Gracie came to visit with us again for 10 days. It was really different this time. She was really different. She didn’t take her usual 24 hours to get used to being here around the three of us. She started hanging out with us right away.
Mommy took her to work the first full day she was here.

Back at our home, Gracie started being assertive about what she wanted. She followed Mommy around until Mommy realized that Gracie either needed to go out or wanted to be fed. Finally, she decided she would eat when we were given our food. She never used to finish her food. But this time she licked her bowl clean both morning and night. It might be because her dad gave Mommy money and said, “Just feed her what you feed your dogs.” Guess she liked it!
One night our folks decided they needed a break from all four of us in the bed (I don’t understand why), so they shut us all out of the bedroom. Gracie barked and barked from her kennel. After being reprimanded for it, she got quiet…for about five minutes. Then she started barking again. That time Mommy carried her and her kennel into Daddy’s office at the other end of the hallway and shut the door. She finally settled down and went to sleep. That was the last night Mommy and Daddy tried that.

You don’t see me here on the bed because I was taking the picture.
Chia: Xena, don’t fib. You thought the bed looked pretty full, so you slept in your red bed on the floor until the middle of the night. That’s when I heard you wake up Mommy to pick you up and put you in the big bed with everyone.
Xena: Moving on…
Early one evening we got a storm. Gracie’s never been afraid of storms. But me and Lucy are! Mommy was in the bathroom, so Lucy went into the walk-in closet and laid down. I shook until Mommy sat down on the floor and held me. Gracie ran and got in what used to be a shower but is now a storage area.

She was shaking, too. Yep, she really became one of the pack. I wonder what she’ll do now that she’s going home. I wonder if her pawrents will notice anything different, or if she’ll morph back into the original, only-dog Gracie.
After being here for 13 days her pawrents came and got her. Gracie was so happy she did big zoomies through our front yard. We’ve never seen her do zoomies before either. It was good they came back ’cause I had begun to think she was just going to live here. What’s one more dog, right? *whispering* I was/am still Mommy’s favorite.
Chia: I heard that!

*sigh* I don’t do FB or other media like that. Guess that’s how I lost track of Cupcake. I will have to hop on and say hi to the new addition.

That was a long time for Gracie to be with you, but it seems it was a good time for her and the three of you! Four dogs on the bed?? OMD!!

Java Bean: “Ayyy, would also complain like that if I got kicked out of Mama and Dada’s bed, Gracie! Fortunately I think Dada would get kicked out before I would.”
Lulu: “I’m glad you were able to teach Gracie to be prudently concerned about storms! You never know what they’re going to do!”

Ugh. You haven’t heard… Delilah is my new dog. After 18+ sparkling years, Cupcake crossed the bridge last month. She sent me Delilah to soak up all the love leftover after she left.

I am so happy to hear Gracie adjusted and that you all took such good care of her. Its hard to be left with others and missing your family. Gracie would fit right in your pack, maybe you do need a 4th dog..

I’m sure Gracie enjoyed her stay with you but you know what they say – – – “there’s no place like home” and that goes for HER and YOU too!
