My Polar Pal by Xena on Thankful Thursday

Thanks to Angel Brian, who is hosting Thankful Thursday, as well as Angel Sammy for the great picture every week!

My Polar Pal by Lexi the Schnauzer

I leaned too far to see the bear and in her den I fell.
She looked at me quizically. I thought, “I am in hell!
“Do you want to be my friend?” the big bear asked of me.
I’m loney here and have no one; I wish that I was free.

I smelled the truth of Lila’s words (I learned that is her name).
I tried to stop my shaking and think of a good game.
“Let’s play hide and seek,” I woofed. “I’ll hide, you look for me.”
I looked for a good place to hide and wished that I was free.

Lila found me quickly; she touched my nose with hers.
Then she cuddled close with me and gently groomed my furs.
My heart went out to this big bear; I wish she could be free.
Our wish came true! My next time there she’d been returned to her own family.

The End

Xena: I’m thankful that I’m not on display at some zoo, all by myself.
Chia: I don’t think you have to worry about that, Xe. I mean, who would want to pay to come look at you?
Xena: Grrrrr.
Lucy: Girls, please be nice. I’m thankful it cooled off some today. And that we got our much-needed rain overnight.
Chia: I’m thankful that we’ve gotten lots more walks. What, Mom? Yes, I’m ready to go walking now!

Xena: Looks like we’ve gotta go. Happy Thursday, and happy week!

Queen of the Couch Pillow Awww Monday

Thanks to  Comedy Plus for hosting Awww Mondays!

This couch pillow is near the top of the list of places that me and Xeboo (I know, I know, Xena, don’t call you Xeboo) vie for. Even Lucy tries to take this one over! And sometimes it’s a hard decision whether to get in Dad’s lap, lay next to Mom, or grab this favored spot in the living room. But today, I’m Queen of the Couch Pillow!

Your best friend, Chia!

Mom Amy: Chia came to us at seven months old and has been with us for a little over four years. I’ve never had a dumb dog, and I truly believe that Chia is only rivaled by Angel Lexi for being the smartest. We have to be careful to not allow her in situations where she can run off, which unfortunately restricts her from doing some things the other dogs get to do . But one thing I know for sure…her big heart overflows with love and caring (even though she shows it in strange and annoying ways to Lucy!). We wouldn’t trade her for anything!

Chia on Happy Tuesday

Chia and Xena lick the plastic wrappings their Ollie food comes in after I empty it while preparing their next supper and breakfast. I usually feed raw, but when I don’t have meat in the house or am just feeling lazy or rushed, I give them this pre-made, gently cooked food for raw or almost-raw fed dogs. And for people who can’t stand the thought of feeding raw, but want a healthier diet for their dogs. (No, I’m not getting anything for telling you this!)

Along with that, Chia knows if scraps of food are sitting on the edge of the kitchen counter, she is allowed to eat them. With that info, here is Chia!

This little girl, for as naughty as she can sometimes be, gives us so many smiles and laughter, and warms our hearts.

Chia the Mover on Awww Monday

I wanted to see outside. I was tired of the same old view through the windows while sitting on the loveseat. It was very limiting. I saw the chair at Mom’s desk. It even had a nice soft pillow on it. So I moved it over and positioned it so I could sit in it and watch out the window.

Oh, hi Mom. Not doing anything, just the usual neighborhood watch. How’d the chair get over here? I put it here. What’s the big deal? You weren’t using it.

Sure, you can take my picture for Awww Monday. I get a treat for it, right? And tell everyone I said “Hey!”

Many thanks to Miss Sandee at Comedy Plus for hosting Awww Monday!

Grooming with Mom: Dixie and Caesar

This is Lucy, with Awww Monday’s edition of Grooming with Mom. But first, a big shout out to Miss Sandee at Comedy Plus for hosting Awww Monday!

First up today is a new pup, just 2 months old, second day in her furever home, and getting her first groom. Dixie’s Mom is the daughter of another couple who have been bringing their poodle/Shih tzu mix to Groomer Mom for several years. Dixie, a miniature poodle/Australian Shephard mix, barely weighs a pound, even with all the fluffy hair she had when she showed up. She is only about 8 inches tall to the top of her head. Of course, Groomer Mom was awing and cuddling her too much to remember to get a “before” picture. Just take a look at her and add a lot more fluffy hair everywhere.

Never mind those crazy puppy dog ears. The hair will grow longer and then be cut straight across. Dixie was surprisingly good and not afraid of the scissors or the clippers. Of course, Groomer Mom fed her treats during the groom. (I would be good too, for those yummy treats!) We hope to see her again in about 6 weeks. Eventually, her face will probably be shaved, but enough trauma for the first groom, right?

Our second featured groom is a pup who has been here before. Caesar is a 14-year-old, long-haired dachshund. Previously, his Mom wanted him groomed like this:

This time, she decided that she wanted him to look like a short-haired dachshund. In other words, “Shave him all over, everywhere!” So Groomer Mom did as she was told.

When Groomer Mom called Caesar’s Mom to say he was ready to go home, his Mom asked how he looked. Groomer Mom replied, “Old.” His Mom just said, “Well, he is old,” and laughed. However, when she showed up, she exclaimed, “Oh my, he does look old. Well, I guess we won’t be doing that again.” Now that she will have a blank slate, Groomer Mom is going to try a different cut on his face than previously. That, however, will be a few months from now.

This is Lucy, Ace Reporter, signing off and wishing y’all an awww-filled week!

Grooming: Caesar and Rusty

Ace Reporter Lucy here today on the Groom Beat.

There’s an old saying, “No good deed goes unpunished.” Today, however, I have a story for you about how good begets good. Let’s start at the beginning…

Our pastor put out an email asking if anyone could help one of the members by taking her a meal while her husband was out of town. She had recently been in the hospital with an injury and was having trouble getting around. Because Mom has never done this, she decided it was about time she stepped up. The member (let’s just call her M.A. for short) lives very close to Mom and Dad’s favorite Mexican restaurant, so Mom called and asked M.A. what she would like. After picking up the order and finding M.A.’s house Mom was greeted at the door by two sweet pups. (You knew dogs had to be involved, right?) Mom and M.A. settled in to visit for a while with Mom on the floor petting the dogs. Toward the end of the visit, M.A. said she sure wished she had someone who could groom her dogs. She was very excited when Mom revealed that besides working as the Office Manager in a Jewish synagogue, she is, in fact, a dog groomer. M.A. immediately made an appointment for her daughter or grandson to bring her two pups that coming Saturday.

Here’s Caesar, who is a 14 year old long-haired dachshund, doesn’t show his age at all. Here he is before his groom.

Caesar is a very good boy, but he doesn’t like his picture taken. Groomer Mom must have taken a dozen or more shots and finally gave up with the one below after his groom. Groomer Mom asked me to add that she didn’t cut the top part of his face hair at all, but after seeing the picture realized she could have blended it with her thinning shears to look better.

When he got home to his mom, she texted to say how much she loved his cut and that it was the best groom he’s ever had. Caesar will definitely be coming back!

Next up is his nine year old brother Rusty. Rusty supposedly has lab and poodle in him. He and Caesar were both rescues, so it’s hard to say for sure. Rusty has an auto-immune disease, and was recently diagnosed with diabetes, for which he gets daily injections.

Rusty is now the tallest dog Groomer Mom has as a client since Aoife moved to Denver, but he still fit just fine in the grooming sink. He’s a real sweet boy, even though he’s a bit “busy” on the table. Here he is post groom.

Excuse me Miss Groomer, there is a hair sticking up on my nose.

Groomer Mom corrected those misbehaving hairs on Rusty’s nose before he went home. We look forward to seeing Caesar and Rusty back again in a few weeks.
