Chia: First, thanks to Brian for hosting Brian’s Thankful Thursday! And I am thankful to Angel Sammy for the fun picture this week, too.

Who are you, you little fox
With freckled nose and cute white sox?
D’you come to bite or steal my food?
You gonna be here, you better be good!

Not a fox am I, said she,
I’m just a little dog, you see,
Who got real lost in these deep woods
And now need shelter, heat and foods.

My trailer’s small, built just for one…
I think you’ll fit, you look like fun
So first we’ll eat some fish and fruit
Then get some sleep…you’re awfully cute!

Then when the early morning comes
Will you please take me home to Mom?
I love with all my heart to run
But losing Mom is never fun.

I’ll take you home to Mom, sweet pup.
But now I’d like to pick you up
And hold you so you’re not afraid.
Tomorrow you’ll be home again.

Chia: I am real thankful that I have a great Mom and Dad who love me and helped me to be a better pup. Every time brother Andrew and his girlfriend Jentry come over they comment on how changed I am and how good I am. They love me now, too! *wags all over*

Selfie Sunday at RocktoberFest

Hi friends! Xena here. It’s my turn to do my Sunday Selfie — oh yes, thank you Kitties Blue for hosting it — and I was supposed to do a boring old selfie with a quiz to see how well you know me. But I got to go to the first RocktoberFest of the season at Rock City yesterday, and I want to share that with you instead. It’s lots more fun! I’ll woof Mommy into letting me do my original Selfie Sunday next week, OK?

It’s been two whole years since I was there; they didn’t have the festival cause of COVID. I was only three years old then, and the band scared me when they played. Guess what? I wasn’t scared at all this time!

It was a little chilly on Lookout Mountain so I wore my sweater under my harness most of the morning. I liked listening to the music and to Daddy announce the songs, saying funny things about them. I wanted to run out to him, but Mommy kept me in her lap. Then something smelled really bad.

At first I thought Mommy pooted, then I realized it was her Octoberfest beer. Ick.

We took a walk around the park, and Mommy had to go into the little girl’s room. That was my first time in a place like that. Did you know that they sprinkle crumbs of Tostitos on the floor? Oh my, they’re good!

When we got back to the pavilion, I had a run-in with a chicken. Well, at least with its head.

Does this chicken head belong to anyone? I don’t like the way it’s looking at me.

Then Mommy danced a little bit with me, but I was more interested in checking under the tables for food. Later, while Daddy was announcing one of the songs, he held me and told everyone I am a schnauzer, a German dog who came for the good food and good music.

Too bad I didn’t get much more of the good food, although I got my first little taste of fudge. It was great! Then I was declared the official band dog, so I got my picture taken with the band.

Can you see me there right up front? I could see all the other dogs from there. I bet they wished they were me!

That pretty much covers it. Anyhoo, if I have to post a selfie, I choose the picture with me covering my nose, BOL!

Ludwig

Lucy: Hey Xena, have you heard anything from Ludwig since he left in such a hurry with Mr. Eleephant?

Xena: What do you mean? Why would I hear from him? He was just going to visit his pawrents in New York City, right? What could he possibly want to tell me?

Lucy: Oh, I don’t know, maybe about all his shenanigans since he left. I googled him, and it seems he has a wild side we didn’t know about. You’d better sit down. Sit, Xena, sit!

This was the first picture that popped up with his name.

Doesn’t this look like Ludwig going into that club?

Xena: Well, it’s dark out and it’s from the back. Really, it could be anyone. Besides, Mr. Eleephant isn’t with him, and Ludwig’s supposed to be taking care of him.

Lucy: I found this one in the Tattler.

That’s the Australian model Shanina Shaik he’s with there.

Xena: He was probably just passing her by on the sidewalk on his way home to check on Mr. Eleephant.

Lucy: Paparazzi don’t take pictures of someone just passing someone else by, Xe. Here’s another one.

Look how that woman is looking at Ludwig. She seems to be enjoying his company. And he’s smiling pretty big, too.

Xena: But, but, I’m sure they were all just going the same direction. Or maybe they are nurses he’s taking home to help care for Mr. E.

Lucy: Yeah, he probably is taking them home… I’ve got one more. Wanna see it?

Xena: *hangs head* No, but go ahead and show me.

Lucy: Ludwig is helping to DJ at a rave.

A short while later

Xena: Daddy, I need you to help me write a note to Ludwig.

That’s a good one Daddy. OK, now tell him about the big party we had and sorry he wasn’t around, and there were lots and lots of nice boy dogs there who liked me. And that I’m going away the end of the month to a big bash in Nashville. No, he doesn’t need to know it’s Aunty Jen’s birthday, or that I’m staying at her house while you and Mommy and all the peeps go dancing. Oh, and be sure to tell him I’m looking forward to seeing a certain really big boy dog there. And, and, oh just make up some more stuff.

Adam’s Birthday with Us

Last weekend our peeps brother Adam came over and spent the night so we could celebrate his birthday together. You might remember Adam from when he helped plant the hostages . We were so excited to see him! Adam goes outside and sits on the patio a lot so he can blow stinky smoke out of his mouth. Regardless, we like to go out with him, at least until it gets too hot, even for us. On Sunday, our other peeps brother Andrew was supposed to come over for pizza and to visit and to celebrate ~~his~~ our brother’s birthday. Mommy told him 5:00, but to try to come early if he could. We all decided that ~~when~~ if he came early that Mommy would order the pizza and we could eat then. We all got pretty hungry.

Adam got so hungry that he ate a bowl of cereal. Mommy said she would wait until 4:30, then order the pizza. Before she went to get it, me and Lucy asked her if we could eat just a little early so that she wouldn’t have to, you know, interrupt the celebration or so that – good God forbid – the pizza get cold while she was preparing our dinner. She saw the wisdom in this and got our supper ready. We thought she would be in a big hurry to get out the door to get the hot pizza with pepperoni, mushrooms and double cheese *drool* and not make us “Wait!” for our supper. Yeah, like that was gonna happen.

Mom: “FREE!”

As soon as we gobbled down our suppers, Mommy headed out the door to pick up the Dominoes pizza – Adam’s favorite. By the time she got back, Andrew had arrived and everyone gobbled down their suppers. Then came the DQ ice cream cake!

Adam made his wish, and I think he probably wished for a schnauzer like me. He couldn’t tell or it might not come true.

The celebration continued the next day with lobster and shrimp and steak – all of Adam’s very favorite foods. Everyone was too busy ~~stuffing their faces~~ enjoying their meals to think about sharing with the poor pups in the house. We did get some ice cream cake. That was our first time ever to get ice cream or frosting or cake. Now I know why the peeps keep it all for themselves!

Adam and Andrew have both gone to their own homes, and we are waiting to see what else happens this week!

Time with My Daddy

I’ve been thinking about my birthday coming up on the first official day of summer – June 21. I know boxes have been delivered from Amazon that Mommy has whisked away without letting me see what’s in them. I think it’s going to be a good birthday.

I’ll be two years old. But I’ve also been wondering if that means I’m all grown up and what changes I need to make. Should I stop saying “Mommy” and “Daddy” and instead say “Mom” and “Dad”? Do I still get to spend time in Dad(dy)’s lap?

And sleeping between Mommy and Daddy at night?

Mom said that me at the table reminded her a lot of Angel Lexi.

I wonder how old I will have to be to get my own seat at the table like Angel Lexi. There’s just so many things to think about now that I’m almost two.

Relax, Xena, you’ll know what to do. Everything will come in it’s own time. You will make new friends like I did with Spike here. You still have a lot to learn, and lots more treats to eat. And it doesn’t really matter what you call our folks, they will always love you, until the end of the world.

Wow, it’s so wonderful to have a Guardian Angel as great as Lexi. She helps me a lot. Now I’m thinking about last week when it was just me and Daddy -well, and Lucy -at home alone. I saw a little white moth flying over my head, like it was saying “Hello.” I looked up at it and watched it go past, like the schnauzer in the picture on the yard flag Mommy got.

Then the little white moth flew over Lucy to say hello, and Lucy looked up too – and ate it! So far the score is Lucy-2, lizard – 0, moth – 0.

And now I’m thinking about the times lately that Lucy and I have been watching out the window and started howling together. We stop, look at each other to decide whether to continue, and usually let out one more good howl. Daddy might have recorded the last one. I’ll ask him to give it to me to show you soon. So maybe I don’t have to change anything. Maybe new things will just come while other things stay the same, just like my Angel Lexi said. I think I will just relax and go on to Freestyle practice with Mommy.
