Xena: Once again we’re gonna let Fritz have the Sunday selfie. Maybe he’ll stop pouncing at us when he’s here if we do some nice things like this for him. Besides, Mommy has me and Lucy in another post coming your way soon, BOL!
Me and Mommy took Fritz and his Mom (our friend) Clare to the pet store last week to find him some clothes. For reasons only he knows, he liked wearing the clothes they tried on him. He got a new coat and a new sweater. The next day he went on an outing to visit with Miss Clare’s grandparents. He got to wear his sweater.
Fritz: I like going places in the car. It’s always fun!
Xena: We have a bonus picture of him shopping while he was on his trip to his great-grandparents.
Which picture do you like better for selfie Sunday?
We’ll see you again soon. In the meantime, please stay safe if you’re also getting this dangerous, icy weather!
First, thanks to Angel Brian, who is hosting Thankful Thursday, as well as Angel Sammy for the picture every week!
I love to dance, and sometimes I think about how Angel Lexi help Daddy and Mommy with their dance students. Maybe I could do that too.
Dance Lessonby Xena Schnauzer Princess
Arlene, keep your eyes from closing. Watch his lead so you don’t go boing. Arnold, your legs are too far apart. Bring then together or you might fart.
You both, your timing is just all wrong. You’re not listening to the song. I give up, you’re hopeless, I’m going home. You can pay for your lesson over the phone.
The End
Xena: I’m thankful that Miss Marie Cris rubbed my tummy every day she was here. I even started throwing myself back in the baby hold in her lap! That took a lot of trust.
Chia: I’m thankful that Mom brushes our teeth (almost) every night at 6:00. I don’t want to have to go get put to sleep while the dentist cleans them.
Lucy: I’m thankful for all the people who come into the church and talk nice to me and pet me. I smile at them and wag my tail, too.
We’re still waiting to see what happens here — the forecast keeps changing. Everything from snow with ice on it, then more snow on it, to just ice, to nothing. Guess we’ll know when it happens! Hoping everyone has a good weekend without too much (or any) snow and ice.
Lucy: First, thanks to Angel Brian, who is hosting Thankful Thursday, as well as Angel Sammy for the picture every week! I didn’t get in on the sister photo poem action last week, so I get to do the poem all by myself today. I’m not in the picture, either, but read on and you’ll find out why.
Snitched Onby Lucy
My sisters found out what I did Covered with mud playing with a kid. So they turned to AI to snitch on me. But it didn’t work. As you can see, That dog looks not a bit like me!
This is me (and my little sis, Xena):
Xena: Hey Lucy, thanks for including me in your picture. You’re a good big sister and I’m thankful for you. Chia: Are you thankful for me, too, Xeb…er, Xena? Xena: Sometimes. But especially when we play together. And I’m thankful that our visitors from the Philippines are still here with us. Marie Cris holds me every night and rubs my tummy. Lucy: Yes, and I’m thankful that I get to sleep with Miss Kim every night. I’m also thankful that I had a good 10-year birthday yesterday. Xena: Yes, but Mommy’s a bit worried about you cause you ate that entire, 14 inch long braided chew stick yesterday – the one Mommy got you for your birthday and thought it would take you days to chew through. Guess she doesn’t know you that well, huh? Anyhoo, Chia’s keeping an eye on you while me and Mommy and Daddy are all at work today. Just have Miss Kim or Miss Marie Cris call us if you need us, OK? Lucy: OK, but I feel fine. I’m gonna hang with them today. In the meantime, we hope all our friends have a good Thankful Thursday!
Xena: Merry Christmas to all my friends. I hope everyone is happy and your tummies full.
Christmas Eve Miracle:
I want to tell you the back story, and I’ll try to keep it kinda short. You probably already know we love our neighbor kids and they love us, especially Miss Clare and her little sister Lucy (yes, like our Lucy), so we all call her Lucia – which is her real name so there’s no mix up. I, Xena, am the reason 15-year-old Miss Clare fell in love with schnauzers. Then, this fall, the family’s friend’s schnauzer had five baby puppies. Clare had been trying to get her follk to let her have one since before they were born. They were a dogless family – sad, I know. My Mommy tried helping by tellling them how great us schnauzers are and stuff like that. They finally told her no, and she gave up. Then some circumstances changed. Guess what she got on Christmas Eve…
This is 12-week-old Fritz in Miss Clare’s arms.
He had a fun day of playing with the kids and chewing on stuff and peeing in the house. My Mommy is now his official Aunt Amy … and she got to hold him too. By the way, Miss Clare’s Mommy let my Mommy know she was making the hour drive to get a puppy for Miss Clare while Mommy was grooming me yesterday. My Mommy was so happy she started crying. Weird, I know. Then Miss Clare started crying when her Mommy walked in with the as yet unnamed puppy! Miss Clare named him Fritz. I’m sure we’ll all be seeing much more of Fritz!
Christmas Eve Bedtime:
Xena: Mommy, is Santa Paws coming tonight? Mommy: Yes, sweet baby. Go to sleep now so he will come.
Christmas Day:
Two of us waited patiently….finally…
I got Wiggles and Wags Fruit Slices: Apple & Pumpkin. And besides the taste, the best part is the ingredients: Apple, Pumpkin. That’s all! And I’m not allergic to either of those!!
Lucy: I got a bag of them, too! And I also got Wiggles & Wags Meaty Patties with beef and chicken and a coupla other OK things.
Chia: I got a bag of Wiggles & Wags Chewy Bones made with chicken and cheese (yummy). They’re soft and chewy.
Xena: Mommy opened our bags and we got to stick our heads in them and “stuff our faces” until she picked up the bags, saying, “Let’s save some for later. You just had breakfast.”
That was three hours ago. We’ve gotta go now to see if we can have some more yet. Lots of love and wishes for a good Christmas.
Mommy and Daddy left today. They are on their way to the airport here in Chattanooga. I heard them say they’re flying in a plane to Atlanta. Then they’re taking another plane all the way across the pond to London. Then, they’re taking an Ocean Liner named the Queen Mary. It’s going to take them through where the Titanic sunk and most of the people died! *shiver* But if they make it through there, they’ll end up in New York City, and take another plane home. They’re going to balloroom dance to a big band every night! I won’t see them again until very, very late on the Monday before Christmas. Mommy might not be able to get the pictures Miss Christy sends her of me and my sisters. And she might not be able to say hi or show any of them to you until after she gets back. And after she recovers. And after she goes into work and gets the bulletins printed for 3 services. Hey, wait, that means I can’t go to work next week, either.
But don’t worry, we’ll be back. Maybe even before next year.
I might wait right here with my new friend until my Mommy comes home.
Love and *wags* and a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, Xena, Lucy and Chia
Pee Ess: You didn’t get a Christmas card from us because Mommy was too busy to make and send any. Or even make and post any. *sigh* Maybe next year…
Xena: Well, I’ve got old bad news and also semi-good (or maybe it’s semi-bad) news. First the old bad news. Because I’ve been an itchy mess – chewing myself raw – Mommy put the Cone of Shame Honor on my neck. As often as I could I rammed it into her while following her down the hallway. I also asked her to promise not to show any pictures of me in it!
But, before I could extract the same promise about my new Soft Dog Cone (sometimes I hate Amazon), she snapped one and here we are. She could have at least brushed my beard first!
It still has the care instruction tag on it because Mommy wanted to see if I could get out of it. I should have tried harder, cause the tag’s off now. Guess that means we’re keeping it.
Daddy said Mommy could cut out some green leaves from material and sew them around it. I didn’t share a thankful yesterday, so here’s my thankful: Mommy said, “No.”
Xena: Happy Thankful and Poetry Thursday, everyone! I’ve let Chia jump in the picture with me. Well, and help me with the poem. I’m trying harder to be a good sister. Here we go!
Whatcha Doin’, Xena?by Xena and Chia
Chia: Whatcha doin’ Xena? You’re on that truck…I see ya! Xena: I’m tryin’ to find my breafast. The Ollies packs went too fast!
Chia: I think there’s more Ollie boxes, And maybe some salmon and loxes. Xena: I’ll knock them on the road. You check while I unload.
Chia: I’m running home to tell Dad! He’ll know that you’ve been so bad. Xena: And while in the kennel I lay You won’t have a partner to play.
Chia: Hey! Let’s keep unloading the boxes! Xena: We’ll both be as sly as foxes! Chia: And no one will bark ne’er a word Xena: This whole conversation just blurred.
Chia: I’m here first for the thankfuls cause I’m fast. I coulda probably outrun that truck. I’m thankful that we don’t have to chase down our yummy food. Mom always puts in in our bowls and puts it on the floor and says “wait” until we all have our bowls. Then she says, “Free!” and we can all eat. I’m thankful my sisters don’t try to steal my food, cause I’m the slowest eater. I like to chew my food, not just gulp it down like Lucy does.
Lucy: I’m still thankful for all the yummy little treat cookies that our friend Kim made us while she was here visiting. Mom gives me some while I’m at work with her. And I’m thankful for the nice weather. I love to lay out in the sunshine.
Xena: I’m thankful that Clare, the girl next door, comes over and feeds us and lets us out to potty when Mommy and Daddy are late getting home from work. Hmmm, I guess all of our thankfuls – and the poem – are about food today. Now everyone knows what’s really important to us!
And speaking of thankfuls, we are all thankful for Angel Brian, who is hosting Thankful Thursday, as well as Angel Sammy for the picture every week!
We are thankful for Angel Brian, who is hosting Thankful Thursday, as well as Angel Sammy for the picture every week!
Xena: I’m back in the saddle, as they say… Lucy: Xena, I really wouldn’t use that analogy after what happened last week. Xena: Geez, I’d almost forgotten about those horses chasing us. Anyhoo, I survived and am here with my poem about Angel Sammy’s fun picture (that I jumped into). Then we’ll all do our thankfuls! Here goes…
Yoga for Animalsby Xena Schnauzer Princess
Down Dog is fun to do. Mr. Bear tried it too, But he’s built a different way So did his yoga as he lay!
The End.
Xena: I’m thankful that I’m a dog, especially a schnauzer dog. That means I get to live with my Mommy and Daddy. (Bears can’t do that, unless they’re Teddy Bears.) And I’m thankful that the weather’s been so nice…no more bad thunder!
Chia: Yep, we do down dog every time we invite each other to play! I’m thankful Miss Jentry came over to visit with me last Sunday. Oh, and that the neighbor kids are back from their vacation AND are going to take care of me (and my sisters) this weekend while Mom and Dad go out of town for Mom’s birthday. I heard they’re staying at a place where there’s a horse farm. Kinda thankful I’m not going! Besides, I know they wouldn’t take me dancing with them, anyhow.
Lucy: I’m thankful, once again, that I got to go to work with Mom yesterday. I felt more like visiting this week, and I greeted and said goodbye to every single person who came through the door for their Al Anon meeting!
Xena: That’s it for this week. Hope y’all have a good, burr free, thunder free, horse free weekend!
Chia: It’s still my birthday month, woohoo! And Xena’s still lookin’ the other way (for real!) when I grab the picture for the Thursday poetry. So let’s start off with being thankful for Angel Brian, who is hosting Thankful Thursday, as well as Angel Sammy for the picture every week! Here we go!
Owl Delivery Plus by Chia
Mom! Owl Delivery you called is here. He says he’ll catch that mouse we fear. Miss Mousie’s smart, but so is Owl. He said he’ll need a grooming towel.
“A grooming towel?” my Mom replied. “Well, let him in with his supplies! Let’s see what Mr. Owl can do. It can’t be any worse than you.”
I hung my head, opened the door. Owl flew onto the entry floor. Mousie ran out and down the walk Then got grabbed up by a big hawk.
The towel’s to wipe the sidewalk clean; Here’s the terms on which we agreed. Thanks little Chia for today. If you’d caught Mouse I’d not got paid.
The End
Chia: OK, so it wasn’t so much a delivery as a service call. But that’s what I meant by “PLUS” in the title! Hmmm, wondering if Owl Delivery Plus really did come to our house. We haven’t seen hide nor poop from Mousy in a few days. Mommy read that mice can’t resist peanut butter, so she baited her new trap and all her old traps with Kroger cheap brand PB. Maybe Mousy likes the more expensive stuff and moved to a fancier house… hey, Xena, what do you have to be thankful for today?
Xena: I’m thankful I got to go to work with Mommy three times this week and *whispers* you didn’t get to go at all. Chia: Why do you think I can’t hear you when you whisper? I’ve got dog ears, too, you know. Xena: Oh, well, uh, I meant, you might run outside onto the busy road and get run over by a car. I, on the other hand, am well behaved and never do that kind of thing. I don’t pull on the leash, either, which is why I got to go for a walk with Mommy early this morning and you got put out in the dog lot by yourself. Chia: Grrrr. I just have more spirit than you! Lucy: Girls, this is supposed to be Thankful Thursday, not Snide Saturday. Let’s tone it down. I’m thankful for my walk this morning, and that we’re all allowed to sleep in the big bed with our folks at night. And also for Thomas the Mailman who comes to Mom’s work to give me good treats!
Xena: Lucy, you reminded me of one more thankful. Mr. Ted always came to the church to see me and give Mommy some papers with lots of numbers on it from Sunday. I like Mr. Ted almost as much as I like my brother Adam. Then someone else took his place. But Tuesday he came by just to hold me and pet me. Mommy helped me up into his lap and he talked sweet to me and gave me scritches in all my favorite places. He’s going on vacation, but told me he’d come back to see me when he gets back. *big wags*
Chia: I guess that’s a wrap for today, folks. Stay cool in this heat, and don’t let any little schnauzers push you around…gotta go!
We’re still celebrating my birthday today. I’m getting a “birthday weekend!” I had a great birthday yesterday!! Mom took me for a long walk around the neighborhood. Just me! (She hasn’t been walking me cause of how hard I pull and it’s just not fair.) Here’s some more of what I did…
We’ve had these treat puzzles, but don’t get to use them very often. My sisters got to use the treat puzzles too. I remembered how to get all the treats out, so XeBoo didn’t have to help me this time. She was too busy throwing the pieces in the air to get at the treats in her puzzle, anyhow!
Then I got my present:
A squirrel! I was so excited!
I took the squirrel out into the dog lot to see if it would run so I could chase it. Nope. So I brought it back in the house where I decided to finish it off.
It’s still with us and I’m still not naming it. Guess I’ll have to keep trying to catch the mouse in the house. Mom said that’s my job.
I’m Chia, mighty hunter and birthday weekend girl.
It’s happy Tuesday and we are here to show you something that makes all three of us very happy…our supper! Oh, and thanks to Miss Sandee at Comedy Plus for hosting Happy Tuesday Blog Hop!
Lucy: It’s said a picture’s worth a thousand words, so here you go…
I got chicken wings and strawberries and orange pieces and spaghetti squash (no wonder Mom and Dad like spaghetti!). There’s also our green tripe with organs and bone ground into it. I also got some of the Ollie’s brand gently cooked fresh beef with sweet potatoes, peas, spinach, and chickpeas.
Chia: Me too! I got all that too! *whole body wags* It takes me longer to chew up my chicken wing than it does Lucy. But everyone respects that and they leave me alone. Except for Mom who stands there and watches. Hmm, I wonder if she’s wanting some?
Xena: My supper is special cause I’m the Princess.
I never get any yucky chicken. Instead, I got Ollie’s gently cooked FRESH TURKEY with blueberries, kale, butternut squash, and spinach! And I also got the delicious green tripe mix, oranges, strawberries and spaghetti squash!
Oh no! *yawn* I wanted to do a selfie today but I fell back to sleep after breakfast. Now Mommy’s busy getting ready for work. Guess I’ll have to do it myself! *yawn* It can’t be that hard…
Oops, a little too close. I’ll try again.
That’s better, but still not right. Do you like my “help me get home” tag. I hope I never have to use it. OK, I’m gonna try again.
Hmmm. This one’s blurry and I’m too far away. And I’m looking the wrong way, too. Grrrr.
I give up. I’ll have to wait for Mommy.
Chia: Whatcha waitin’ for Mom for, Xena? She just left for work.
Hi friends, it’s me, Xena, back again having fun with a picture by Angel Sammy And, as always I’m thankful for Angel Brian, who does such a great job at hosting Thankful Thursday. I told Lucy she could do the poem since it’s her birthday month, but she said that I’m the little dancer in the family, so I might as well be in this poem. Besides, she was trying to take a nap in a sunpuddle.
Little Dancerby Xena the Dancing Schnauzer
Ballerina, you must have seen her Dancing with the troupe. A little schnauzer, A music whisperer, Dreams she’s part of the group.
But, oh, how real it feels Twirling on the floor With fairies round her feet. Only you, Mom, only you Can see me dancing to the beat Softly, slowly…
Xena: I want to thank Mr. Elton John for the inspiration for my poem today. (Can you hear the music in your head?)
Lucy: I knew you’d do a great job with this picture today, Tiny Dancer Xena. And if no one here minds, I’d like to give the thankfuls on this Thursday. I’m thankful for the big greenies like treat that Mom got me for Christmas, and smaller ones for Xena and Chia, too. As always, Mom read the packages carefully and determined that the Minties brand didn’t have anything harmful in it for us. Even though Mom brushes our teeth every day (almost-sometimes she misses a day), my teeth are starting to get some plaque, so we’re hoping these treats will help. And they’re soooo good! *wags* And I’m thankful for the homemade doggie Christmas cookies she made us all – in the shape of a bone – that have only really healthy ingredients and taste great! Some have tomato in them with oregano and some have pumpkin. I love them both. Well, after these thankfuls about food, I wonder how close it is to dinner time…or if it’s cookie time….gotta go check it out.
Your friends, Lucy the birthday month girl, and Xena.
Lucy, Ace Reporter, here with the newest news on the Border Crossings. A rabbit was sighted crossing our property border early last week. Xena, can you tell us more about what happened?
Xena: Yes, thank you, Lucy. I and my sisters were watching out the window for passersby to bark at when suddenly a bunny leaped out of the woods that define our property border on the north. The bunny hopped along our road border to the west and into our front yard. I quickly called for a meeting of the pack, as a decision had to be made. It was difficult to come to an agreement, as everyone was yelling at the top of their voices.
Lucy: Yes, I heard – and was a part of – all the commotion. What happened next.
Xena: It was a difficult decision. Was the bunny smuggling things into our yard? Was it going to try to hurt us? Why couldn’t it just stay in the woods where it belonged? It would have been so easy to chase the bunny and try to catch it. Fresh meat, you know. In the end, we all agreed that the bunny deserved the same rights as we had. The right to live in peace and eat our grass and move about in our yard without fear.
So we opened our borders to the huddled masses yearning to breathe free.
Lucy: That was a kind and smart decision we all made, and ended well for everyone. This is Lucy, Ace Report…
Xena: Wait, Lucy. Did you forget what happened a couple of days afterward? Word got out that we have open borders, and a different kind of immigration started. We started taking turns as border watchers. Remember? I’ve got this picture of you as a “watcher.”
A couple of days later it was Riley’s turn. That’s when the next property border crossing happened.
Here’s what he saw..
Lucy: It sure does look like we’ve become a diversified property!
Chia, Riley, Xena and Lucy, with liberty and free grass for all!
Today we thank The Cat on My Head for helping us to say Happy Mother’s Day with our Selfies! To settle the argument of who got to go first, then next, then next, Riley declared we shall go in age order, starting with the oldest. Here we go, and this one’s for you, Mom!
Mom Amy: Y’all make it a great Mother’s Day, my dear girls and sweet boy. I’m so happy everyone is healthy and happy. I love you too!
Xena: Why are you all dressed up in this picture, Mom? Are you going somewhere? Mom: No, this is a picture from last night just before your Dad and I went out ballroom dancing. Chia: You mean when you left us alone with no food or anyone to bug, umm, I mean, pet us? Lucy: I was afraid you wouldn’t come back! Riley: Happy Mother’s Day!
Xena: As promised, I am back today to tell you about my 3 hour trip to south Georgia to my breeder’s, Grammy Toni. It was a real nice day and a nice ride down the interstate. I mostly slept in my favorite kennel in the back seat of the car while Mommy drove.
Sorry for the bad picture. The kennel is soft and blue and has a fluffy pillow and my stuffie JenJen bear and my stuffie Priscilla.
Mommy warned me that there would be two fellas there with their schnauzers that they got from Grammy, too. Here are their “babies.”
L-R Katie Ann, Savanah, Bo
We’re all cousins, or something like that. Let’s just say we’re related.
I was really nervous about the whole thing. New place. New people, new floor to have to walk on. And most of all, seven new dogs to meet. I have to admit, I didn’t do so well at the meet and greet.
I mostly sat in Mommy’s lap or under Mommy’s chair. All the other schnauzers came up to me to sniff me and say hello, and I growled at them. I didn’t lift my lip or anything, I was just kinda scared. Not shaking-in-my-furs scared, just stay-away-from-me scared. The men were really nice and knew all about schnauzers, so they tried real easy-like to be friends with me, and I even got a treat from one of them. (This trip was rather short on treats.)
Mommy sat down on the floor and had what she called a Schnauzer-Fest. It made her really happy, and she kept smiling and offering to take one or the other of them home with us. But they all said they liked where they were, thank you very much. (Do you think it was cause of me?) Anyhoo, we found out that I’m related to all of Grammy’s schnauzers, too. Grammy lost her heart dog just a few months ago, and the fellas kept saying how much I look like him. When Mommy saw his picture, she couldn’t believe how true that was, and said she would have sworn that was me. He was my brother. What do you think?
This is Socrates. This is NOT me.
I would have liked a lot to have met my brother Socrates yesterday…we were twinsies for real! And then Grammy would be happy, too. So me and Mommy, we’re dedicating this post to Socrates (I will call him Socrates the Great), who is on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge.
First, thanks to Miss Sandee at Comedy Plus for hosting Happy Tuesday Blog Hop!
Today I honor miniature schnauzers across the world. No, this isn’t a federal holiday or even one of those made-up Hallmark holidays — although I think that’s a great idea! I just love the breed. I found this on FB, where I rarely look at anything at all. My hubby laughed, knowing that only by the grace of God, we only have one schnauzer…for now!
I was always a “big dog” person. I had Alice, my dalmation until she passed at 11 years. After that, my “then” husband and I bought a house in Cleveland, TN, where we could have more dogs. He always talked about having a schnauzer, so I got him one for his first birthday in our house. I’ll admit that I got this 6 week old puppy from a backyard breeder. I had never heard of backyard breeders at the time, but something sure seemed “off.” About a year later, when I found out what kind of breeder and person this man was, I went back to try to get my pup’s mother, but he said he didn’t have her anymore. Here is Freda.
When her dad left us, I wouldn’t let him take her. She and I bonded while grieving together. She developed terrible allergies, and the steroid shots caused her to have cushing’s disease. At age five she went mostly blind. As long as I didn’t move the furniture, no one could tell she couldn’t see. She even led the way on our hikes down wooded paths! She was smart, feisty, “top dog” in all situations, had attitude, and wanted most of all to be with me no matter what I was doing. In other words, she was a miniature schnauzer! She taught me about the breed, and they embodied all the things I admired and could want in a companion. When, at 13, she passed from the terrible effects of the cushings, I found someone who needed to rehome their mini schnauzer.
I took Evie to the vet after picking her up, and was told she had a bad heart murmur. I then took her to UTC Vet School in Knoxville, and was told it was a class 4 murmur, as bad as it gets. They could do surgery, but there was no guarantee. She was only seven months old. She had very little energy, and just cuddled or hung out quietly with my other two dogs.
All I can say is she had a good life…boating, sleeping in my bed, going on trips, and playing with the big German Shepherd who was living with me at the time. Well, let me define playing. The GSD would run through the yard, slowing when he reached Evie so that she could grab ahold of his neck with her teeth and hang on him like a giant engorged tick while he kept running. When she was 19 months old I came home from work and found her gone, still warm in her kennel.
After that I was determined to find a well-bred schnauzer. After researching, I contacted a breeder, Becky, who lived three hours away in southern GA. One of her females had just had a litter, and she emailed me pictures of them a couple of times a week. I picked one out and gave her a very Southern, girlie name: Anna Belle Lee.
When they were six weeks old I made the trip to Becky’s to meet her and Anna Belle Lee and leave a deposit. I would have to return in two weeks to pick up my puppy. I sat on the floor for three hours watching them all play. I met their Mom and Pop, who were also house dogs and seemed happy and well cared for. Anna Belle Lee was every bit as beautiful and sweet as I had imagined. But I was still living with the GSD, and I was concerned this wouldn’t work. There was another puppy who stood out as the one who could deal with him..and pretty much anything. I left to get some lunch, and when I returned I had made a decision. On the way home I knew I had to come up with a different name for this one, the one who tore up all the newspaper while the others slept; jumped and bit at the air coming out of the floor register; and generally, although physically the same size as them, had a huge presence amongst the other little ones. She was no Anna Belle Lee. I named her Lexi. Many of you knew Lexi, who was the inspiration for this blog.
To the right, Ara is doing an alligator roll with 8 or 10 week old Lexi’s head in his mouth. She wasn’t a bit afraid, but I was holding my breath. He did this after she had repeatedly grabbed his lip and pulled it until he screamed. At least she stopped pulling his lip…
There’s not enough space in one blog to elaborate on everything Lexi loved and did, but here’s a condensed list.
Agility
Titled in Freestyle
Played Toto in 3 plays, each 2 years apart, and won the Annie Award in the The Chattanooga Theatre.
Received a life-time pass to attend any Chattanooga Theatre production
Advertised the Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra from a pedi-cab
Made a guest appearance with a children’s ballet troupe
Helped us teach ballroom dance for 3 years to a group of homeschoolers
Did therapy with physical rehab patients
Visited nursing homes
“Therapized” at T.C. Thompson Children’s Hospital for 10 years
And more, so much more
Lexi with her headshot and Annie Award from The Wizard of Oz. She was very proud and possessive of the award.
Cancer took her in 2016 when she was 13 years old, only three months after she was diagnosed. I lost my partner and best friend. While I can’t say I’m done grieving her, someone else won my heart about a year later.
It usually takes me a while to actually, really love anyone. The day I brought Xena Schnauzer Warrior Princess home from another renowned breeder, I fell in love with her. Even though this is her blog now, and you see her all the time, she wants me to include her picture in this post. Like all my schnauzers, she loves having her picture taken.
She was 13 weeks old when I got her and took this picture. This is how the breeder groomed her, and I’ve tried to stay true to it. Oddly, her leg hair or “feathers” and her beard have never grown.
The personalities of all four schnauzers have been extremely different; they have been their own, unique dogs. Evie was too sick to be anything but docile. Lexi was self-confident, brave to the point of danger, was able to change to meet whatever was needed of her, and quick to see the upside and make the most of all the different situations I put her in. She didn’t like to cuddle.
Xena is a bit shy, sweet, loving, smart, and like the others loves to be with me and do anything I’m doing, especially freestyle. She loves to be outside and “hunt” critters. She’s also fearful of new situations and even of changing textures on the floor. She’s my baby.
If you’ve gotten this far in this long blog, I thank you. I’ll be back soon with more adventures with Xena and her “crew.” Thank you, Sandee at Comedy Plus for hosting Happy Tuesday, Oh, and why don’t you scroll back up and get one more laugh out of that meme?
Chia: It’s early and Mom’s taking pictures. It’s still cold out, so I pulled down my blanket – you know the one I got for Christmas and it’s all mine – off the back of the couch and wrapped it around me.
Now I’m warm and comfy.
Xena: So, my sissie Chia is happy on the couch, and I’ve claimed her place in her bed that’s in my kennel. Mommy says this is called an “on-going feud.”
Mommy has been letting my pretty hair grow out to keep me warm this winter. I got a bath, and she said to tell you this picture was taken before she got to brush my pretty hair.
Riley: Zzzzzzzzzzzz.
Lucy: Excuse me, I don’t mean to be rude, but I’m trying to take a sunbath.
We all want to thank Miss Sandee at Comedy Plus for hosting Awww Monday!
