You Simply Won’t Believe (Or, an Office is Moved)

Xena: You simply won’t believe what happened.

Lucy: Is that because you make things up so often?

Xena: No! It’s because it’s, it’s…oh never mind, I just want to tell what happened. And it’s true. Every word of it. You’re not going to believe this. *hop, hop*

Mommy’s friend’s name is Laurie. Miss Laurie has Eefah (OK, so that’s not how it’s really spelled, but that’s what it sounds like, and I’m goin’ with it.) She’s a really nice Soft-coated Wheaten Terrier. Miss Laurie brings Eefah to be groomed every 6 weeks and her and Mommy talk the whole time. It’s something like 87 hours. This is Eefah after going home from being groomed.

I’m Aoife and I approve these pictures.

Lucy: Xena, this falls in the “Lucy Ace Reporter on the Groom Beat” category. What does this have to do with the offi…

Xena: Shhh, I’m telling the story, Lucy. So anyhow, Miss Laurie brought a bottle of…wait for it…whiskey to work. Did I mention that Miss Laurie works in the office next to Mommy’s? Anyhoo, it was for some event they were having, or so it was said. Mommy wanted to try it. Scandal! Drinking alcohol at work! So the office – in fact, the whole building – got closed – and…

Lucy: Hold up. That is not why the building got closed!

Xena: Well, how do you know? How do you know that the whole story about the building being something called structurally unsound was the real reason. Maybe it was a cover up to the scandal? Maybe…

I’m Ole Smoky Tennessee Salty Caramel Whiskey, and I do not approve this message.

Tennessee Whiskey Bottle: Hold up there, you crazy schnauzer. Do you really think that one little ole sip of me could close the entire building and make everyone have to work somewhere else? Do you think that they would have spent thousands of dollars for months and months — before the “alleged” scandal happened — trying to quantify the damage from the soil shifting that caused cracks and mold in the building? You are one loco pup with a big imagination. I get around, and I hear things. It was the terrible drought followed by the torrential rains that finally did it in. That bad soil the synagogue was built on finally did a real bad shift and now it is unsafe to be in there. Now stop telling tall tails, or even short tales, you little terrier with a giant imagination, and maybe some day you’ll even be allowed a wee sip of me.

Xena: *bewildered look* Uh, as I was trying to say, the office is now in the bottom floor of our home. That area is something called an “in-law suite.” I wonder where the “out-laws” get to sleep, BOL! With no 40 minute commute, Mommy gets to sleep later and work in her casual clothes. Of course, that also means we get our breakfast later, and I don’t like that at all. I jump in bed and nudge under her neck, trying to get her up to feed me, er, us.

Our new home office

And Miss Brooke, who is the Office Assistant and only lives a few minutes away comes to our house to work. She got her own key and everything. We get to stay in the office with them all day and get pet and I lay in Mommy’s lap a lot. Miss Brooke really likes us both and says we are very good pups. And I don’t have to stay in my kennel any more. Of course, that also means I don’t get my treat puzzle, either. That’s another thing that falls in the not good column, but I really do like having Mommy home all day.

Lucy: And now Mom is home when we think we should get our supper. I remind her by poking her with my nose. Me and Xena, we used to synchronize our pokes to Dad to let us out and give us treats, with Xena standing under me. He says we look like a 2-headed Cerberus like that. Now he shuts his home office door. He says his leg was starting to bruise and he wasn’t getting any work done, either. One day last week I stuck my head under Mom’s leg while she was sitting in her work chair and tried to lift her up so she would come feed us. It surprised her, but it didn’t work.

Miss Brooke’s own dog, Hank, has started coming with her. Every time I see Hank, I try to make up with him, but he doesn’t seem to want to be friends. I’ll keep trying, like I did with Riley, and I know he will eventually be my friend.

I’m Hank, and I’m not unfriendly or afraid; I’m just not interested.

Xena: Hank’s afraid of me. Mommy says it’s cause I bark at him. Isn’t that barkalishis? I’m only 15 pounds to his 45 pounds. He must know I’m a Schnauzer Warrior Princess. I invite him to play every time he is here, but he always says no way Hose Aye. My name isn’t Hose Aye. He must have me mixed up with some chihuahua he knows. Mommy got Angel Lexi’s bed from the attic for him to lay on. But when he’s not here on Wednesdays and Thursdays…

We keep Mommy and Miss Brooke company and give them moral support. All day.

Keep up the good work Mommy and Miss Brooke.

We are Lucy and Xena Schnauzer Warrior Princess at work.

Grooming with Mom

Hello friends. Lucy, Ace Reporter here today to report on another fantastic groom. This little shih tzu was referred to Mom by his grandma. She told her daughter, “You’d be crazy not to go to my new groomer!”

Are you gonna fix my hair so I can see, Miss Amy?

This is sweet 1 1/2 year old Rhett when he first got on the table. His previous groomer had cut his eye and didn’t tell his mom. They figured it out, though and got him treated in time to save his eye.

He’s still sort of a wiggly puppy, but Mom was very careful and patient with him. When she texted his mom to say he was ready to go, his mom asked if he could stay another hour. They just weren’t used to having him ready so soon, but that’s how Mom works. One dog or family of dogs at a time show up, get groomed, and go home. Anyhoo, Mom said yes, and brought him upstairs to visit with us.

It took a moment for him to get the layout of the house, but Rhett was feeling good and strutting his stuff. Of course, he quickly found the most popular room in the house.

Something smells good up there, Miss Amy.

Xena sniffed his bee hind and he growled, then Rhett sniffed her bee hind and she growled. Then they did the nose touch saying, “Let’s be friends.”

Lucy, Ace Reporter, signing off with wiggles and licks.

Grooming with Mom

This is Lucy, Ace Reporter, on the Groom Beat. Today I want to introduce Bailey. Bailey is almost as big as my little sister, but she is “small boned.” She is a Chorkie – a chihuahua and yorkie mix. Even as small as she is, it used to take someone holding her for Mom to be able to cut her nails. This time, however, Bailey behaved wonderful on the table. That’s a grooming term, you know – “on the table.” Bailey doesn’t have an undercoat – another grooming term – so Mom always gives her a “scissor cut.” Yes, another – well, you know.

It was Bailey’s peep brother’s birthday, so they dropped her off on the way to a birthday brunch. When Mom went outside to greet them and get Bailey, the birthday boy got out of the car and told Mom it’s his birthday and he’s 22, and then he gave her a big hug. It was hard to understand him, and he looked different than other peeps I’ve met. But I could sense that there was something special about him.

When it was time to pick up Bailey, her peeps were still at the restaurant and waiting on some of their food. So Mom brought Bailey upstairs to play with Xena. Xena started out by being her barky self until Bailey jumped up onto Mom’s lap and laid down the law to Xena. When she got down, Xena jumped up. Without a second thought, Bailey jumped back up and they shared Mom’s lap – or at least the chair – until Bailey’s folks got here.

Xena: I don’t think this is what was supposed to happen.

Wiggles and wags from Lucy, Ace Reporter.

This and That on Flower Friday

Xena – The Visit Ends: Our visitors finally went home after peeing  being with us for 10 days.

This is me, Xena, and my new friends, Laila and Louis.
Can I take this bone that I found home with me?
Sorry about ruining your big rug.
Bye, bye, Miss Amy. We liked being here.

Xena – A Hat? No Thanks.  Mommy decided once again to try putting Angel Lexi’s hat on me. A cast member gave it to her when she was in the Wizard of Oz. It has a star on it to show she was the star of the show.

Does my expression tell it all?

Lucy – No board, just groom: Chaz was supposed to stay with us last week, but something happened that his folks couldn’t go away.

Instead, he just came for a groom.

Xena – Heat and a flower or something like that: It was hotter than a witch’s ti…

Lucy – Xena! No!

Xena – What?

Lucy – The saying is “colder” not “hotter.”

Xena – Oh. Anyway, it’s been hot. So finally one day there was a slight break in the heat and we convinced Mommy to take us for a walk. I thought I’d better leave as much pee mail as I could, ’cause who knows when we will be out walking again, right? And we even saw some pretty flowers.

Lucy – More visitors coming this weekend: I found out that we are finally going to meet Morty.

I’m not sure how that’s going to go, but we are all hoping for the best.

One thing I am sure about is that I can hardly wait to see Ella again. You know we are tight! So, when I heard she was coming to visit, I shouted out a “Hey, girl” to her. She promptly responded the same to me.

   “Hey girl, hey!”

That went on for a while. Then I said, “I can’t wait to hang out with you. Just one thing, Ella. This here is MY Dad, OK?

She said as long as I understood that Aunty Jen is HER Mom, we’re cool.

                         Oh, solo mio…arrooo!

Xena –  Daddy is MY Daddy too, you know!

This is Lucy and Xena (she means Xena and Lucy) joining the LLB Gang (especially Rosy)  for Flower Friday.

Grooming with Mom: Marley

Lucy, Ace Reporter here with another episode of Grooming with Mom. Today we feature Marley, a border collie or Sheltie mix, no one knows for sure.

At home before groom

Marley is a rescue and her Mom thinks she is six or seven years old. Mom thinks she might be just a bit older, but you never tell a lady that. Did you know that Angel Lexi used to bark at anyone who called her old? She preferred “mature.” So, we think Marley is mature. She is also a bit plump, te, he. But she’s also a very nice girl. She was so scared that Mom called Dad on the phone (he was upstairs in his office) and said, “Send Lucy down; Marley needs her zen.” So down I went, and sent tons of soothing thoughts Marley’s way.

After groom

Mom helped Marley off the grooming table so we could visit while she waited for her Mom. I only have one question.

Why is everyone so dang interested in my behind!?

I am Lucy, Ace Reporter on the Groom Beat, signing off.

Grooming with Mom: Art Imitating Groom

Lucy, Ace Reporter on the Groom Beat, here. Today I have a bit of a different report. You have already met Maggie the schnauzer and Dora the shih tzu. They have been coming to Mom to be groomed for six years. Their mom’s sister-in-law is an artist. Can you see the pictures she is painting? On the left is the picture their mom took, and on the right is the painted portrait.

In other news, most of the folks wanting their pups groomed before Easter came by the weekend before. Our friend Pete the Chorkie lives in the neighborhood and his mom goes to church with our folks, so Petey came Easter Saturday and got lots of special attention. He’s been having some health problems, including a collapsing trachea and he coughs when he’s nervous.

I stayed with him to help him be calm, and we were glad to report to his mom that he only coughed once while he was here. He’s also had to get sub-q fluids every week. His mom said that he hates it so much that he runs and hides when he sees her getting things ready to do that. So she has decided to stop and hope and pray for the best. Maybe you could send him some POTP too. It sure has helped some of our other friends who sit on Mom’s table.

This is Lucy Ace Reporter signing off. *wags*

Grooming with Mom: Bath Time Fiasco

Lucy, Ace Reporter here, with news on the Groom Beat. Not too long ago I reported about Mom’s record setting six hour groom. If you missed that one, you can read about it here. Aoife (pronounced eefah), the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, came back on Monday for her second professional groom. I will add kudos here to her mom and dad for keeping all the mats brushed out of her fine, thick coat. After all the preliminary stuff – you know, cutting toenails, pulling hair from ears, combing through her hair – it was time for her bath before getting her haircut. Aoifa’s almost too big for the bathing sink, and didn’t want to be bathed. Mom wrestled with her to keep her in the sink,  but Aoifa was determined. She climbed up on the top ledge of the sink! That was another first. We can’t wait to see what happens in six weeks when she comes back for her third professional groom. Oh, and it only took three hours, this time. Maybe next time will be even shorter, ya think?

Lucy, Ace Reporter, signing off with wags and kisses

Grooming with Mom- The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

lucy ace reporter

Lucy Ace Reporter on the Groom Beat here. Today I am reporting about news in the lives of our Mom’s grooming clients instead of on new dogs coming to be groomed.

We have the Good:Why is this mess good, you may ask. This is Maggie. Previously, we asked for POTP for her Mom, who was battling breast cancer. During the final stages of the battle (wait, don’t cry yet, it’s good, I promise) Maggie didn’t have time to come for a groom, and ended up looking like this when she came a couple of weeks ago.

When her Mom picked her up (yes! I said her Mom!) she looked like this. Her Mom had been going through reconstructive surgery and is better now. She didn’t even have to do something called chemo. We want to thank everyone for all the POTP’s that helped give this story a happy ending continuing.

Next, the Bad: Do you recognize Maggie (L) and Dora? No, no, they’re not bad. They’ve been coming to us for years and we know and love them. Here’s the bad: their grandpa died and their grandma is not handling it well. It’s causing a lot of stress with their folks which, of course, trickles down to them. We know that some of you have recently lost close relatives and close friends, too, so you can empathize with Maggie and Dora.  POTP for their family, please.

Finally, the Ugly:

Roxxii is pretty adorable, right? It’s what happened in her family that is so ugly. Her Mom’s boyfriend died suddenly, and her Mom was right in the other room when it happened. They are young people, and no one should ever feel so bad that they should die like that. Her Mom is having a real, real hard time right now, so we ask for lots of POTP for her, too. Because she isn’t in a good condition to keep Roxxii brushed, she asked Mom to just shave her hair short. Mom thought she might get cold, so she gave her Xena’s first-ever hoodie,

Xena: But what if I want to wear that hoodie? It’s too small for you now, Xena. That means you can’t wear it cause it doesn’t fit you anymore. Our Mom was wondering what to do with it, and this seemed like a good way to pass on the love you always felt when you wore it.

Xena: Oh, OK,  I hope she feels loved in it too. I feel cozy and loved in my Sock Monkey jammies tonight.

Sometimes it seems like there is too much bad happening all around us. Let’s all remember to be kind to each other with a friendly word or pat on the head.

Your  friend, Lucy.

Grooming with Mom: Lucy and Aoife

Lucy here, Ace Reporter on the Groom Beat. Today I am going to feature two new dogs that came to Mom for grooms. The first one has the same name as me…can you imagine?

A neighbor called and asked about grooming her Maltese/Bishon mix. She said she had been widowed six weeks ago and the dog was a mess. Mom quickly put it together that this lady was the wife of the man whose twin engine plane went down in the Tennessee River and both he and his passenger were killed. Mom knew Frank ’cause he was outside a lot when we went for walks. On Halloween he would dress up scary and jump out from behind a tree to scare the kids. Mom nicknamed him Frank-enstein! Anyhoo, we weren’t busy right then, so Miss Janet brought Lucy on over. Lucy is a very sweet 8-year-old who acts like a pro on the groom table. Here is her “after” picture – Mom forgot to get a “before” picture.
She kissed Mom and sang about how good it felt to be groomed. Can you see her tail wagging?

Xena might have already told you that Mom is working part-time as Office Manager at a Jewish Synagogue. She has gotten to know some of the people, and one of the congregants and volunteers asked Mom to groom her Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier. Mom spent a long time watching videos to get ready since she had never groomed that breed. Wheatens hail from Ireland, so her Irish name is Aoife, pronounced Eefa. She isn’t quite a year old. This is what Aoife looked like when she got here at 11:30 last Monday morning. Her mom, Laurie, warned Mom that Aoife had some mats, and it turned out that her mom had no idea just how matted she was. Mom was determined to save Aoife’s coat, and spent hours de-matting her while she and Laurie gabbed about anything and everything. They even came upstairs and had cups of tea while Aoife was under the dryer. Laurie is a good petter, by the way, and said I am beautiful and sweet. 🙂 After drying Aoife, Mom found a bunch more mats and got back to work. The long blade on the clippers wouldn’t go through her hair, so Aoife got a scissor cut and gave Mom lots and lots of sloppy kisses. Miss Laurie sent us this picture from her house. We have no idea how Aoife’s hair got standing up on her head, ’cause it wasn’t like that when, at 5:30 pm – six hours after she had arrived – Mom declared her finished.Mom said this one set a record for the longest groom in Mom’s grooming history which she started in 1991. Miss Laurie gave her lots of money, though, and promised to comb her out really good every single day. She already made an appointment to come back in six weeks.

That’s all until next time, folks. Wiggles and waggles from Lucy, Ace Reporter, signing off for now.

Grooming with Mom – Landry, Dallas and Bonnie Blue

Hi folks! This is Lucy Ace Reporter on the Groom Beat. Today I am here to tell you about three of the worst messes my Mom has groomed, all from the same owner.

This is the “before” picture of Landry, an 8-year-old shih tzu.Landry was at the vet in October, and you can see on his back where the techs there tried to shave him down. They said they couldn’t do any more and stopped. From October to now, that hair has never grown. When he came to Mom, his legs, tail, ears and face were completely matted, some clear down to the skin. Urine and feces were in his back leg hair. Landry didn’t want groomed, and he kept trying to bite Mom. Even a muzzle wasn’t enough – he was going crazy. Super Hero Dad to the rescue! Dad held Landry while Mom shaved him all over, even his face. He got a good bath and ended up looking like this. Landry seemed much happier by this point. You can sorta see how overweight Landry is. He can hardly stand up. Mom thinks it’s his thyroid, especially with the hair not growing on his back, and asked his Mom to get him checked.

Mom’s next challenge was Dallas, a 12-year-old Yorkie, who is diabetic. She forgot to get a before pic, but he looked something like this. Most of Dallas’ hair wasn’t as matted as Landry’s except for his legs. Mom had to muzzle him to shave his legs and feet, but Super Hero Dad did not have to be called. You can’t really tell from his “after” picture, but Dallas is also very overweight.

The final dog of the trio is a 10-year-old Pomeranian, Bonnie Blue. Let’s just get right to her “before” picture.Mom brushed Bonnie for a whole hour, using a dematter, a horse curry comb, and a slicker brush. She thinks she brushed enough hair off to make another dog. Bonnie also had to be muzzled for her feet with Super Hero Dad holding her, too.I don’t know if I am supposed to say when Mom has favorites, but I am going to tell this time. Bonnie Blue stole Mom’s heart. Doesn’t she look happy after her groom? She even gave Mom a thank you kiss on the nose. Unfortunately, under all that clean fur is another fat, er, overweight dog.

Mom – and especially Dad – hope the lady brings Landry, Dallas and Bonnie Blue back before they get in such bad condition again.

This is Lucy, Ace Reporter on the Groom Beat, signing off

Grooming with Mommy: Maddie (and a blurb from Xena)

I guess you could say this is a Two Part Post. So that my sister Xena doesn’t steal the last half, I have given it to her, as she is tugging on my ear with her teeth and telling me that she wants to say something, too.

Part One: Hi, this is Lucy, Ace Reporter, with a clear conscience, on the Groom Beat. Today’s article features Maddie, a salt and pepper colored Schnauzer. Maddie is the same size as Angel Lexi was and has turned almost silver. Her Mom (Anne) is an expert organ player and knows my Mom from when Mom worked at St. Luke. Anne usually grooms Maddie, but sometimes she needs an expert groomer’s touch.  The holidays were so busy that Maddi got pretty madded, or matted, and Mom’s touch was needed. Xena and I got to come in the groom room and be with them, but Xena couldn’t stop her yapper so I took her upstairs. Before long, Mom was done and Maddie had her bath they all came upstairs too. Xena and I sort of played with Maddie while the peeps visited over lunch. On the way back downstairs, Xena was on one side of me and Maddie on the other when they decided to (almost) get in a fight and barked and lunged at each other right underneath my belly! That sure was a moment I don’t want to repeat.  Lucy, signing off from the Groom Beat, with my guts still intact.

Hi, Xena here. I just wanted to say that I miss my Auntie Jen, who took care of me at Christmas time when Mommy and Daddy went away. Auntie Jen, will you and Uncle Bill come back to visit me soon,  please?XOXOXO Your niece, Xena Schnauzer Warrior Princess

Grooming and More: Roxxii, Dora and Maggie

Today, Ace Reporter Lucy on the Groom Beat. First, we have Roxxii. Isn’t she a doll? Mom did what she calls a “Winter Groom,” leaving her body and leg hair long to help her stay warm.

Her Mom had to leave her for three hours while she worked, so Roxxii came upstairs to stay with us.Xena: Who are you and why are you here? I play bowed and you didn’t respond. Don’t even think about taking my Mommy or stealing my food or my pressies from under the tree.

Roxxii: I hadn’t thought about any of those things until you mentioned them, schnauzer dog. Where are the pressies? I don’t see any.

Xena: Just never mind. I already hid my reindeer when I saw you coming.

30 minutes later after Roxxii ran all over the house looking for Xena’s reindeer…Roxxii: I want my Mommy.

Meanwhile, downstairs in the grooming room…Dora the shih tzu: Maggie, did you see if that other dog ever came back? What happened to her?

Maggie the schnauzer: I don’t know, Dora, but I’ll protect you.

Maggie: Miss Amy, where did that other dog go? Is she staying with you while her Mom and Dad go away like we stayed a few weeks ago? Is she OK?

Dora: (As their Mom pulls into the driveway) Can we go home now, Miss Amy? Are we staying with you again, too? I really want to go home.

Angel Lexi: There’s no place like home.

Well, I seem to have totally lost control of my article, so I guess that’s all for today, folks. Wags and wiggles from Lucy, Ace Reporter who needs a lock on her computer.

Xena Groomed

I had been wondering when I would get groomed again. I knew I was way overdue. My back hairs stood up like a crazy clown’s hair when they were rubbed the wrong way. My hair does need to be kept pretty as befits a princess, even a warrior princess, right? Are we done? No bath today? Woo hoo!

Will I do a nice pose next to all of my hair that is no longer on my body?

How’s that? Do I get a cookie now?One more, and look a little more interested?

Geesh, how interested can I be in old hair that I can’t even eat?Hey everyone, look at all my hair on the table! I am so interested in what you think! Can I have a cookie now, Mommy?Hey Daddy can I get a glass of that special stuff in the schnauzer bottle? Maybe just a little? As compensation for being groomed? No? Another cookie, then?

I am Xena Schnauzer Warrior Princess, always campaigning for the good things in life.

Grooming with Mom: Pete

Hi Friends, today’s episode of Grooming with Mommy is brought to you by Ace Reporter Lucy on the grooming beat. This picture is from over a year ago when Pete first started coming to Mom. Our folks know each other from church.                              before                                                   after

Petey’s 11 years old now, and has recently had some serious health issues. His Momma is a champion, though, and even learned how to give him fluids at home. I know all the prayers we sent up for him helped, too. Pete was here again getting groomed, and his ride home was about 10 minutes away, so Mom held him in the chair by the front window so he could watch for her. “Hey Lucy, I think that’s my Momma coming up the road!”“Nope. I sure wish she would get here. I like you and Miss Amy, but I need to go home and take a nap.”

About 87 seconds later Petey’s Momma came and got him. We hope you enjoyed today’s episode of Grooming with Mom.

Love and Wiggles, Ace Reporter Lucy

Grooming with Mom: Benny

Hi Friends, and welcome to another episode of Grooming with Mom. Our pup this week is a 10-week-old cockapoo and this was his first groom. Here is Benny after his bath. He’s just a baby, and he got scared, so Mom brought in the big dog to help calm him (me). I was real sweet and told him everything would be ok, and that I would be laying on the floor right next to the table in case he needed anything. That did seem to help a lot. Benny’s granddad brought a picture that Benny’s Mom sent for how she wanted him groomed. NOTE: This is NOT Benny. This is an actor.

The clippers on his face terrified him, so Mom made the executive decision that she wasn’t going to do that. Here is Benny all groomed, sorta’like the picture. His ears are crazy fuzzy ’cause the hair is still growing in on them.  Mom isn’t super happy with the results. Benny didn’t care. He was so exhausted that he laid down on the table and fell asleep while he waited for his peeps to come get him. I stayed there as I promised until the car pulled into the drive, then I went upstairs to check on Xena.

This is Lucy, Ace Reporter on the Groom Beat

Grooming with Mom: Max

Hi friends, and welcome to today’s edition of Grooming with Mom. Today I want to introduce Max the bishon frise. Here’ an article on the breed’s history, for anyone interested.  Mom met Max’s dad at our yard sale last weekend. The last time Max was groomed, the Not-So-Smart-Pet Place shaved his tail without asking his dad. They said it was matted. Mom grimaced when she heard that, and handed the man her grooming card.Mom forgot to take a “before” picture, so here are two “after” pics. Mom spent the first 40 minutes of this groom working mats out of Max’s ears, and from under his ears and his head. I guess she could have just shaved them *shrug* but she’s smarter than that. She just did the work and charged more, BOL! His dad didn’t mind paying more, and even gave her a tip. It’s going to take time to grow out his face and tail to how they should look, but he’s only 8 years old…there’s time.

Thanks for joining us for another issue of Grooming with Mom. Wags and wiggles, LucyYou groomed my dog how?!

Grooming with Mom: Sophie and Dexter

Hi there! Lucy here with another episode of grooming with Mom.  Today we feature Sophie, the 11-year-old salt-and-pepper Miniature Schnauzer, and her brother Dexter, the 4-year-old white miniature schnauzer. They are both bigger than Xena; Mom says they are the same size as Angel Lexi. They are good pups, except when it comes to shaving around Dexter’s nards. Dad had to hold him for that, while reassuring him that his prized possessions would still be there when Mom got done, BOL!

Ladies first, so here’s Sophie “before”and “after.”.Sophie thanked Mom with nose kisses.

Mom thought it would be fun to show a “halfies” with Dexter. Cray-cray, right? Here he is all groomed and bathed.

Dexter had to check to be sure no parts were missing.

Lucy signing off until next time. Love and wiggles (but not on the grooming table)

Garage Selling with Mommy

Friday I was the official garage sale pup. Since my dear friend Mr. Purrince Henry taught me how to count, I was able to help Mommy know what number to put on the stickers with that funny $ in front of them.

The first thing to sell 87 minutes before the sale even opened was Santa Claus.  Nothing else in this picture sold at all today, but lots of other stuff we don’t have pictures for did. I laid sweetly in Mommy’s lap and let everyone pet me. I was what is called the PR Dog. I even helped Mommy get a new dog to groom, a Bishon Frise. The nice man is going to make an appointment because the last place he took Max – Max is his dog’s name – they cut all the hair off his tail. I don’t see the problem, but if it gets Mommy a new dog to groom, that’s good.

I got rewarded with blueberries. When Mommy closed the box, I pushed it all over the driveway, but couldn’t get it opened. Mommy said I had to do a little more work for pay, so we worked on my newest Agility Won exercises. I had to sit still and not get up or scoot while Mommy walked away from me (with the blueberries), then walked back right past me, circling around my tail end, and then around to my front. I moved my head to follow her, but that’s all, just like I was supposed to do. Mommy said I was a very good girl and I got more blueberries. Not too many, though, ’cause too many gives me the squirts…blue squirts.

There was so much stuff left that we are going to do it all again Saturday. My peeps brother Adam is going to help while Mommy grooms three dogs.

That reminds me, but I am going to whisper so Mommy doesn’t hear me telling you. Last Sunday she was sitting in the window chair in the front room and started feeling something stinging her back. It got her really good, and around on her belly too. When she lifted her shirt, a fire ant dropped, and she thought it fell into her pants. So right there she stripped off all… oh never mind, Lucy is making the cut motion with her paw. Anyhow, Slider and Peyton came to get groomed, and even though the bites were swollen up like lakes, she went downstairs to groom them. Pretty soon she used her phone to call Daddy who was upstairs and told him she needed benadryl right away, and being a good Daddy he put down his work and brought her some. A little while later, after Slider had his bath and she had cut Peyton’s nails, she lifted Peyton off the table and Mommy laid down on the floor because she was starting to faint. She managed to get Daddy on the phone again, and he came down and took her to the medi-clinic place. (Side note: Mommy managed to call the pups’ Mom and left the door unlocked so she could come get them.) She was able to get up and get in the car and laid the seat back. Gross alert! She was mostly almost-fainted on the way there, even when she started to throw up. Since she was laying back and almost fainted, she also mostly missed the bag, and there was a big puddle in her lap. Now here is the My Daddy is a Hero part. He didn’t faint and he didn’t puke. Instead, he got her to the doctor’s. In the parking lot he took off his shirt, pulled an old pair of his jeans from the trunk, and helped her get changed into his clothes in the car so she could go into the doctor place – looking like a homeless person. Then he drove home and got dressed and brought Mommy clothes to change into. Don’t I have the bestest Daddy is the whole world? Oh yeah, Lucy said I should tell you Mommy was fine after that. She was feeling so much better that she said her usual No! when the doctor tried to give her prednisone, he, he. So anyhow, Slider and Peyton are coming back tomorrow to get groomed.

OK, OK, I know this is getting long and there’s no pictures, so you can stop reading if you want, but I have more to whisper to you. Two days later Mommy took us back to the dog park. She was loading the poop bag dispenser with plastic bags from home when something bit or stung the top of her hand. At first it hurt a lot and then redness started spreading all over her hand and wrist. She still stayed and let us play – which wasn’t as much fun ’cause there were hardly any other dogs there – and took another bennie when we got home. Whoops, Lucy said I should say benadryl so you don’t think Mommy is a drug addict or something like that. Anyhow, within a couple of hours, her hand and wrist were swollen up like a fat glove. You couldn’t even see any of the wrinkle in it. Shhh, don’t tell her I said that! She couldn’t even make a fist or hold onto stuff. The next day the redness had creeped up her arm, so she made the decision to go back to the same medi place. This time she accepted a shot of steroids in one hip and a shot of antie biotics in the other hip ’cause the doc said she had both inflammation and infection. It took until Friday for her hand to look normal again, and she is taking antie biotics and preds and probiotics and eating lots of yummy yogurt, even though nothing tastes good now. She’s not sleeping much but she is peeing a lot and hungry all the time. Maybe that’s why she doesn’t like the medicine. Although I am hungry all the time without any medicine.  Lucy just mentioned that this is turning into a novel, so I should say goodbye now.

Oh, and could you please just say something in the comments about me helping with the yard sale and not this part about Mommy ’cause I don’t want her to know I told you. ‘K?

Grooming with Mom: Roxxii

Hmm, I wonder if her name is really Roxy or R O twenty three.

Hi, friends, this is Lucy with another episode of “Grooming with Mom.” In this episode, my peeps brother Andrew was hangin’ with one of his friends…I wonder if Riley was with them and if he was thinking about me. Anyhow, his friend’s girlfriend was there with her 8-year-old shih tzu, Roxxii.  He, he.

So Andrew said, “Oh my God, that dog is an unholy mess! You need to go see my Mom right away!” OK, maybe not exactly like that, but she got the message, right?

Here’s Roxxii’s before picture: Andrew was right, right? Mom said that Roxxii is a very good girl. Mom’s thinking maybe a scissor cut next time would be more attractive, but it will be whatever Roxxii and her Mom want. Well, mostly what her Mom wants. When Roxxii was done, she looked like this:Her Mom was so happy that she asked if she should bring her back in two weeks. My Mom tried not to laugh when she said she thought six weeks might be just about right.

This is Lucy, signing off with licks and wiggles from Grooming with Mommy.
