave behind.”
    Chaplin: “And we cats send lots of purrs!”

  4. I have just found out about Riley and I am so sorry to hear this sad news. I know from your post that Riley was really loved and his loss must cut deep. You were so lucky to have such a wonderful bo as part of your family.

  12. Riley lived a perfect dog’s life, he was loved, and he loved, and that’s as good as it gets. Nothing loves like a dog. When you lose one it is unbearable. Thinking of you in this worst of times

  17. It breaks my heart ‘liking’ this post. I’m so sad but grateful that Riley is no longer in pain. He was quite the sweet boy as evidenced by all these beautiful photos over the years. And he clearly adored his person and will wait for him to join him when the time comes. Sending sincere thoughts of comfort to all who knew this special boy. ❤️‍🩹

  29. I am so sad you’ve lost a brother and good friend but oh my goodness what a wonderful life Riley had with you all. He looks happy, had good company, toys and snuggles and hugs and walks and fun and THAT is the gift we give them – even as they gift us with their trust, love, and licks! Angel Riley will forever be there with Andrew and all of you…….I believe that with all my heart. Holidays can be rough when you’ve lose a family member – we miss Angel Sammy especially then because he LOVED lying under the Christmas tree…….now Teddy occupies that spot – almost as if Angel Sammy insisted he take it over! Sending you all holiday hugs……………………
