Mom’s Birthday Trip

Hi friends, I’m back with pictures of Mom’s birthday trip to the North Georgia Mountains near Helen, GA.

They drove along the famous Ocoee River where there’s lots of rafting and tubing. This is a picture of people whitewater rafting. I think I’d rather stay home!

They kept driving up and down mountains and back and forth on winding roads, until they got to their Air B & B in a little town called Sautee Nacoochee, GA. This is the scenery they mostly saw.

Mom wanted to get a picture of them on the porch, with the trees and mountains in the background. Their backs were to the north, and the sun was busy setting in the west, so the picture isn’t too good. The mountain town of Helen, Georgia has Octoberfest all of September and October. The folks hit it mid-September before it got crazy busy. All the stores and restaurants down the “main drag” were part of it

Now comes the best part! *suspenseful music*
I can’t figure out how, but Mom got word that I was wanting to make elephant stew to surprise her when she got home on her birthday. She and Dad looked and looked for elephant meat. This was as close as they could find (ads on the windows of local stores).

Oh, well, at least they tried. They’re going out of town overnight again soon (they’re going to Inn Dee Anna to a big dance) so I’ll take another look in Mom’s recipe box then.

Oh, I should also mention that they both had a great time at the Octoberfest dance hall where live bands played all day long. They danced and danced the polka until they couldn’t dance anymore, Then they went for a walk, came back, and danced some more! One person even asked for an “at the moment” dance lesson, which they gave him. I guess I’ll finish up with a coupla pictures Mom took of feel-good signs in the windows of a chocolate store. (We didn’t get any chocolate.)

Xena: Hey Chia, did you eat chocolate? Mom weighed you in at 5 pounds over what you weighed in the spring. I’ve been hearing her call you her little sausage.

Chia: Grrrr.

We’re In Inn Dee Anna

Hey friends, it’s me, your favorite schnauzer girl! Uhh, Xena, in case you forgot me since I’ve been gone from home one whole day.

We had a great trip to a city called Fort Wayne, although we drove into the same kinda heat that we thought we had left bee hind in Chattanooga. It’s OK, the nice Air Bee and Bee House we are staying in has the cool air conditioning.

If you look real close at my tag you’ll see it says HELP ME I’M LOST. Don’t worry, I’m not really lost. That’s just for if I go outside and get lost. But I try to stick real, real close to my Mommy!

Mommy and Daddy went out to a Mexican restaurant to eat with his sisters and their families last night. Daddy has a lot of food allergies that hurt him in different ways. For whatever reason, he forgot about that last night, and so did Mommy. She didn’t even think about reminding him not to order the dish with chorizo (pork) and bacon (pork) and cheese (dairy). She said that they had a great, fun time, but just before they left the restaurant he had to run to the bathroom, trying not to cover his mouth with his hand before he got there. They had planned on going dancing after the meal, but Daddy just kept getting sicker. The pepto bismol Mommy got him helped and he did manage to keep everything where it should be, if you know what I mean. But today he’s really tired, a side effect of one of the forbidden foods. I really don’t know what got into them, uh, I mean, why neither of them thought about it. They always think about that with food. Oh well, I bet that doesn’t happen again anytime soon!

I am feeling braver more confident than last time when Lucy and Chia were here with us. Before, I was pretty scared timid on the big wood stair going up to our bedroom. I did manage to pose for a picture or two near the bottom. (These 2 pictures are from our last trip here.)

Now I run up and down without a second thought!

Well, I’ve gotta go now – just wanted to let y’all know how it’s goin. Mommy has to go to the W-mart store to get my Grandma a cake and stuff to decorate it with.

Hope to see y’all soon!

Sweetheart Bear Goes on Vacation

Mom and Dad went on a weekend vacation without us. Mom said she meant to leave Sweetheart at home with us, but that naughty bear hid in the back seat of the car behind the cooler. They’re back, and I’m going to make Sweetheart tell me where they went and what happened while they were there. She ‘fessed up right away. They drove to a big cabin in the woods and slept late ’cause we weren’t there to get them up. Daddy cooked all their meals and made lots of good drinks that we aren’t old enough to drink. They were sweet and some even had ice cream in them.

Mommy made a dump cake for dessert and they broke their “no sugar” rule all weekend!

Sweetheart visited with the bear living in the children’s room. Her new friend read a Dr. Seuss book to her. It is called Oh, the Places You’ll Go!

I don’t know how she got up so high to explore the big shelf in the living room.

Daddy had to help her get down, so she stayed with him while he took a little chair nap.

Then she went upstairs to Mommy and Daddy’s bedroom and took a little bed nap herself. She said there were three beds, and this is one was ju-u-ust right.

When she woke up, she sat at the bottom of the bed looking out the window at all the trees and listening to the noisy, bubbling creek down below. She  wondered if there were any big black bears in those woods.

When she went out to check for bears she found a gnome who is related to the gnomes at Rock City. He played Sweetheart a little tune. Then he asked her to give his kinfolk his love when she goes to Rocktober Fest this year with me, Xena. Hmm, I wonder why she thinks she is going to get to go with me.Lucy: Sweetheart had a wonderful time on vacation, and she wants me to ask if you are done forcing her to ‘fess up.

Yep. I’m done. And I don’t think we should tell the folks about how much fun we had with our sitter, Miss Christy. How ’bout if we just let them feel bad that they deserted us. After all, we are a happy pack again.

Here and Gone Again by Lucy

Early in the morning last Friday, right after Mom gave me my breckies, she packed the car and left. She took both my peeps brothers and my Auntie Jen – who I had just met! – with her. 87 hours later she sent this picture to Dad’s phone to let him know she got to wherever she was going:

Dad said Mom went to a place called Floorida. So here I was with no Mom, and Riley with no Dad. Dad replied to Mom with this picture of poor pitiful us. I wonder if it made her want to come home.

Dad claimed to be sad and neglected too, but I think it was just to make us feel better. After all, he did fix this for his supper:

And finished up with this:

Mom didn’t send any food pictures, but she did send some restaurant pictures to Dad. Everyone but Mom ate a lot of alligator. They said it tastes like chicken. I wonder where I can get me some alligator…

After 87 days, Mom came back home. I think it was Sunday. Now both Mom and Dad are packing their suitcases. And brother Andrew just left. I am worried. Who is going to feed me? And pet me? I am not going to let Mom out of my sight!

I will let you know if I survive.

Love and wiggles, Lucy

Lucy’s Vacation

Hi Friends! I promised to tell you what I was doing “next weekend” which has turned into “last weekend.” I tried to pin Mom down last week to write my blog, but she kept pushing me off her.

I went on vacation – without Mom and Dad! I stayed at this really, really, really, really nice lady’s house. Her name is Martha and I had met her once before when I still had my job at the church. She gave me a frozen pig’s foot just like the one I had lost, and it kept me so busy that I only dug one hole in her front yard. Ms. Martha took me in her car to her son’s house. I met Jax and Brody and we played hard.

It was hot outside, so we cooled off on the patio together.

On Sunday we went back and this time there were little people and another dog. I had so much fun!!

We got back home to Ms. Martha’s just before Mom and Dad pulled in the driveway to take me home. I was happy to see them, but I didn’t want to leave. Like when I went to see My Grandma, I don’t understand why peeps can’t just all live in the same place. That way, we could all visit and play together all the time. Can someone please explain that to me?

That’s all I can tell you for now. Mom has to go to work. Maybe tomorrow I can pin her down to write in my blog and tell you about her visit with Piper while I was on vacation.

Lots of wiggles and wags, Lucy.

Lucy’s First Vacation

I went in the car with My Jeff Dad on Monday morning after he had stuffed his gut and didn’t give me any eaten breakfast and packed a whole bunch of stuff in the trunk and on the front and back seats. I got to sit in the back (as usual) on a black and silver colored bed that smelled like another dog. I notice that smell around the house a lot, too, and sometimes I get inspiration from it. You know, great ideas, like to go beg for food at the kitchen table.

Bye Chattanooga
Goodbye Chattanooga. I hope to see you and My Amy Mom again someday. 😦

Since I didn’t even know what a vacation was, I was pretty nervous all day in the car. Where were we going and what would happen if My Amy Mom came home from work and I wasn’t there? I wouldn’t go peepee or drink any water when we stopped, and we seemed to stop a lot.

Lucy in car tongue out
I want to go home.

At the next stop My Jeff Dad pulled off a back road by a really huge field, took me out in the middle of it, and unsnapped my leash. I took this chance to go potty in some bushes. Suddenly, I spotted a rabbit!

Theres a rabbit
You can’t get away from me, you wascally wabbit!

I could have caught the bunny, you know, but it is too close to Easter to take that chance.

After 87 hours, we went into this really huge house with so many smells I couldn’t read all of them, and with lots and lots of bedrooms. Can you believe My Jeff Dad closed me in the bathroom while he went out and feasted on something? I sat on my new bed thinking about how I coulda-shouda caught the rabbit to snack on while he was gone. When he got back, he put my bed next to something called a meer. I could see myself in it, and I wagged my tail and stared at myself for a long time. I then chose to sleep in my very own peeps bed all night long.

Lucy in hotel
For fun, I tried to see if I could blend in with the carpet. (darn red collar)

The next morning My Jeff Dad brought me my own scrambled eggs. This time, I wasn’t nervous when we got in the car. This vacation thing was beginning to seem like a fun thing. I didn’t pant any more and My Jeff Dad figured out that if he took me over to the bushes, I would do my bizness even when he was standing there holding the leash. Then he started explaining to me that I was going to meet my Grandma and that I would love her and she would love me. He also eased my mind by saying we would stay just a few nights, then go back home to Chattanooga and My Amy Mom.

Jeff Dad weren't we supposed to turn there
Hey Jeff Dad, I think you missed your turn. Hey Jeff Dad, did you see that place that smells like hamburgers? Hey Jeff Dad…

It was only day two and My Jeff Dad said I was acting like a seasoned traveller. I’m not sure what that is, but he laughed and said it like it was a good thing.

We finally got to my new Grandma’s house, and she came outside to meet me. I knew she was a person of many years and I was careful not to jump or push against her. I wagged a lot and gently nudged her with my nose. She smiled and petted me and said I am a good dog. I spent most of the evening under her walker, cuddled up against her legs. It’s getting late here in this place called Ill in Noise, so I am going to go sleep on my new bed and dream about wascally wabbits and what fun we will have tomorrow.

Love and wags from Ill in Noise, Lucy.

Pee Ess: Even in Ill in Noise, I heard that my new friend Dory lost her fight with heart disease this week and has gone to the Rainbow Bridge. Her family greatly appreciates all the support they have received from their friends in Blogville. If you haven’t reached out to them, you can go here to do that.
