Lucy’s Not-so good Selfie Sunday

Thanks to The Cat on My Head for hosting Sunday selfies. But I wish it wasn’t my selfie.

Yep, this is my stupid selfie. I’m wearing ghost lights, and I think the spirits of the ghosts are hovering around me. It’s all very Halloweenish. And if that wasn’t enough Chia photo-bombed me.

This was at 7:00 in the morning for our early morning walk. I was supposed to be lighting the way. Why couldn’t Mom just wear her flashy sash with the lights she turns on in the dark so we don’t get run over by any cars. (There’s no sidewalks on our street.)

The day just continued to get worse. Around noon, Mom took all three of us to the Greenway, which is a great big space about 15 minutes from our house. It has lots and lots of trails as well as open spaces and even two dog parks. But they require us dogs to stay on our leashes if we’re not in the dog park. We walked for almost an hour before Mom realized that it was a dead end without so much as a side trail to take as a shortcut back. The whole way there and back Chia kept pulling hard on her leash. Mom kept correcting her, and that scared me. So I started hanging back and Mom had to pull on my leash just to keep me walking. In other words, Chia was pulling her forward and I was pulling her backward, and then Xena got tired and was panting and wanted carried. Finally, Mom dropped my leash and told me just to walk with her. I didn’t. I sat down and let everyone else keep going. Mom was almost out of sight when she yelled back, “Goodbye, Lucy.” Oh no! She was really going to leave me! I got up and trotted to try to catch up, then changed my mind and stopped again. Mom finally came back and got me. Whew. I was so confused! She said she’s never taking all of us at the same time again. Never. Not ever. Not unless someone else is with her to help.

When we got home I went to hide in the bedroom closet.

Mom found me. But she let me stay there as long as I wanted. I didn’t stay too long. It was close to supper time.

That was Friday. Today is better. Happy Sunday, everyone. *wags* Lucy

Nature Friday: Xena’s Birthday Walk

We are joining Arty, Jakey and Rosy of the LLB Gang for Nature Friday, and thank them for hosting it.

If you missed it, my birthday was on Sunday. You can still send Happy’s and treats if you want. I won’t be upset that they’re late. *woof*

Early in the afternoon on Sunday Mommy drove me to a new-to-us park that we’d heard about that is only a mile away from our house. When we got there, the only road we could find into the tiny park was closed off at both ends. There were about seven people in the pool, and a sign that said road was closed when the pool was open. What the friggin heck? Sorry, I’m starting to pick up some bad habits like swearing now that I’m three years old. That’s legal age in dog years, you know. Speaking of which, Mommy got an adult beverage yesterday and I almost knocked it over trying to drink some and it splashed out onto the table, and Mommy made me get off her lap. What the heck? I’m adult legal now! *sigh* After she cleaned it all up, I got a belly rub instead, and that was good.

So anyhow, since we couldn’t get into this micro-park, we went on down to the greenway where the dog-park-that-we-don’t-go-to is and where there is a very long dog-on-leash walking trail. Mommy said we could go as fast or as slow as I wanted and I could stop to sniff whenever I wanted cause it was my birthday! First I went in the nice green grass on the other side of this building and bridge, and Mommy said, “Uh, Xexe, you missed the trail. Would you like to go over there so we can take a longer walk?”

Wasn’t that nice she gave me a choice? I think being given a choice shows that Mommy thinks I’m grown up now, even if she won’t let me have an adult drink. So I said yes, let’s see what’s on the other side of the bridge.

At first we walked down a gravel path, which soon became just dirt. We reached this fork in the road.

Mommy told me about a Mr. Frost writing a poem about a road that was less traveled and did I want to take that one. I thought about it and decided there must be a good reason it’s less traveled, like maybe there are lions or snakes or monsters or crocodiles down there, so I said no, let’s go down the wide path.

Soon we came to a meadow that was off to the side of the wide dirt path. I took my time and sniffed the grass and the clover.

They were the only flowers we saw on this trip, so if you were expecting flowers, sorry.

Pretty soon we came into a sunnier area with a lot of big rocks. Rocks are nature too, right? More sniffing to do. I think maybe a giant had broken a boulder over his knee and this was what was left of it.

I stopped again to sniff along the edge of the trail where there were some green plants until I heard the warning, “No, there’s poison ivy in there!” So I backed away and continued on the path. Poison ivy is nature we don’t want to experience! We passed several other walkers and joggers and some people, too, and I didn’t bark at anyone!

Next, we saw some slimy, muddy water. Guess what I did!

I know you think I went in it, BOL, but nope, I was a good girl and behaved like I was three years old. This is icky nature.

Soon we came almost to the light at the end of the (tree) tunnel.

I was busy inspecting these big tree roots when Mommy suggested we turn around and go home. I didn’t want to until she said she had a cold treat surprise waiting for me. We couldn’t make cold treat surprises wait on a hot day, could we?!

Maybe we’ll come back soon with Daddy and Lucy and try the road less traveled.

Check, Check, Check: A Good Day

Hi friends, Lucy here. After yesterday, I was hoping for a good day today. I mean, yesterday wasn’t all bad. Xena and I went to the vet and I made all kinds of new friends. Everyone pet me and a policeman and a lady both wanted to take me home with them. The bad part was when a lady who works there stuck a needle in my front leg and stole my blood. It hurt, but I was very good. Mom explained that they will send my blood to Canada to get a DNA heart worm test done. That kind of test lets them know if there is even the beginning of a tiny heart worm growing inside me, and if there is, one shot will kill it. Xena had the same thing done, and she was mostly good about it, too. Anyhow, that’s why we don’t have to take heart worm prevention pills. We did get pretty bandages on our legs.

Wait…we gave them our blood, and you have to pay them?

Anyhow, today was a much better day. We got up and had real good brekkies. Good brekkies – check!

Mom made time to take us for a walk before she went to work. Morning walk – check!

Just before Mom left, she gave us each a treat puzzle. Mmmmm. Xena got a new one for her birthday last month, so she gave me her old one. I don’t even care that she chewed it up a little. I still love having it. Treat puzzle – check!

Later, after Mom got home, she took us for a second walk, and we had lots of mischievous fun. Afternoon walk – check!

Do you see my NPR leash? Did you know that stands for National Public Radio?
Read neighborhood pee mail. check!
Read more pee mail – check!
Sniff Xena’s bee-hind when she can’t do anything about it. – check!

This is Lucy, with a check mark by all the good things on my list.

A Walk with My Mom

Mom and I went for a walk all by ourselves today, ’cause Lucy and Riley were napping with Andrew. It was 75F/22C degrees warm and partly sunny, as the weatherman would say. I got to wear my second brand new, not from Goodwill, cuteness vest. It’s soft and comfy on me, and may give me a “buy” for my next ax ee dent.

We successfully made it to the bottom of the driveway. Now, who decides which way to go? We could go that away…

Or this away.

We decided to go this away. Oooo, good smells on the road.

I’m being good and not doing bunny hops or twirls. Lucy would be proud.

Wait, what’s that in the grass?

I see you Mr. Bug. Come on out of there.

We turned around and the other way, so it was almost like I had two walks. At the corner I found the Neighborhood Central Pee Mail Station. Before heading home, we spent some time there getting caught up on what is going on in the local news.

We’re home, Mommy and I was good! I was good! Are you gonna’ tell Lucy? Huh? Huh?

Oh. You said, “Sit.”
