Lucy and Snow

*shiver* I’m just thinking about how cold that snow is that I have to walk in to go potty! It started right on time at eight o’clock this morning. After about an hour Mom took me and Xena out to do our busyness in the front yard.

You can see there wasn’t much snow, but neither of us would go walking in it to do what we needed to do! A little while later Mom suited up Chia and out we went again.

None of us still would go far enough in it to do our busyness. Chia wouldn’t even come off the top step, not even to run down and say hi to the neighbor folks walking their Jack Russel mix. This is Chia’s first snow!

A few hours later there were three or four inches of snow on the ground.

I finally made the snow yellow. I know this isn’t a big deal to most of our friends. But we haven’t had any snow since Chia came to live with us three years ago. Our driveway, as you can see, is downhill, and the exit from our subdivision is downhill too, where you have to turn right or the other direction on a busy two lane highway. So pretty much no one goes anywhere when it’s like this, and most businesses close. Even Mom and Dad’s monthly dance cancelled for tonight — not that they were venturing out in this anyhow!

Chia found bare ground under the living room’s overhang and she did what she had to there.
I finally said enough is enough. I want to go in the house and curl up somewhere warm and without this cold, wet, white stuff.

I fell on my face coming up those snowy stairs. That’s why I have snow on my nose! Don’t worry, though, I’m OK.

Hoping all y’all are safe and happy. And thanks to Rosy and Sunny of The LLB Life for hosting this snowy Nature Friday!

Love, Lucy, the birthday month girl!

Psycho Weather Selfie Sunday

Xena: Friday we had a good walk around the neighborhood. It was what Mommy calls “Sweater Weather.” Some of the neighbors’ road-front spring flowers were even blooming.

Mommy wanted to “feature” me and Lucy in front of this little roadside garden area, but we were both too busy sniffing stuff on the road. I know, I know, I’m always the “take my picture” pup, but I swear, promise, there used to be something dead here on the road, and I was too engrossed in figuring out what it was.

Then came Saturday morning. It was still o’dark-thirty when we finished our breakfast and asked to go out, as usual. While we were in the dog lot out back, Mommy took these pictures (without a flash) from the front porch.

Somehow the newly fallen snow reflected enough light (we don’t know where from) that it was like daylight outside. The orange specks in the second and third pictures were lights on houses, not the sun. Believe it or not, these are full color pictures. No one shoveled the walk or drive or road. They were just still too warm for the snow to stick to them. So, if I stood outside in a snowstorm, does that mean the snow wouldn’t stick to me, either?

Chia: The white stuff was just spotty in the dog lot and we just navigated around it. It was my first snow! So Mom clipped a long leash on my collar and let me and my pack out there in the front to really see it. At first I just stood there and looked at it like everyone else. Then I ran into it and turned around and ran right back out of it! Yowzers! No one ‘splained to me what it was or that it was wet and cold. So we all spent the rest of the day snoozin’ and hangin’ out in the house.

Until the snow goes away, I’m hangin’ out with my sister and best friend, Lucy.
Except for when I’m nappin’ with my sister and second best friend, Xena.

Since I stopped being mean to Xena, she’s started playing with me again every morning after breakfast. That’s much more fun than getting stuck in my kennel.

Today’s really cold, but the sky’s clear and most of the white stuff is gone and it’s gonna warm up, so it’s gonna be a good day. Here’s hoping y’all have a good day, too! Oh, and many thanks to  The Cat on My Head  for hosting Sunday Selfies!

Let It Snow

Xena: We almost never get snow around here in SE Tennessee. Maybe a light sprinkling that doesn’t stay on the ground. So, at two and a half, I’ve never seen real snow.

Lucy: At Christmas a couple of years ago, when I took my trip with Dad to visit my grandma in Illinois, I found out all about snow. It’s cold, and sometimes it’s fun to play in. Mom got me a really nice winter coat after that so that I will be warm next time Dad takes me.

So far, I haven’t needed it.

Xena: Do you remember how I kept wishing for snow last year, and then Spring came without Winter leaving even a snowflake in it’s wake? Apparently, wishes sometimes take a while to come true.

Lucy: Mom hadn’t shoveled the walk or the road. It was still too warm to stick there. Pretty soon, though, the walks and roads gave up their battle with the snow.

Xena: As I watched, the snow started to cover the road and our driveway and walkway. The babysitter for the synagogue where Mommy works called and cancelled. The new groom Mommy was getting in called and debated about coming, and asked if Mommy wanted her to. Mommy said it was totally up to her, since she was the one having to drive in this weather. She decided not to come, and we hope she will reschedule for Monday or next Saturday. She’s got a white shih tzu with a deformed front leg. I can’t wait to see her. Her name is Sandy, just like our last name!

Lucy: Hey Xena, do you remember this picture of Angel Lexi from 2011? I think that’s what you’d look like if you went out in this snow.

Lexi: I am not amused.

Hmm, snow sounds over-rated. I think I’ll just take a nap instead.

Disclaimer: We know that many of you get tons of snow all winter long. Please understand that this is a big deal for us. Schools and businesses close, traffic slows to a crawl, and the stores empty of water, bread and milk. We’ve never quite understood that last part, but at least Mom has plenty of food in the house for us!

Memory Monday: Snow, anyone?

Some call this extremely hot August weather the “dog days of summer.” If that’s right, then we have been in the dog days all spring and summer. In these 90+ (F) degree days, sometimes it helps to reminisce about the cooler times. Here in Chattanooga, we hardly ever get snow, but every once in a while…

Can you feel the cool coming on, my friends?
