This group of pictures popped up in the “Your Memories from this Day” from One-Drive.
It includes Gracie (the shih tzu), which is so appropo, since she is here with us again. There is Xena checking out her new stuffie, Shania. And Piper and Milo – my close friend Jen’s schnauzers, who now live on at the rainbow bridge. And finally is our Angel Riley. What a wonderful dog he was. He would be so happy living here right now, next door to 5 kids he would love. Hope you enjoy.
Many thanks to Comedy Plus for hosting Happy Tuesday!
Gracie: Hi *wags*. I got abandoned with Miss Amy and Mr. Jeff again. My folks went to Puerto Rico for my Dad’s business and for my Mom to visit with her sisters and cousins. I could have visited too, but here I am with a schnauzer who starts out my visit with, “Grrr, I’m in charge here, got it?” I nodded my head yes and we’re all good now. I do like my Aunt Amy and Uncle Jeff. I don’t think they’re actually related, but it makes me feel better to pretend they are. And Xena said I could do the Awww Monday today on her blog. Thanks, Xena!
Anyhow, right after my folks abandoned me – like the same day – Aunt Amy and Uncle Jeff abandoned me too! The neighbor girl, Clare, came and took care of us. Lucy and Xena and Chia went crazy over her, so I figured she must be OK. Her little sister, Lucia, carried me all around with her and I ended up in her house. Then Lucia took me for a walk and I pulled too hard and she lost the leash. I stood still until she was able to pick it up. I didn’t want her to get into any trouble. All her little girl friends held me and pet me, too. I enjoy kids, so I actually had a great weekend while my original sitters were away at some crazy Oktoberfest.
Now they’re back and I miss my kids. Oh wait! Here comes Miss Clare and I see my leash. Gotta go!! (Thanks Xena for letting me do your blog today.)
Gracie came to visit with us again for 10 days. It was really different this time. She was really different. She didn’t take her usual 24 hours to get used to being here around the three of us. She started hanging out with us right away.
Mommy took her to work the first full day she was here.
I finished my work. Do I get a treat?
Back at our home, Gracie started being assertive about what she wanted. She followed Mommy around until Mommy realized that Gracie either needed to go out or wanted to be fed. Finally, she decided she would eat when we were given our food. She never used to finish her food. But this time she licked her bowl clean both morning and night. It might be because her dad gave Mommy money and said, “Just feed her what you feed your dogs.” Guess she liked it!
One night our folks decided they needed a break from all four of us in the bed (I don’t understand why), so they shut us all out of the bedroom. Gracie barked and barked from her kennel. After being reprimanded for it, she got quiet…for about five minutes. Then she started barking again. That time Mommy carried her and her kennel into Daddy’s office at the other end of the hallway and shut the door. She finally settled down and went to sleep. That was the last night Mommy and Daddy tried that.
You don’t see me here on the bed because I was taking the picture.
Chia: Xena, don’t fib. You thought the bed looked pretty full, so you slept in your red bed on the floor until the middle of the night. That’s when I heard you wake up Mommy to pick you up and put you in the big bed with everyone.
Xena: Moving on… Early one evening we got a storm. Gracie’s never been afraid of storms. But me and Lucy are! Mommy was in the bathroom, so Lucy went into the walk-in closet and laid down. I shook until Mommy sat down on the floor and held me. Gracie ran and got in what used to be a shower but is now a storage area.
She was shaking, too. Yep, she really became one of the pack. I wonder what she’ll do now that she’s going home. I wonder if her pawrents will notice anything different, or if she’ll morph back into the original, only-dog Gracie.
After being here for 13 days her pawrents came and got her. Gracie was so happy she did big zoomies through our front yard. We’ve never seen her do zoomies before either. It was good they came back ’cause I had begun to think she was just going to live here. What’s one more dog, right? *whispering* I was/am still Mommy’s favorite. Chia: I heard that!

Hi Friends! First, a big thank you to Angel Brian for hosting Thankful Thursday as well as Angel Sammy for the fun pictures every week. It’s my turn again since tomorrow is my birthday. I’m going to be seven whole years old! Someone told me that my birthday is on the summer equinox, also called the first day of summer. I hate to tell you this, someone, but today is the first day of summer! Happy summer, everyone!! And boy oh boy, if summer’s as hot as our spring has been I’ll be spending most of my time inside in the air conditioning. I get overheated real fast. Enough about the weather… here’s my poem.
A Tale of a Tailby Xena Schnauzer Warrior Princess
I wonder what everyone’s giggling about. I’m a person with considerable clout! Oh no! Tee Pee hanging out like a tail… This can’t be known on my campaign trail. I’ll make something up, I’ll claim it’s AI. I’ll win the election with that big fat lie!
Lucy: You know it’s never good to lie, Xena. Xena: I know Lucy, but sometimes we all – even you – lie just a little when Mommy comes home and asks us if we had our supper after Daddy’s already fed us. We all start yelling, “I want to eat! I want to eat!” Maybe we should be thankful that Mommy never lets us lie. Lucy: Uh, in this case, that thankful would probably be a lie.
Chia: Well, I’m thankful that Gracie came to stay with us last weekend and, after the first day here, my enthusiasm stopped scaring her and she hung out with us.
Gracie, previously good friends with Lexi
And we’re all thankful that Riley’s still hangin’ in there and HP Andrew’s still hangin’ here with him!
Bye bye for now! Xena, soon to be birthday girl. (I heard that I’m getting to go see my peeps brother Adam tomorrow!)
Gracie was one of Angel Lexi’s only dog friends. She’s a very smart little shih tzu, and fun to be around. She came and stayed with our folks for a couple of weeks to try to help them right after Lexi crossed the bridge. She came back regularly as her folks went out of town to visit, and often made trips with our folks. This is the 3rd time in the last two or three months that Gracie’s spent a week with us. We all like Gracie and we think she likes us too.
Me and Gracie, we went for a special walk today around the neighborhood, just us two with Mommy. And with our neighbor Miss Pam. She walked with us too. And with our shadows. **humming “Me and My Shadow”**
Happy Tuesday! From Xena and Miss Sandee at Comedy Plus, who is hosting Happy Tuesday Blog Hop!
Xena: Our friend Gracie came back to stay with us while her folks took a vacation in Puerto Rico, where they’re visiting their family and friends and eating all the delicious foods there that they have missed. Gracy used to come visit when Angel Lexi was here, and they got along good. After Angel Lexi became an angel, Gracie stayed here at the house with Mommy and Daddy so they weren’t so lonely here with no dog. She even went to In Dee Anna with them over Christmas and even got to sit on Santa’s lap while her folks went to Germany . She also was Mommy’s work-dog for the couple of weeks she was here, and has been to Rock City with my folks.
Fast forward a whole bunch of years… It was kind of a slow start to us all getting used to each other. Gracie was here a month or so ago, and we all got along then. This time, after a couple of days, Gracy was one of the pack. She’s the same size as me and Chia, and she won’t back down to us or to Riley, either. She just stands there and stares right back at us. You’ve got to respect that.
Chia: At first I tried to intimidate Gracie, so that, you know, she recognized me as being in charge. Like Xena said, it didn’t work. Early Saturday morning Mom took me and Gracy for a walk in the neighborhood.
We walked together and read pee mail and explored a little bit. She can walk almost as fast as me! Now we kinda hang out, following the folks through the house, and even sleep together in the big bed! I like this chick!
Xena: After their walk I watched Mom groom Gracy. We had a big day Saturday, what with the grooming and our brother Adam here all weekend for his birthday, and our other Brother Andrew coming over and me and Chia playing ball and stuff.
Gracie wanted me to do something with her, but I was worn out and settled into my kennel for a pre-bedtime nap.
We’re going to miss Gracie when her family comes for her this Wednesday. Last night we voted and…
Lucy: Xena we didn’t vo…
Xena: Everyone but Lucy voted and we agreed that Gracie can come back and stay with us anytime she wants.
Thanks to Miss Sandee at Comedy Plus for hosting Awww Monday!
Today is Thanksgiving Day in the U.S. Xena and I have been thinking about what we are thankful for, so here goes.
First we want to say how thankful we are for Blogville and all the friends and support we have gotten. You are happy when we are and sad when we are. When Angel Lexi went over the bridge, Mom could not have made it without all of you. And oh, yes, although it is a very fun virtual reality to live in, we know the peeps and pups who make it up are real. We love you!
In our little corner of Blogville and the world, we are thankful for the family dogs who came before us and had the hard job of training Mom. On birthdays, they taught her to say, “Let them eat cake.”This is from Sammy’s birthday on the fourth of July. Every year, Mom used to keep 10 dogs for that whole week, so they all helped Sammy celebrate his birthday. Freda was Mom’s first schnauzer.
Lexi: This picture is from my 10-year-old birthday party. I had a Healthy Choice meal with my Mom and Dad and then my very own cake shaped like a dog. I know, kinda’ weird, but Mom meant well. Can you see the happy all over my face?
But it took Lexi to teach Mom to say, “Let them eat McDonalds.”
I love birthdays and I love Micky D’s!! This is all for me!
We are thankful for our friends who we know in the furs. Gracie, who never comes to see us anymore.
My (Lucy’s) bestie, Ella.
The big lunk, Achilles. (We love you Achilles.)
And our newest buddy, Chaz.
And we are thankful for the memories of our friends who are now waiting at the Rainbow Bridge.
And our blogger buddies who have gone on, too.
We are so very thankful for all of our blog buddies still with us, too. We would love to meet you all in the furs, like Mommy did with Angel Lexi’s boyfriend, Noodle.
We are both especially thankful for really yummy food.
beef, kale and sweet potato
We are thankful for our Mom and Dad, who love us and give us a good home.
And I am thankful for you, Xena. I love you!I love you, too, Luce the Deu…I mean Lucy. XOX
And, in the spirit of this holiday, we are both thankful to be red-blooded American dogs, born in the U.S.A. What was it I heard the other day? Oh yes, American by birth, Southern by grace, BOL!
We hope everyone has as much to be thankful for as we do! Happy Thanksgiving to all our furiends. Be sure to go to the the blog hop today by clicking on the picture.
Love, licks, and wags, the Southern girls: Lucy and Xena Schnauzer Warrior Princess
Piper is head over paws about Shelby, and we think Shelby may feel the same way. However, not wanting to take any chances of someone else sweeping in, Piper screws up his courage and asks…

In other news, Gracie went to Florida to meet up with Noodle for the big party tomorrow. Since Lexi loved them both, they decided to honor her by going to the Valentine’s Day Bash together as friends. They thought it would be a good idea to get to know each other first…
Listen, Gracie. I think Mom’s calling us for dinner.
You kids have fun and don’t do anything Lexi wouldn’t have. (Oh boy, I think I just opened it up for too much fun…)
Gracie here again. Today was the day that the peeps get rid of their kids by giving them to the church for a while. I love this kind of day. I am free to love on the little people, and made 87 trips downstairs to do just that. Their giggles make me wiggle and their sticky, tasty fingers and faces are fun to lick.
It is also the day peeps come in to get pieces of paper to trade for food. They all seem to need a dog to pet, so I was there to help with that, too. Lexi had told me this was her most important job as the Church Dog, so I take it very seriously. The pastor’s daughter came after school and we played and played. We both finally got worn out and waited on the couch in the room that has lots of books until it was time for her to leave.
When we finally got home after 87 hours of working, I jumped from the car and ran to the house, already thinking about seeing Mr. Jeff and eating my supper. When Ms. Amy opened the door, there stood another gimongous dog. His name is Riley. I backed up and refused to go in until Ms. Amy picked me up. He could still tickle my toes, so I was relieved when we went upstairs and shut Riley downstairs with Mr. Jeff.
I found out Riley was Lexi’s brother and used to live here, too. You probably already know Riley, but for anyone just tuning in, this is a picture of him taken a few years ago. He is even bigger than Lucy. Speaking of Lucy, she is still wearing the Cone of Destruction and trapping me with it like a Bullie Dozer. I know Lexi never had any problem dealing with all these big dogs in her house, but she forgot to teach me that lesson.
Hi, this is Gracie. I have been staying with Mr. Jeff and Ms. Amy for almost a week now. Today, I was sitting in one of my favorite places when Ms. Amy said something to grab my attention away from what was happening outside.
Gracie, do you want to go to work?
I was a bit disappointed that there weren’t many people there, and definitely no little people today. As a consolation, Ms. Amy took me outside during her lunch time. The sun was shining and the temperature was perfect. We took a nice walk all around the church and I got to read tons of pee mail. Some of it was old news, but it was still interesting.
Before we went back inside to do more work, I saw the message my bestie, Angel Lexi, had left for me. In case you didn’t know, this is the same sign where she was honored after she made her trip to the rainbow bridge. I thought maybe she was nearby. I miss you, Lexi, and I am going to let my light shine.
Hi, this is Gracie. Over the last 2 weeks I have gone to work and been the church dog, went to Indiana where I met Santa and made at least 87 new friends, and slept in the peeps bed every night (I’m not allowed to do that at home.) I have had a great time, but I still miss my Mom and Dad and told Santa that for Christmas, all I wanted was them to come back. Guess what? They are coming to get me today! When Ms. Amy said I had to get ready. I sure didn’t think she meant this!
Are we done yet?
Wait, are those treats?
No, I must be strong.
I’m dry now and the bag is still here.
*gasp* It opened!
I’m dry now and the bag is still here. *gasp* It opened!
Thank you Ms. Amy. Can I have another one?
I am all ready to go home now and just wanted to tell my new friends goodbye for now. Have a very happy New Year.
Woof! This is Gracie. I got to sit on Santa’s lap and whisper in his ear exactly what I want for Christmas. No lists that first go through elf hands for this pup! Santa said no problem, but that I would have to wait until the end of next week for my present. That’s ok, I can wait. Oh, and I have a personal message straight from Santa to pass on to you:
Yes, pups and kitties, there really is a Santa Paws!
Woof! It’s me, Gracie. I am staying with Ms. Amy and Mr. Jeff over Christmas while my Mom and Dad go on vacation without me. Come to think of it, they always go on vacation without me. It has something to do with flying, which I haven’t learned to do yet.
I still have to travel by car.
Speaking of flying, that reminds me of wings which reminds me of Angel Lexi, who earned her wings almost four months ago. Ms. Amy left my food dish at work today, so I get to honor Lexi by eating my supper out of her green food dish tonight.
Speaking of work, I have earned the title Church Dog of the Week. Wouldn’t Lexi be proud? I went to work with Ms. Amy yesterday and was minding my own business when this appeared in the doorway to our office:
Jiminy Cricket! This beast was HUGE! He looked like he could have swallowed me in one big chomp. I was mightily afraid for awhile, but then got a bit curious why this beastie was sporting the GQ look. Maybe he wasn’t a bad sort after all. So I thought, OK, I can try to share church space with him, even if I didn’t want to be BFF’s, if you know what I mean. After a while, all that tension of trying to not let the beastie be my bestie wore me out.
Dreaming I’m in a land far, far away.
Meantime…
Yep, Odin was still there when I woke up. Eventually he went in the office with his Momma and left me alone so I could help Ms. Amy get her work done.
When I went to work again today I got the best reward! There were 87 gazillion little peoples downstairs and they all wanted to pet me and kiss me. I ran between them and wiggled and kissed them back for what seemed like hours, until I got totally worn out. Lots of big people came in to see me today too, and I greeted everyone with tail wags and wiggles and they all loved me, too. I think I saw more people today than I have all year long. Good thing my bed is there so I can rest. Lexi never told me what hard work it is to be the church dog. Finally, it was time to go home.
I’m ready Ms. Amy. Are you coming?
I’ll say goodnight for now. I need to get my rest so I can get up again tomorrow and do it all again.
