Many thanks to Brian’s Home for hosting Thankful Thursday.
Lucy: I’m so thankful for my buddy Riley. He’s been with us for about three months. Sometimes his dad stays here too, and sometimes he disappears for a while. Riley gets a little anxious when his dad leaves, so I keep near him to help him know everything is OK.

When Riley is chewing a bone I lay down next to him and share his sunpuddle. (He’s not too keen on sharing the bone.) He likes to play with his Christmas reindeer in the evening, and he wants someone to play with him. I don’t like to play with stuffies, so he barks at Dad and Mom to throw the reindeer and then to play tug-o-war. He’s got a really loud bark! Sometimes Mom grabs the reindeer and starts running through the house with Riley chasing her. They go round and round and round until she finally throws the reindeer for Ri-boy to catch, and that’s the end of that.
He likes to wear the sweater I gave him for Christmas. I think he knows he looks good in it. When it’s extra cold out and his dad isn’t here he wears it to bed like a nightshirt. I’ve been sleeping in the bed with him. When his dad’s here Riley and I sandwich him. When he isn’t, we sleep however we want.

Unike us, Riley likes to sleep in. Xena and I want our breakfast at 6:00 a.m on the dot, and then we go back to bed for our first morning nap. Lots of times Mom has to call Riley to come and eat before she goes down to her basement office at 9:00. If he won’t come, then he has to wait until lunchtime to eat.

Xena: Daddy, Mommy, Lucy’s sleeping with Riley.
Daddy: It’s OK, Little One. That means you get us and the bed all to yourself.
Xena: Oh. OK then, I won’t tell Achilles.
You two have it all figured out…

Lulu: “I understand about sharing the sunpuddle but not the bone, Riley. Bones are exhaustible resources, but sunpuddles aren’t!”
Charlee: “That’s debatable about the sunpuddles.”
Chaplin: “Yes, they are only so big. Two cats fit in them better than one dog, sometimes.”

Thanks, BellaDharma. Even though my relationship with Riley is totally innocent, I wouldn’t put it past Xena to make trouble for me. I knew my blogging friends would undertand.

Oh, maybe I’ll ask Dad to video her running crazy through the house with Riley in hot pursuit! Great idea! Lucy
I don’t think that’s going to happen. Mom

Oh how I wish Riley and Xena would both learn to sing not bark. My two would happily eat breakfast at 5:30 if they could get someone to feed them then!

Sounds like the snoozing arrangements work for everyone (well except when your friend Riley misses his breakfast). Happy snooz-arama.

Lucy, you are such a good friend to Riley. It’s so nice of you to help him get over his dad being away for so long. We think it would be fun to see your mom play keep away with Riley.

so happy you all have your sleep partners sorted out and everyone is happy… i love to see all of you snuggle together, no matter how you sort it out…. maybe Beau could give Riley singing lessons, Beau sings for attention and food, no loud barking. YET. Beau was not an early dog when we got him 3 months ago, but we got up our normal times and he has changed to early peep now. he was eating his breakfast at 6:30 when we came home from the Ymca, but 3 months now we have been home. he only got left home for a month, now at 5 am he does his song for breakfast, then he sings to go outside and do the jobs, then at 7 he sings to walk…

Yes, Xexe can be a brat. Riley was my first beau, and my heart broke when he moved out and wouldn’t have anything to do with me. Now we’re friends, and I don’t think that will stop. XOX Lucy

He’s lived with Andrew the morning sleeper too long. He adapts some when Andrew leaves then gets stuck back in Andrew’s schedule when he comes back. Hmm, I’m going to woof to Mom about that. XOX Lucy

I bet it is! Mom and Dad love to cuddle with us, but they don’t get a good night’s sleep with us all together. So now it’s usually just the “little one” who gets nighttime bed privileges. *sigh* Lucy

I can’t help thinking that when the time comes for Riley and his daddy to move out, that you will miss your company a lot, Lucy… but you may need to reassure Xena that Achilles is still your Valentine!!! Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

we are like you… breakfast at 7 am and back to bed… we think your Riley will adapt to that rule, dogs are super smart and understand food related stuff as fast as lightnings ;O)
