My First Day at Work

I never knew that puppies had to go to work. Apparently, since Mommy works at a church, I have to start young as a trainee. Maybe some day I will get to work on the ‘puter and help with the church web feet site. For now, I just have to 1. Look cute and 1. Behave myself (I am working on my counting skills.) I got an A+ on both my jobs!

                 How is this for cute?

I got to go outside to watch how Mommy puts letters on a big sign.

I didn’t know work was so much work, and had to take a morning nap.

A lady who told me her name is Beth came into our office place. Her eyes got big and her face lit up and she held me and pet me. I started shaking because I was afraid Mommy was going to give me away. Mommy felt bad and promised me that she would never, ever, cross her heart, give me away. She said I am an important part of the family now and that she and Daddy love me very much.

Then me and Mommy went back outside to eat our lunches. I had some of my real, live, fresh, dead chickie breast.

What are YOU eating, Mommy? That leaf looks like it tastes good.
       Wait, is that a bug?
Can I have some Mommy, Huh, huh? Pleeeease?

I worked hard again after lunch. We went up and down stairs and back and forth in the hallway about 87 times. It was finally time for my afternoon nap, and boy oh boy did I ever need it!

Mommy is very proud of me and I am going to get extra blueberries tonight. I was a very, very, very good girl (and only did my potty outside).

I am Xena, the Schnauzer Warrior Princess

First, a huge THANKS to Annette from A Dog Tales who surprised me with the wonderfully artistic new header. So no one gets left out, I am going to use it when Xena is posting, and use another new one I am making (not nearly as good as this one) when it is Lucy or someone else. Now more woofs from Xena…

I am innocent of all charges, Your Honor.

Woof! Lucy has gotten used to me and is trying to kill me. Really! You have to hear this! I was in the bathroom with my Mommy when Lucy came up and I heard this loud “thump” sound. She had thrown herself at me with her front legs flat on the floor and her bee hind up in the air. I must have jumped 87 inches! Whew. I just got over that scare when Mommy takes us both outside. Lucy is running all over the yard doing zoomies. Next thing I know, she is running straight at me. Yikes! I ducked down and she leaped right over me!! OK, so now that everyone knows (I am finding out this weeby feet thing is useful after all) she will not be able to get away with murder, so she might as well stop trying.

I went on a long car ride again, but not nearly as long as when Mommy adopted me. I met my other peeps brother, Adam. Adam was very nice to me and held me like I was made out of china or crystal, or something else that would break. If Lucy hasn’t broken me yet, I don’t think my peeps brothers will. We went out for milkshakes at a place called Sonic, and there was puppy abuse going on: I didn’t even get one bite! The sun went down before we headed home, and I was a very sleepy Princess Warrior.

Are we there yet?

Oh! Oh! Oh! I have to tell you something else! I love to eat and and always lick my food dish clean, which isn’t news since I am a schnauzer. But Lucy’s food smelled so much better than my puppy kibble. So, you will never guess what I got for supper last night! Chicken! A real, live, raw, dead chickie wing! Mommy held it while I figured out how to chew it properly. Then I got pieces of a real, live, raw, dead chicken boobie. I wouldn’t eat the pumpkin or anything else Mommy gave me…I just wanted more chickie. After that, I thought Mommy’s finger was a chickie wing and tried to eat it. In my defense, it looked a lot the same and was in attached to her hand. So today, Mommy took me outside and let me have another chickie wing; but, this time she let me work on it all by myself while she snoopervised.  I chewed and chewed and chewed some more and I ate the whole thing all by myself. Woof! Then I came in and ate some more chickie boobie and a little bit of coconut oil, but I didn’t want the egg or anything else. Mommy said I get to eat just this one meat pro team for a week, then we can move on to something else. I wonder how long a week will take…

And you know what else? I got to snoopervise right back while Mommy groomed a dog. The doggie’s Mommy is real nice and she held me during the whole groom so that I could see and snoopervise better. Isn’t it funny that doggie’s Mommy and my Mommy have the same name – Mommy?

This whole blogging thing can be very tiring. I have so much more to tell you. *yawn*

I am Xena the Schnauzer Warrior Princess.

Xena the Schnauzer Warrior Princess

Woof! The New Woman tricked me into starting a diary only to put it on something with webby feet for the whole world to read. I’m glad I didn’t say anything embarrassing. Except for the part where I soiled in the kennel. And maybe the part about being afraid. I remembered my note to myself and asked The New Woman what my real name is. I learned two things: 1. The New Woman’s name is “Mommy” and 1. My name is Xena the Schnauzer Warrior Princess. That’s why I’m a little bit embarrassed about being afraid. I don’t think warrior princesses are supposed to be afraid of anything!

The New Woman Mommy has some pictures for everyone to see. I also learned that’s what she is doing when she picks up that thing that she takes with her everywhere and points it at me.

The first night in my new furever home, an inspiration came to me. It was like another, wiser schnauzer was whispering in my ear. I had an uncontrollable urge to stand on The Man while he laid in bed.  Then I felt like I should hit him on his head with my head, but I resisted.

Oh, and I learned The Man is called Daddy. So, now I live with Lucy and Mommy and Daddy. There is another dog here who is even bigger than Lucy, but he is ignoring me and won’t even tell me his name. That’s OK, I have enough new stuff to deal with right now anyhow. I’ve had my brekkies and pottied and it’s raining, so I think I will *yawn* take a nap on Mommy’s lap now. Tomorrow I’ll tell you mo…zzzzz.

Happy National Black Dog Day!

Thanks to Mia the Pibble for including Lucy in her great Black Dog Day post!

pibblelife's avatarIt's a Pibble's Life!

It’s October 1st and that means it’s National Black Dog day! What a great pet holiday to bring awareness to all the black dogs out there and help break the stereotype!

IMG_8719 (1)

Why on earth would black dogs have their own holiday you ask? Did you know that black dogs are one of the hardest dogs to find homes for? It’s true! On top of that..if you’re a black dog and a bully breed (or any breed considered “dangerous”) finding a forever home could be an impossible mission!

FullSizeRender

Reasons for potential adopters overlooking black dogs could be superstitions, negative labels or fear. Lots of humans are scared of me when they see me walking in the off leash trails or even on the street when I am on leash! They look at me like I am going to jump up and attack them (maybe with kisses!..). I don’t know why anyone…

Snuggle Saturday

Dad was in his spot on the couch, cuing up some funny SNL videos from You Tube. Riley took Mom’s spot. Then I took my regular spot. Then Mom squeezed in sat next to Dad. That made it so I could touch everybody all at the same time.

Mom and I shared the otto man.

I was so happy I had to give Mom lots of kissies.

        I love you, Mom.

Subscript from Riley: “I was here first. Stop touching me. Fine, I’ll go lay on the rug.”

It was still a good evening.

Love and wiggles, Lucy

Foodie Friday

Mom bought pork ribs and froze them for two weeks to make them safe for me to eat. They are ready now, and what do we eat with pork? Sauerkraut! I tried it for the first time this week and all I can woof is YUM! (I had an apple core, too, but I ate that from Mom’s hand as my appie tizer.

Before…feed me, feed me, feed me!
                                    During…nom, nom, nom

I gobble up my coconut oil first. It’s my favorite. I even like the pre- and pro-biotic pills Mom drops in it. I know they are good for me, too.

                                   After…can I please have more?

Riley surprised us all by eating sauerkraut from Mom’s hand. (He’s a very picky eater.) He didn’t eat the sauerkraut she put in his bowl, though, so when I got back in the house I ran over and helped him out with that.

I love my raw diet.

A Groom and a Birthday Gift

On Monday, Mom got her two original neighborhood dogs in for a grooming touch-up. I’ve told you about Dora the shih-tzu and Maggie the schnauzer here.  Last week she got another new pup in, a beagle mix named Bella. Bella was scared of my Mom and very anxious, so her Dad stayed during the first part of the groom. That’s why Mom didn’t get a “before” picture. Her Dad wanted her to look like the beagle he paid for when she was a puppy, instead of a terrier with hair sticking out every which way, so Mom shaved her and this is how she looks now. As you can see, Bella was still kinda’ scared, even after Mom sprinkled her magic dust on her.

Before Maggie and Dora came on Monday to be groomed, Mom decided to try out her birthday present from my peeps brother, Andrew. She had been complaining about how dirty the furniture was, so he gave her some more work thing to help with that. She un-boxed her new Rug Doctor, read the instructions, and gave it a try.

Andrew told her to push harder on the head to make it work better.

Then Riley came by and said, “You missed a spot.”

When Mom gave up quit got done, she looked at the dirty water and said, “Cr–p, I don’t know if that’s dirt or part of the chair!”

I think it’s time for me to go outside and chew on my bone for a while.

All About Mom

Mom is so good to me, I don’t mind if she gets a special day or two. But why wasn’t I included? Saturday was Mom’s birthday, and here’s what happened.

First, Dad made waffles for him and Mom and gave her a real pretty card that almost made her cry. Sheesh, Dad, don’t make Mom cry on her birthday! When they were done eating breakfast, he packed up his horn and “gig bag” (whatever that is) (not important, doesn’t smell of food) and whisked Mom away in the car to a place called the Tennessee Aquarium. Sweet Georgia Sound Big Band were set up to play outside the aquarium. It is a touristy area where people walk around or get pushed in strollers or wheelchairs or ride scooters or get carried on their dads’ backs or in their mom’s arms…any way they can get around. Mom didn’t take pictures because she locked her phone in her purse in her car’s trunk. Umm, I’m glad she doesn’t lock me in the car’s trunk! Anyhow, there was another ballroom dancer named Donald there and they danced together a lot right there in the sunshine. (I wasn’t there to dance with them)  There was a 12 year old schnauzer wearing a Tennessee Vols shirt there, and Mom kept getting her “schnauzer fix.” The band leader announced two times that it was my Mom’s birthday and people came by and said, “Happy Birthday!” to her. Dad said it also gave him something called a pass to come out of the band and dance a foxtrot and a rumba with Mom. Some band friends were in town and met them there after the “gig.” The all visited a while (without me), before Dad whisked Mom away again to a part of town called The Bluffview Arts District(No, I didn’t get to go there, either.)

In The Arts District there are museums and restaurants. The restaurants are all grouped together, like in the collages that Mom makes for my blog. Except they aren’t quite that close together. They all have outdoor seating because it is such a beautiful area, overlooking parts of Chattanooga as well as the Tennessee River.

It wasn’t quite 5 o’clock, so they first went to Tony’s Pasta and Mom made Dad’s mouth hang open when she said she wanted to sit inside ’cause she was so hot. He wanted proof it was really my Mom. She told me that my Dad wanted to make it a super special day, and loves her so much that he would sit outside with her  without complaining ’cause he knows she always wants to be outside. But she also knew my Dad was suffering from the heat, so she also did it for him. (I would have waited outside for them, but I wasn’t invited.) All they ordered were salads and gluten-free flatbread to dip in olive oil with reggiano parmesan cheese. And wine. Mmm, wine. I tasted it once and it is good.  So, during the hour they were there, Mom didn’t remember to take even one picture. Side note: Angel Lexi got to eat there one October, so maybe they will take me next month and I will remind Mom to take pictures.

Then they walked over to  The Back Inn Cafe, where they got their main meal. It is described like this: Elegant Colonial Revival mansion setting features seasonal, globally inspired cuisine & wine.

The steak was a juicy medium rare and delicious (wait, please, while I wipe my drool on the furniture) and too big to finish, so Mom brought half of it home. It’s in the fridge, but I can’t open the door. By this time they had both cooled off, so they sat outside. The top picture shows the TN river, and the bottom picture is the bakery that supplies the three restaurants. The same family – the Patera’s –  owns it all. Mom said their waiter was super. Dad listed all his food allergies for him, and the chef changed the recipe and sides on Dad’s salmon so it wouldn’t hurt him.

With bellies full (and my belly was at home, empty), they strolled over to Rembrandt’s where they got dessert. Now, does this make sense? Oh, Mom says it would make perfect sense to a schnauzer.

So that was Saturday. Sunday, they came home early from early church and started cleaning. Dad even ran the vacula. The food in the crockpot had my tummy growling, then more food started cooking in the oven. Pretty soon, my soon-to-be friends came to our house and, after lots of hugs and the obligatory house tour, they all sat down at the dining room table for a feast. Riley and I got put outside. At least I got a bone. When Riley got stuck out there with me, I stayed under the table so he couldn’t get my bone. There has to be a limit to sharing, even with your boyfriend, right?

Later – when the food was all gone – we were allowed back in. The Man loved me and kept petting me. I wanted to show them how Riley and I play, so I started jumping at Riley and biting his face and he started growling at me and biting my face and we were having a great time. I thought the Man would be very impressed, until Mom grabbed us and put us in separate bedrooms. After my new friends left, I spent the rest of the evening with Riley and Andrew, watching stuff on TV in their bedroom. And there ends my story of neglect Mom’s Birthday Weekend.

Lucy’s Summer Vacation

Today I am joining my friends in Blogville to tell what I did on my summer vacation. You can visit everyone else by going to Mayor Arty’s blog and clicking on the link. My mom is too stupid busy to know how to put the linky link on my blog.

On my summer vacation, I…

did NOT get to ride on the pontoon boat like Angel Lexi used to – Mom sold it. Or…

star in a play like Angel Lexi used to. Or…

run for mayor like, well, you know. Or…

even start a new career making other dogs look pretty, like my Mom does.

But I DID…

Go with my Dad to visit my Lucy looking up at grandma croppedGrandma.

Sunshine and Grass

On Friday the sun was shining and the grass was long.  I decided to enjoy hiding in our front yard to spy on what was happening there and in the street and in the neighbor’s yard across the street and in the woods next to the house and everywhere I can see.

Lucy in grass collage

Sadly, I have nothing of interest to report. Today, the sun is still shining but the grass is short, so it isn’t as much fun. I will let you know if anything interesting happens.

Pee S: That’s our driveway behind me. The road is a long way down the hill, and I have learned to always stay in our yard, up near the house. I am compliant, ’cause I like to be called a “good girl.”

Back to Work and More Grooming, Too

First my exciting news…Mom took me to work today! I don’t know if I got my job back or if she just felt sorry that I have been home alone this week. Riley has been gone with Andrew to I-don’t-know-where, so two whole days while Mom and Dad were at work. I want you to know I was a very, very good dog today. I only pottied outside. I greeted everyone with wiggles and a few licks.

I got to be outside in the church’s big yard a lot.

I dug a hole in the grass that was planted last fall. Mom had to fix it. It was just a small hole, so I don’t know what the problem was.

I just want to see everyone, Mom.

It was a busy day, so towards the end of the day I laid in the hallway outside of Mom’s office to ensure I got belly rubs from everyone. I didn’t want anyone to feel left out. Everyone said I was beautiful and they loved my brindle color. One person said she has a Siamese cat named Lucy and another lady said she has a King Charles Spaniel named Lucy. It was a Lucy kind of day! Exactly at 4:30 I stood up and told Mom it was time to go home. She looked at me kind of weird and said the spirit of Lexi must be resting on me. I really don’t know what that meant, or why I suddenly sensed it was time to go home. It just felt right.

Now, I want to tell you about the dog Mom groomed last Friday. Her name is Sophie and she is supposed to be a shih Tzu. Mom thinks she is a Shih Tzu-Maltese cross. The first and last time Mom groomed Sophie was January of 2015. She was an extremely matted mess then, and was again this time, too. Mom de-matted her and cut her hair with the scissors. It took Mom three hours.

I am going to let my secretary Mom finish up now so she can go make doggie cookies. I might even save some for Riley.

Oh, and I was dog tired last night after my hard day of work at the church.

I think I am too tired to walk to the bedroom, Mom.

Slow Day and Grooms

0828171157-1

0826171917-1

Today is Monday. That means it is Slow Day. Mom calls it my Fast Day, but believe me, there is nothing fast about it. I don’t get to eat anything until supper time. I’m just going to chew my bully horn and look pitiful until then. And dream about what I will get for supper.

We had two grooms scheduled for 11:00 this morning. Then, at 9:00 another lady with two dogs texted to say she was on her way. Mom had forgotten to write it down! She had to hurry and push the 11:00 grooms back to noon. I have shown you pictures of them before when they were here. Laila is on the left.

This time, there was a surprise when the lady showed up with Laila and Louis. Laila looked like this, but that wasn’t the surprise.

0828170910a-1

Now she looks like this! Notice anything? I mean, besides Mom shaved her and she’s still happy?

0828171056c-1

Yep, she got knocked up. Where’d I hear that kind of language, Mom? Well…I don’t know…how about, she is in a delicate condition? Just say she is going to have puppies? OK. Laila is going to have puppies and the blessed event should happen on September 6. He, he.

Here’s the culprit, er, guy who, er, the Daddy:

Lucy with Dog Hair

This afternoon, Lucy with dog hairwhile I was minding my own business, half laying in the sun – which is very appropriate for a SUNday afternoon – this is the conversation going on around me: (Mom= pink, Dad=blue, Me=whatever this color is.

Lucy has dog hair on her.

Of course she does, she’s a dog.

No, I mean it isn’t her hair.

Then whose hair is it?

It’s Riley’s. This place is a dog hair pit.

Mom, what are you doing?

I took a picture of you in front of the chair whose leg you chewed the third week you lived here…and we still kept you.

Let me see that picture. Oh no, it makes my butt look big. Don’t let Riley see it.

The things I put up with.

Post-eclipse

There were no zombies. Or flesh-eating bacteria. Or anything else gross. Just an eerie twilight. The house got so dark we couldn’t move around without bumping into things – Mom didn’t think about turning on lights in the house at 2:30 in the afternoon. But outside it looked like that magical time of day, the time when the sun has transitioned below the horizon but there is still some light left in the air. The time when we look out the window to see if there are any tiny fairies dancing in our yard or unexplained movements in the woods around our house. The time when the last twinkle of diamonds disappears from the ripples on the lake. It’s Mom’s favorite time of the day. But yesterday, the sun wasn’t dipping below the horizon; it was almost directly overhead. Mom took some pictures of the sun (without looking right at it), as well as a couple of the house to track the change in the amount of light. Mom forgot to switch the phone camera from auto, so the two of the house look the same and don’t show the dimness of the light. In these pictures, the position of the sun in the sky means nothing more than Mom didn’t notice where she had the sun framed, since she wasn’t looking at it.

Dad took a slo-mo video, but he isn’t sharing yet. Oh, OK Mom. She said Dad is too busy at work. We’ll see how that turns out and show it to you if it’s any good.

In the meantime, to add some real interest, here are two pictures of things me and Riley do that Mom thinks is odd or funny. I like to hold paws/hands with Mom. And Riley likes to slither off the couch, sometimes stopping midway.

When Last We Met…

(This was supposed to be published 30 minutes before the eclipse, but I must not have hit the “publish” key hard enough – Lucy’s typist)

Mom said she would help me tell ya’ll what happened over the weekend while we wait for the solar eclipse. Mom didn’t get us any solar eclipse glasses, so we can’t exactly watch it. But Mom said it’s more fun to wait and see if anything strange happens, like if any zombies come out while it’s dark in the middle of the day. She promises to post pictures tomorrow that Dad is taking – that is, if we still have our brains.

When last we met, my brother Andrew had driven off and my pawrents were packing to leave (me). I was worried what was going to happen (to me). Well, here’s what happened:

On Thursday, Mom had me hop in the back seat of the car and took me to work. Woohoo! It was the day the peeps come in for paper food or vows to get food, or something like that. Anyhoo, I was able to make lots of people smile, and I think my Angel Sis was smiling, too. 🙂 Oh this is a picture of me exhausted from working so hard. The volunteer who gives the people paper is sitting behind the desk, but didn’t really want to be in the picture. Aren’t peeps silly?

You will never guess what happened next…Mom said I was going on vacation! She took me to my friend Ms. Martha ‘s house, where I vacationed earlier this year. Mom had my vacation bag all packed with my raw food and snacks. I was so excited, ’cause I just knew Ms. Martha and I were going to have a great time together. Ms. Martha had already made me doggie cookies. Mom told her that the oatmeal in them would make me run Ms. Martha out of the house, and then pointed to a spot under my tail. I have no idea what she meant, but I didn’t get the cookies.

I explored a bit before I went in for my supper. I went back outside and was still feeling a bit hungry so I grazed on some grass while watching for critters.

PicMonkey Collage

The next day I house sat for Ms. Martha while she was gone to a meeting. I did a good job and got some apples and blueberries for dessert. Can you see my ninja eyes in the first picture? That evening I guarded the back yard from the porch, where it is safe. I also met some new people who came with a loud machine that cut off all the grass so I couldn’t eat any more of it.

PicMonkey Collage (1)

After breakfast on Saturday I took a nap in the sun. I had to rest up for my visit with my pals Jax and Brody later that day.  We played and played until we were all worn out. The next day I laid in the front yard working on my bone while I waited for Mom and Dad to come and get me.

Lucy at Marthas collage 3

Now I’m back home after a good vacation. It’s nice to be with my Mom and Dad again! I hope to be back tomorrow with my brains still in my head and pictures to show you.

Here and Gone Again by Lucy

Early in the morning last Friday, right after Mom gave me my breckies, she packed the car and left. She took both my peeps brothers and my Auntie Jen – who I had just met! – with her. 87 hours later she sent this picture to Dad’s phone to let him know she got to wherever she was going:

Dad said Mom went to a place called Floorida. So here I was with no Mom, and Riley with no Dad. Dad replied to Mom with this picture of poor pitiful us. I wonder if it made her want to come home.

Dad claimed to be sad and neglected too, but I think it was just to make us feel better. After all, he did fix this for his supper:

And finished up with this:

Mom didn’t send any food pictures, but she did send some restaurant pictures to Dad. Everyone but Mom ate a lot of alligator. They said it tastes like chicken. I wonder where I can get me some alligator…

After 87 days, Mom came back home. I think it was Sunday. Now both Mom and Dad are packing their suitcases. And brother Andrew just left. I am worried. Who is going to feed me? And pet me? I am not going to let Mom out of my sight!

I will let you know if I survive.

Lucy and Riley at the Vet

A week or two ago – I have trouble keeping up with time – Dad took me and my beau Riley to the vet. I had bumps on my upper lip and under my chin.  Mom had already asked Mr. Google, but didn’t think what I had looked like that pappy stuff. Concerned about tumors, my pawrents decided a vet visit was in order. Since Riley was almost due for his vaccinations, and had been scratching himself silly over fleas he got at someone else’s house, and had been off of heartworm protection all summer, Dad made him go too.

First it was my turn. This was a different vet for me. Dad said Dr. Karen was the lady who took good care of Lexi and gave her a cute puncture for whatever was wrong with her leg. Dr. Karen does a lot of what’s called East Turn medicine, and her husband is a dogtor there too for everything not East Turn. Everyone was so nice to me and I was very, very good. Turns out I really do have that pappy stuff, so Dr. Karen told Dad to just give me some L-Lysine pills for a month or two and it would go away. Then it was Riley’s turn. I am embarrassed to tell you  what he did. OK, I am going to tell you anyway. Oh, and Dad wasn’t able to get any pictures. You’ll understand why in a moment. Instead, I am borrowing some pictures from Mr. Google to illustrate my point.

First, Riley begged them not to do anything to him.

Then, Riley saw the tech pick up a needle and he screamed like a banshee.

Riley got so worked up that my Dad told them to put a muzzle on him. My guy is strong, and he was throwing himself all over the room with all his strength to try to get away.
My Dad and three vet techs were holding him to try to steal some blood, and the lady with the needle still stuck herself instead of Riley. I was like…

I just didn’t know what to think. They finally got some of Riley’s blood and he doesn’t have any heartworms. I sure hope they tested his blood, and not the vet tech’s.

Then it started all over again when the tech got the rabies shot ready. And once again, I was like…

Everyone was relieved that he wasn’t getting any more shots. Later, while we laid in bed and watched TV with Andrew, I asked Riley why he acted like that. He said, “I don’t know what you’re talking about, woman.”

I am sure I didn’t imagine it… right Dad?

Grooming With(out) Lucy

I’ve given up. Mom’s never going to let me groom dogs. A couple of weeks ago she got a 15 year old miniature poodle dog named Muffy in to groom. Do you think Mom let me help? Right. Mom forgot to get a “before” picture, but she remembers thinking that under all that hair there has to be a poodle. It took her two hours to find the poodle, though. Muffy is also a screamer. Speaking of screaming, I can hardly wait for Mom to let me tell you what Riley did at the vet. (he, he)

This morning Mom did a mini-groom on Dora the shih Tzu and Maggie the schnauzer. I’ve told you about them before.

Then a newer client asked if Mom could groom Daisy, her cockapoo. Of course Mom said, “Come on!” and there was one more dog I didn’t get to groom. *sad sigh*  Daisy will be one year old next month and her Mom is planning her a birthday party. I bet she would have been tons of fun to play with. Oh, wait. Maybe that’s why Mom won’t let me groom.
