Grooming with Mom on Aww Monday: Oreo and Sunshine

Lucy, Ace Reporter here on the Groom Beat today.

First up is Oreo, the eight-year-old brother of Cooper, who Mom groomed a few weeks ago. Y’all might remember Coop, the darling pomeranian who started out on the groom table with about 87 pounds of hair and ended up – per his Mom’s request – like this:

Cooper

Oreo is half pom and half chihuahua. Once again, Groomer Mom was neglectful in getting a “before” picture, but he looked so much like furry Cooper that she thought that was who his Mom had in her arms.

When Groomer Mom was trying to clean out Oreo’s ears, he grabbed her hand with his teeth and said, “I don’t like that!” Just to be safe, Groomer Mom slapped a muzzle on his face and finished his ears and nails. He figured out she wasn’t going to listen to him and there wasn’t anything he could do about it, so he sat still and let her do her thing. He ended up being a really nice – if kind of scared – pup, giving Mom hugs and kisses while she told him what a good boy he is. Here is the finished product, er, dog.

Oreo

Our second featured groom today is a precious 13-year-old who has been here once before. Groomer Mom neglected to even record the previous visit, although she remembers it well. Sunshine’s Mom is a new client who sees our grooming sign every time she drives through the neighborhood to her daughter’s house. She called Groomer Mom and explained she has a terrior mix who needed a bath and a few areas – such as face, paws and behind – trimmed. Mom says here’s a perfect example of ass-uming. She assumed this pup – Sunshine – had short hair and would take less than an hour. Boy, was she wrong. Here is Sunshine before her groom.

Sunshine is a Cairne terrier and beagle mix. She has lots and lots of thick undercoat (that’s a grooming term) that Mom spent at least a half hour just brushing. While under the dryer (another grooming phrase) Sunshine went wee-wee in the kennel and had to have a second bath. At this point Groomer Mom texted her next client and pushed the appointment back by a half hour. That was Sunshine’s first time here

This time Mom kept her on the table after her bath and gave her a blow-out (I think this is a hair-dresser’s term). Here is Sunshine after her trim, bath and blow-out.

Doesn’t she look happier? She even said, “Come closer and let me give you more kisses, Miss Amy.”

We join Comedy Plus with much thanks for hosting Awww Mondays.

This is Lucy, Ace Reporter, signing off and wishing everyone a happy weekend.

Grooming with Mom: Cassie

Today’s headline: Cassie gets her first groom!

Hello there, friends. I am Lucy, Ace Reporter, on the Groom Beat. Today I am here to tell you about our friend Anne’s new pup. You might remember her schnauzer, Maddie who has been here to be groomed.

Maddie’s Mom has taken over her grooming, and does a good job, too. We heard Maddie is almost white now!

Back in the spring, Maddie got a new little sister. Cassie is a cavapoo, and a delightful girl. Mom kept waiting and hoping Anne would bring Cassie soon for her first groom, as Mom was excited about meeting the new puppy. Cassie is nine months old now, and quite grown, but still a pup. Here she is prior to grooming.

The swirl of hair on top of her head absolutely had to stay. The Groomer did a “scissor cut” and, per client’s instructions, only cut a little off the subject’s ears and beard. Umm, I mean Mom gave her a pretty puppy groom with a warm, relaxing bath, and here she is afterwards.

Although Miss Anne will now take over Cassie’s grooming needs, they – and Maddie – are welcome back any time!

Lucy, signing off the Groom Beat, with wags and kisses.

Grooming with Mom: Pebbles and Meeka

Hello friends. Lucy Ace Reporter back with you again on the Groom Beat

Next up is a pair of shih tzus. Their dad is brothers with one of Mom’s other clients, who referred them to her.
Mom began with Pebbles, who is almost nine years old and the dominant one in the family. Pebbles tried to bite her while she was removing the hair from her ears. Mom stopped working long enough to have a “come to Jesus” meeting with her. Pebbles said she understood, and, just to be sure, Dad held her while Mom cut her nails. Pebbles didn’t give her any more trouble after that. Well, OK, she gave Mom lots of trouble, but didn’t try to bite her.

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is pebbles-clark.jpg
I don’t want to stand up!

Pebble’s Mom wanted her shaved and her face trimmed short. Mom remembered to take the “before” picture shortly after she started shaving Pebbles. She refused to stand up or cooperate in any way. She actually jumped out of the sink onto the table once during her bath. *sigh* Anyhoo, she made it through the groom alive even if she did poop on the table and in the sink.

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is pebbles-giving-stink-eye.jpg
I may not be allowed to bite you, but how’s this for a stink eye.
This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is pebbles-clark-after-groom.jpg
Did you say my peep sisters are coming to get me?

Next up was Stink-Eye’s submissive sister, Meeka. Meeka pooped all over the floor while she was waiting her turn. *If I talk funny now ith becawwz I’m holding my nothe.

I heard what you said to my sister. Please don’t send me to Jesus.

Nine-year-old Meeka is just the opposite of Stink-Eye, er, Pebbles. She is what Mom calls passive-aggressive in the groom world. She didn’t want her front paws touched, so she kept laying her head on them while Mom was trying to shave them. She kept tucking herself into a ball until Mom finally used the loop thingy – like you saw around Stink Eye – to keep her standing.

She didn’t like her bath either, but Mom managed to keep her in the tub. Dried, groomed and finished! Pee Ess, when she lifts her ears, her hair stands up like that. She really doesn’t have horns, BOL.

Are we going home now?

Mom asked me to quote her here. I think this is how to do it:
A reliable source just informed me that both these dogs were covered underneath and in the back area with dried feces. My sourse is pretty sure that Pebbles has a bacterial infection on the insides of her back legs and her abdomen from the dried feces against their skin. She alerted their sisters – who picked them up – to this. She also advised them not to wait so long to get them groomed, suggesting every six to eight weeks.

This is Lucy, Ace Reporter, signing off with more wags and wiggles.

Grooming with Mom: Cooper

Hello friends. Lucy Ace Reporter back with you on the Groom Beat.

Today let’s take a look at three new grooms, all on the same day.

The first one I’m reporting on is a breed called a Pomeranian. I’ve never seen one before. They’re little and have lots of hair. Mom forgot to take a “before” picture, so I helped her find one from Mr. Google that looks a lot like Cooper. Even the markings are the same!

Cooper was adopted when he was almost 2 years old, and his loving mom doesn’t know anything about his past. He’s six now, and a very timid little fellow. We don’t know why, but his mom asked to have all his hair shaved off. Mom the Groomer used a little longer blade, and had a lot of difficulty getting it to go through his thick undercoat. She said that’s the kind of undercoat collies have. She managed to shaved him all over the best she could and gave him a bath. When he was dry, she shaved him all over again. Here’s the results:

I’m Cooper, and I want my Mom. Er, I mean, I approve this groom.

Mom was real glad Cooper’s mom saw her grooming sign in the front yard. She liked Cooper so much she told his Mom that she’s in love… and to let her know if she ever needed a dog-sitter. (I think Xena would probably traumatize him.)

*yawn* I just realized it’s past my bedtime. I’ll be back tomorrow with the downlow on a pair of shih tzus.

Love and wiggles, Lucy Ace Reporter

Grooming with Mom on Awww Monday

Hi again friends. Sometimes Mom feels bad that she doesn’t have a puppy picture of me. I assure her that I looked exactly like I do now, just smaller BOL! Here, let me show you what I mean.

Left: How I think I looked as a puppy. Right: me now.

Today, instead of reporting on new grooms, I’m taking my reporter hat off to show you an awww moment. Slider is a pup who has been coming here for a haircut and bath since January of 2014. I’ve shown you pictures of him, but to refresh your memory – or for those of you who weren’t with us then – here’s a pre and post groom look at him.

OK, maybe not much difference, but it makes his Mom happy.

The new thing I wanted to show you is his puppy picture his Mom shared with us today. Can you even believe it’s the same pup?

I hope to be back soon in my Ace Reporter mode to show you more of Mom’s grooms.

Thanks to Comedy Plus for hosting Awww Mondays.

Love and kisses, Lucy

Ella and Achilles on Vacation: Day 2

Achilles: So, Lucy, to continue with telling you about the stuff I have to put up with at home… that pig! After all this time, he hasn’t even learned our language. He goes around grunting at us and using body language that me and Ella can’t understand. I used to try to stay out of Morty’s way, but it gets so tiring.

Lucy: But what does he do? And what do you do, my darling?

Here, let me show you Morty’s latest travesty.

I was sleeping peacefully on the couch when he jumped up, laid down next to me, and threw his back leg right across my nose, in front of my eyes. Aghh! I guess it could have been worse…

Lucy: What did you do, dear? Did you bite him?

Achilles: No, no, no. I might look big and intimidating, but you should know I would never hurt a fly. Well, maybe a fly. But I’m a pacifist, like you. Sometimes I get a bit worked up when I see other boy dogs, but I try to keep it under control. Anyhoo, here’s what I did.

Achilles: Enough about me. What have you been doing, beautiful?

Lucy: Hmmm. Mom’s been extra busy grooming during this COVID thingy. I’ve been working tirelessly helping her.

Sometimes I catch the hair so she doesn’t have to sweep it up. And when the pup on the table is nervous, sometime this makes them laugh!

We’ve been getting quite a few new and “haven’t been here for a long time” dogs in to be groomed. The last one was a tiny Yorkie puppy. Dog, was he a handful. Literally.

Finally, Mom agreed to let him lay in her lap while she worked on him.

Mom must have taken her patience pill that day. She said that Chief is only about three months old, and this is his first groom. First grooms are hard on everyone, so she tries to make sure the pup doesn’t get scared.

Achilles: How did it end? Did Chief survive? I’ve never been groomed, or even watched a groom.

Lucy: Like you showed me pictures to explain things, I’ll do the same for you. Here’s how it all ended.

Achilles: What happened to the table in the “after?” Did Chief get so light from losing all that hair that he floated?

Lucy: BOL! Mom just played with the picture so that Chief was the sole focus, BOL!
Give me another kiss and then let’s go see what Ella’s doing and if my Mom’s fixing us anything for lunch.

To be continued…

Grooming with Mom: Sandy

Hello friends. Lucy Ace Reporter back with you on the Groom Beat

Today I am featuring a little shih tzu mix named Sandy. She was here once before, back in February. She’s barely a year old, and a wiggly pup. Here is Sandy “before.”

Her Mom tried to stay, and had to keep holding Sandy so Groomer Mom could work on her. But even then, it just wasn’t happening, as they say. Groomer Mom finally told Sandy’s Mom she would have to leave, that it was impossible to groom her like that. And guess what happened the minute her Mom walked out the door. Yep. She settled down and was finished in no time.

At first, her Mom just wanted her bangs trimmed and her nails cut. Then Groomer Mom asked if she wanted Sandy’s ears trimmed, and she did. Then Groomer Mom asked if it was OK to trim her face, and it was. Then Sandy’s Mom said just go ahead and groom her like you did before. So Sandy got a bath and a scissor cut all over. She wasn’t quite done when this picture was taken.

Groomer Mom decided to take more hair off her head after she saw this picture, BOL. But by then Sandy’s Mom was back in the room and it was too hard to try to get another picture. So you can use your imagination.

Sandy Update: I forgot to hit “Send” or “Post” or whatever it is I’m supposed to touch with my paw, so it’s now 3 weeks later. But that’s OK, ’cause I have an update. Sandy’s ears have been in really bad shape with an infection for several months. Mom was the first to notice back in February, and she told Sandy’s Mom, who took her to the dogtor. The dogtor tried a bunch of stuff, and none of it worked. They finally did a catture, or a court order or maybe it was a cult lure, I’m not sure, but they found out she has a resistant strain of a staff infection. So Sandy came back today for a good bath and nail trim since she can’t get her ears wet for a while after she gets her treatment at the dogtor’s a bit later today. Her boy came with her. The mom kept saying what a beautiful dog I am, and so sweet, too! Mom told her I am her zen dog. The groom room got too crowded with us all in there, so the boy had to wait in the hallway just outside the groom room door. I didn’t want him to be scared or lonely, so I kept him company.

I wouldn’t mind adding this to my job description.

Lucy Ace Reporter signing off with wiggles and tail wags and lots of pets from a little boy.

Grooming with Mom: Daisy

Lucy, Ace Reporter here, with another episode of Grooming with Mom. Today I am featuring Daisy, a furry mixed breed that we think has some kind of herding dog in…

Xena: The first person to correctly identify her breed wins a …

Lucy: Xena! Get out of my post! And no one is winning anything! How many times do I have to tell you…

Xena: Phthhh.

Lucy: Folks, I can’t apologize enough for my little sister. She gets something in her head… Anyhoo, Daisy lives with the board president of the synagogue where Mom works. He’s the third member of B’nai Zion to drive a half hour or more to bring his pup for Mom to groom. You’ve already met Aoife and Bailey. Daisy is another really sweet, loving girl. She gave Mom hugs, just like Aoife does! Here is Daisy before her groom.

Help! I can barely see and hear!

Daisy’s hair completely covered her eyes, and her ears were full of hair. I’m so glad I don’t need to have hair pulled out of my ears! Her Dad told Mom to go ahead and just shave her down. Mom almost did what he said. Here’s her after picture.

Daisy was so happy that she kept trying to give Mom more hugs. I think we’ll call this the “Big Headed Daisy” picture.

Here’s another one, still looking like she has a big head, but at least you can see her a bit better.

Her Dad said they only get her groomed every 4 to 6 months. Mom’s going to talk to him about that…

Lucy, Ace Reporter, signing off. Hope y’all are having a ding-doggidy-daisy kind of day.

Grooming with Mom: Chiefly

Lucy, Ace Reporter here to tell you about a new groom who came to us as a result of COVID-19. Our client, Angela – who has the schnauzers Sophie and Dexter – recommended us Mom when her friend asked if she knew anyone who was grooming right now.

This is Master Chief – Chiefly for short – before his groom. Mom forgot to get a picture until after she had started, so that’s why you see hair on the table.

Chiefly is a 5-year-old yorkie-poo. He definitely has the tight, curly, poodle hair. He was pretty stressed, as you can see, with his tongue hanging out.

Mom called me to come help calm him down.

Xena ran in the room first and they growled at each other. Then Chiefly growled at me. I knew it was just because he was scared, so I started sending zen thoughts his way. Mom told him that’s what I was doing, and that he should be a good boy and let me help him. He did, and I did. I helped so much that when Xena came running back in and put her front paws on the table to look at him, they touched noses and called a truce. Good boy, Chiefly!

Chiefly’s Mom, Maryanne, said to shave him from his head to the end of his tail. Mom called her to be sure she got it right, cause who gets pretty ears like that shaved, right? The conversation went sorta like this:

Mom: Hi, everything’s good, I just want to check, do you want his ears shaved.
Maryanne: Yes, shave his ears please.
Mom: You really want his tail shaved?
Maryanne: Yes.
Mom: What about his face?
Maryanne: Shave it.
Mom: Shave the whole face, short, like his body? No mustache? No beard?
Maryanne: Right. I want him to be cool for the summer
Mom: OK, bye.

Chiefly: I look pretty, don’t I?

Yes, Chiefly, you look pretty, or handsome, as the case may be.

Chiefly: Is my Mom coming now? I’m ready to go home.

You can’t see from the pictures, but Mom left a bobble of hair on the end of his tail, almost like a poodle. His Mom and sister loved it, as well as his cool summer cut.

Lucy, Ace Reporter, signing off with another success story.

Grooming with Mom – Benny

Lucy, Ace Reporter here, with another episode of Grooming with Mom. Today I am featuring Benny, a 2-year-old Cockapoo. Mom first groomed Benny when he was three months old.

Mom hated didn’t like how his face looked in this groom, but it matched the picture his Mom asked for him to look like. Kinda crazy, huh?

We didn’t see him again for a couple of years, and today learned that his Mom had gotten married and moved across town. With the Shelter in Place order, it has been a long time since Benny was groomed anywhere. His Mom remembered bringing him here for his first groom, and called, hoping my Mom was open for business.

Benny has grown into a sweet and loving dog (kind of like me, he, he). He also was a very matted dog from missing all those appointments. His Mom expressed her desire to have him groomed like last time, in a scissor cut, but, if that wasn’t possible because of the mats, ok’d a shave-down. Although Mom did her best to work through the mats, his ears were matted like felt, and the only thing to do was to shave them.

After, that, the rest (of his hair) was history. That also gave Mom the liberty to groom his face and head how she thought looked good. Benny’s Mom was pleased. We may have just saved him from a life-time of ridicule by his peers.

We Lost a Friend

Roxie was one special Cairn Terrier girl. She lived with her Mom and Dad within a short walking distance of us, and her Mom brought her here to be groomed about every 3 months. First, though, Roxie would take a dose of something to calm her nerves about getting groomed, especially having her nails cut. I would often sit next to the grooming table and send Zen thoughts her way. Roxie started coming to us way back in 2013, when she was six.

This picture is when she was about 10. She was so happy to be going home, and had already gotten her beard wet from getting a drink of water.

Mom always gave her a scissor cut, which takes longer and left more time for her and Roxie’s Mom to visit. Roxie’s Mom always had lots of good stories to share, and sometimes brought homemade goodies for them to eat. (I never got any.)

Roxie’s almost 12 in this picture.

Sometimes Roxie would be out in the front yard when Mom took me and Xena for a walk past her house. She would always come over, wagging her tail to say hello and wassup? After a few minutes of visiting she would return to her house and we would return to ours.

We could see her going downhill. She lost a lot of weight and just looked old. In this last picture, her Mom had said to just trim everything short so Roxie didn’t have to keep getting her face washed (like Xena does).

We loved Roxie, and are so sad she had to leave us. POTP for her Mom and Dad.

“A house without a dog is not a home.”

Rest in peace, sweet girl, and please give Angel Lexi our love when you get to the other side of the bridge. She’s probably in the “Oz” section.

Lucy and Xena Schnauzer Warrior Princess

Thankful Thursday and Grooming with Mom: Bailey

Hello friends. Lucy, Ace Reporter here today to report on another fantastic groom. It all started at a party…a Super Bowl party to be exact. Mom went to the party thrown by her work-place, and she sat down to eat with some of the people who attend that synagogue. The couple next to her said they were looking for a new groomer for their sweet shih tzu, and mentioned that Aoife’s Mom had told them what a good job Mom does on Aoife. A few weeks later they called Mom for an appointment. Mom didn’t bother with a “before” picture, because Bailey wasn’t in bad shape. He mostly needed his face and paws and certain other areas trimmed. Here he is after his mini-groom and bath.

Bailey is a little over two years old. Mom said he’s one of the best behaved pups she’s ever had the pleasure to groom.

Do y’all remember Rhett?

Rhett

He came to us to be groomed for the first time last September, and has been coming back every six weeks.

And Maggie, whose Mom is a cancer survivor. We know all your prayers and POTP helped!

Maggie

Maggie is coming every six weeks now, too.

And lots of other regulars like Maggie the schnauzer and her sister Dora the explorer shih tzu, who come to see us every three weeks.

Dora (L) and Maggie

As well as two of our yorkie friends, Slider and Peyton, who come every six weeks.

OK, so maybe Peyton (top) isn’t really a yorkie, but that’s what the guy who sold her to them said.

We’re thankful for all the wonderful pups who come to get groomed and loved-on by me and Mom. There’s lots more, and each one is special in his or her own way.

This is Lucy, Ace Reporter, signing off with wags and kisses. I hope you enjoyed this segment of Grooming with Mom.

Grooming with Mom

Hi friends! It’s me, Lucy, back with all the news worth reporting from the Groom Room. Today I want to introduce a new pup by the name of Gryff. But before I do, it’s important for you to get the back story (that’s a reporting term, you know) on how this all happened. First, though, here is Gryff before being groomed.

The day before Gryff came over, the Groomer aka Mom was grooming another little shih tzu, who we will just call “Ann” to protect the innocent. She’s been here a couple of times before, and is a sweet, if squirmy pup, under a year old. When the Groomer was done, she let “Ann’s” Mom know to come get her. Her Mom replied that her husband would pick up “Ann.” Mom packed me and Xena in the car to go to the vet, so we could leave as soon as “Ann” went home. We sat in there for almost an hour waiting, while Mom, er, the Groomer sat in the groom room with “Ann” in her lap, also waiting, for the pick up. Fifty minutes and several phone calls later, the husband showed up with both a stinky attitude and stinky breath. Mom, er, the Groomer figured out right away that he had been watching football and was unhappy about having to come pick up “Ann.”

We missed our vet appointment (I love going to the vet and always want to stay with those fun people) and we had to get out of the car. Mom called Dad and vented. She was really mad. She said if the guy had even said he was sorry, she would have been over it. But no, not even a thanks. Anyhoo, Mom finally asked God to take away the anger and forgive her for her mean thoughts. You won’t believe what happened next! A lady texted her saying “Ann’s” Mom had given her Mom’s number and she wanted to make a grooming appointment for her shih tzu! Mom called her and Gryff came the next day. Here he is after his groom.

Mom felt like God had answered her prayer, and not only forgave her, but sent her a blessing.

This is Lucy, Ace Reporter, signing off.

Christmas Grooms with Lucy

Lucy, Ace Reporter here on the Groom Beat. Today I want to feature a couple of our pups who got groomed just before Christmas.

Let’s start off with Bailey C. Bailey has that fine hair of a Chorkie (Chihuahua/Yorkie Mix).

Bailey wanted to wear his new Christmas sweater, so you can’t see his body. But Mom did a scissor cut because he doesn’t have an undercoat. If she had shaved him, he would have looked like a skinned rat. Now Bailey looks like a pretty, groomed pup waiting for Santa Paws.

The other pup I want to feature today is Maggie. I told you about her Mom having cancer and asked for your prayers and POTP. Bailey’s Mom is celebrating a cancer-free Christmas this year!

We are sure they had a great Christmas and wish all our grooms and all our friends reading this a happy and healthy New Year.

Wags and wiggles from Lucy, Ace Reporter

Grooming with Mom

Hello friends. Lucy, Ace Reporter here today to report on another fantastic groom. This little shih tzu was referred to Mom by his grandma. She told her daughter, “You’d be crazy not to go to my new groomer!”

Are you gonna fix my hair so I can see, Miss Amy?

This is sweet 1 1/2 year old Rhett when he first got on the table. His previous groomer had cut his eye and didn’t tell his mom. They figured it out, though and got him treated in time to save his eye.

He’s still sort of a wiggly puppy, but Mom was very careful and patient with him. When she texted his mom to say he was ready to go, his mom asked if he could stay another hour. They just weren’t used to having him ready so soon, but that’s how Mom works. One dog or family of dogs at a time show up, get groomed, and go home. Anyhoo, Mom said yes, and brought him upstairs to visit with us.

It took a moment for him to get the layout of the house, but Rhett was feeling good and strutting his stuff. Of course, he quickly found the most popular room in the house.

Something smells good up there, Miss Amy.

Xena sniffed his bee hind and he growled, then Rhett sniffed her bee hind and she growled. Then they did the nose touch saying, “Let’s be friends.”

Lucy, Ace Reporter, signing off with wiggles and licks.

Grooming with Mom: Marley

Lucy, Ace Reporter here with another episode of Grooming with Mom. Today we feature Marley, a border collie or Sheltie mix, no one knows for sure.

At home before groom

Marley is a rescue and her Mom thinks she is six or seven years old. Mom thinks she might be just a bit older, but you never tell a lady that. Did you know that Angel Lexi used to bark at anyone who called her old? She preferred “mature.” So, we think Marley is mature. She is also a bit plump, te, he. But she’s also a very nice girl. She was so scared that Mom called Dad on the phone (he was upstairs in his office) and said, “Send Lucy down; Marley needs her zen.” So down I went, and sent tons of soothing thoughts Marley’s way.

After groom

Mom helped Marley off the grooming table so we could visit while she waited for her Mom. I only have one question.

Why is everyone so dang interested in my behind!?

I am Lucy, Ace Reporter on the Groom Beat, signing off.

Grooming with Mom: Art Imitating Groom

Lucy, Ace Reporter on the Groom Beat, here. Today I have a bit of a different report. You have already met Maggie the schnauzer and Dora the shih tzu. They have been coming to Mom to be groomed for six years. Their mom’s sister-in-law is an artist. Can you see the pictures she is painting? On the left is the picture their mom took, and on the right is the painted portrait.

In other news, most of the folks wanting their pups groomed before Easter came by the weekend before. Our friend Pete the Chorkie lives in the neighborhood and his mom goes to church with our folks, so Petey came Easter Saturday and got lots of special attention. He’s been having some health problems, including a collapsing trachea and he coughs when he’s nervous.

I stayed with him to help him be calm, and we were glad to report to his mom that he only coughed once while he was here. He’s also had to get sub-q fluids every week. His mom said that he hates it so much that he runs and hides when he sees her getting things ready to do that. So she has decided to stop and hope and pray for the best. Maybe you could send him some POTP too. It sure has helped some of our other friends who sit on Mom’s table.

This is Lucy Ace Reporter signing off. *wags*

Grooming with Mom: Bath Time Fiasco

Lucy, Ace Reporter here, with news on the Groom Beat. Not too long ago I reported about Mom’s record setting six hour groom. If you missed that one, you can read about it here. Aoife (pronounced eefah), the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, came back on Monday for her second professional groom. I will add kudos here to her mom and dad for keeping all the mats brushed out of her fine, thick coat. After all the preliminary stuff – you know, cutting toenails, pulling hair from ears, combing through her hair – it was time for her bath before getting her haircut. Aoifa’s almost too big for the bathing sink, and didn’t want to be bathed. Mom wrestled with her to keep her in the sink,  but Aoifa was determined. She climbed up on the top ledge of the sink! That was another first. We can’t wait to see what happens in six weeks when she comes back for her third professional groom. Oh, and it only took three hours, this time. Maybe next time will be even shorter, ya think?

Grooming with Mom- The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

lucy ace reporter

Lucy Ace Reporter on the Groom Beat here. Today I am reporting about news in the lives of our Mom’s grooming clients instead of on new dogs coming to be groomed.

We have the Good:Why is this mess good, you may ask. This is Maggie. Previously, we asked for POTP for her Mom, who was battling breast cancer. During the final stages of the battle (wait, don’t cry yet, it’s good, I promise) Maggie didn’t have time to come for a groom, and ended up looking like this when she came a couple of weeks ago.

When her Mom picked her up (yes! I said her Mom!) she looked like this. Her Mom had been going through reconstructive surgery and is better now. She didn’t even have to do something called chemo. We want to thank everyone for all the POTP’s that helped give this story a happy ending continuing.

Next, the Bad: Do you recognize Maggie (L) and Dora? No, no, they’re not bad. They’ve been coming to us for years and we know and love them. Here’s the bad: their grandpa died and their grandma is not handling it well. It’s causing a lot of stress with their folks which, of course, trickles down to them. We know that some of you have recently lost close relatives and close friends, too, so you can empathize with Maggie and Dora.  POTP for their family, please.

Finally, the Ugly:

Roxxii is pretty adorable, right? It’s what happened in her family that is so ugly. Her Mom’s boyfriend died suddenly, and her Mom was right in the other room when it happened. They are young people, and no one should ever feel so bad that they should die like that. Her Mom is having a real, real hard time right now, so we ask for lots of POTP for her, too. Because she isn’t in a good condition to keep Roxxii brushed, she asked Mom to just shave her hair short. Mom thought she might get cold, so she gave her Xena’s first-ever hoodie,

Xena: But what if I want to wear that hoodie? It’s too small for you now, Xena. That means you can’t wear it cause it doesn’t fit you anymore. Our Mom was wondering what to do with it, and this seemed like a good way to pass on the love you always felt when you wore it.

Xena: Oh, OK,  I hope she feels loved in it too. I feel cozy and loved in my Sock Monkey jammies tonight.

Sometimes it seems like there is too much bad happening all around us. Let’s all remember to be kind to each other with a friendly word or pat on the head.

Your  friend, Lucy.

Grooming with Mom: Lucy and Aoife

Lucy here, Ace Reporter on the Groom Beat. Today I am going to feature two new dogs that came to Mom for grooms. The first one has the same name as me…can you imagine?

A neighbor called and asked about grooming her Maltese/Bishon mix. She said she had been widowed six weeks ago and the dog was a mess. Mom quickly put it together that this lady was the wife of the man whose twin engine plane went down in the Tennessee River and both he and his passenger were killed. Mom knew Frank ’cause he was outside a lot when we went for walks. On Halloween he would dress up scary and jump out from behind a tree to scare the kids. Mom nicknamed him Frank-enstein! Anyhoo, we weren’t busy right then, so Miss Janet brought Lucy on over. Lucy is a very sweet 8-year-old who acts like a pro on the groom table. Here is her “after” picture – Mom forgot to get a “before” picture.
She kissed Mom and sang about how good it felt to be groomed. Can you see her tail wagging?

Xena might have already told you that Mom is working part-time as Office Manager at a Jewish Synagogue. She has gotten to know some of the people, and one of the congregants and volunteers asked Mom to groom her Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier. Mom spent a long time watching videos to get ready since she had never groomed that breed. Wheatens hail from Ireland, so her Irish name is Aoife, pronounced Eefa. She isn’t quite a year old. This is what Aoife looked like when she got here at 11:30 last Monday morning. Her mom, Laurie, warned Mom that Aoife had some mats, and it turned out that her mom had no idea just how matted she was. Mom was determined to save Aoife’s coat, and spent hours de-matting her while she and Laurie gabbed about anything and everything. They even came upstairs and had cups of tea while Aoife was under the dryer. Laurie is a good petter, by the way, and said I am beautiful and sweet. 🙂 After drying Aoife, Mom found a bunch more mats and got back to work. The long blade on the clippers wouldn’t go through her hair, so Aoife got a scissor cut and gave Mom lots and lots of sloppy kisses. Miss Laurie sent us this picture from her house. We have no idea how Aoife’s hair got standing up on her head, ’cause it wasn’t like that when, at 5:30 pm – six hours after she had arrived – Mom declared her finished.Mom said this one set a record for the longest groom in Mom’s grooming history which she started in 1991. Miss Laurie gave her lots of money, though, and promised to comb her out really good every single day. She already made an appointment to come back in six weeks.

That’s all until next time, folks. Wiggles and waggles from Lucy, Ace Reporter, signing off for now.
