Clothes! Oh No! by Riley and Lucy

Thanks (we think) to The Cat on My Head, for hosting Sunday Selfies.

Hi friends, it’s me, Riley with what should have been a better picture for Sunday selfie. I like to wear this sweater that my pal Lucy gave me for Christmas last year. But it has a tendency to slide down my back.

I really think Mom Amy should have taken better care to help me wear it properly before she took this picture. Oh well, sometimes you get what you get, right?

Uh, hi, this is Lucy. Y’all may know I don’t like to get my picture taken, not even under the best of circumstances. What if things went wrong and I ended up inside that phone thing? What if bad people who I used to live with recognized me and I had to go back there? (Although both Mom and Dad have assured me that as long as I want to live here in my furever home, they will never let anyone take me from them. But still…) Anyhoo here’s my unwilling picture for Selfie Sunday. Oh, and it was me who messed up the couch cover in hopes it would take the attention away from me.

I guess cause I gave my sweater to Riley, my folks thought that I needed something else to keep me warm. I am so humiliated. But Mom says my name is next to the word compliant in the dictionary, so I do what I’m asked. (Please don’t share.)

We love you, Mom, and don’t really blame you. We really hope Santa Paws still comes (and that he forgets to bring us clothes).

Xena’s Sunday Selfie – Again

Thanks to The Cat on My Head, for hosting Sunday Selfies. We love you guys!

I was the chosen one for a Sunday selfie this week. The trouble was, when I got the news I was in baby hold in Mommy’s lap, surrounded by a soft, warm blankie and Rainy the Reindeer, and I could hear the gentle beating of Mommy’s heart.

Even so, I’m never one to turn down a selfie. Shoot, if I’d known sooner, I’d of asked Mommy to comb my face and leg feathers. Oh well. The bigger problem was me starting to fall off to sleep.

Well, I hope this will do and that you still like my selfie…

The Mom: And now she’s going….going…gone.

Xena wanted to include this note to all our friends. I haven’t filtered it, so hoping there’s nothing too inappropriate.

Xena: Hey friends! Y’all first got notified of this post publishing on Wednesday. I want to say I’m sorry for Mommy’s mistake. She was really sick with a rotten cold and had crawled out of bed to get my selfies and thought she had set it to run on Sunday but she ran it on Wednesday instead BOL! The good news is she has been able to put together our meals every day even though she could hardly shuffle to the kitchen. Oh, and there was a reason I couldn’t stay awake. While Daddy and Lucy and Chia went and slept in the other bedroom for a week, I got stuck in stayed in the bed with my Mommy to be sure she was OK and between her nose blowing and throat clearing and farting, I didn’t get my beauty rest. Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving!

Birds of Prey Selfies and Chia’s Confession

Hi friends, and a big woofin’ thanks to The Cat on My Head, for hosting Sunday Selfies.

Xena: Hi there everyone! October was a big month for company coming. During the last weekend of the month — actually, beginning that Thursday — Daddy’s sister and two cousins and their husbands came to visit from the IN state. And his other cousin and her husband came to visit from the NC state. That was a lot of people all at once! Chia couldn’t behave herself, something called “over stimulation”, so got put in her my kennel where she screamed for 40 minutes. We were all on the porch right outside the glass door and big window where the kennel was, so we got to listen to every bit of it!

Chia: You just wait Xena the squeala until there’s somethin’ I can tell on you! Umm, I mean, I’m innocent, Your Honor!

Xena: Ignore her. We all do. Anyhow, our folks and all the company spent the day at Rock City that Saturday, and they went to the Birds of Prey show. Oh, I’m sure you’re wondering why I didn’t go…you see, it’s cause they were all going out to eat at a restaurant afterwards, and we live in a backwards country that doesn’t let dogs inside restaurants, well, except for that time Angel Lexi got to go through a restaurant when she was advertising the Wizard of Oz for the Chattanooga Symphony who was playing the score thingie from it. She was able to check that off her bucket list. But the rest of us won’t be doing that so we all oughta move to France. Because in…

Lucy: Xena, could you please just tell the story about the birds of prey, or do you want me to take over?

Xena: It’s OK, I’m back on track now, Luce. Let’s see, where was I…oh yeah, the birds. These birds had all been rescued and are now unable to live in the wild. They seem to really like their new home, though. Mom got some neat pictures, so we decided we’d let them have the selfies today. We’re going to take turns introducing them. We drew treats to see who would go first, but everyone ate their treats before we could measure them so we are just going from oldest to youngest. Riley, you wanna go first?

Riley: Thanks, Xena. I want to feature Bob the Barn Owl. These owls are also known as Monkey Faced Owls.

I think they should be called Heart-Faced Owls. Look at those long wings, and them long nails! Mom thinks I used to be hard to do a nail trim on…I’d love to see her try to cut those!

Lucy: Thanks, Riley. I’ve got the colorful bird of prey to show you. The American Kestrel is small in size, but so pretty! I didn’t get his name. Oh, Mom just told me that she couldn’t get a picture of the one at Rock City, but this one from the internet looks just like him.

Hi, it’s me, Xena, again. I picked the Barred Owl, aka Hoot Owl to do her selfie today, cause she looks cuddly and cute, just like me!

Barred Owls aren’t usually all white like this. They said this one is an albino!

Hi hi hi!! It’s me, Chia, who Xena fibs about! I picked the fiercest and fastest bird of prey, just like me! This is the mighty Peragrin Falcon!

They didn’t walk around with this big girl, so the picture was taken from the bleachers. She even screams like I do! (Oh, wait, I think I just told on myself.)

Xena: With that great presentation and confession, we’re wrapping up Selfie Sunday!

Woofs and Wags from Riley, Lucy, Xena and Chia

Sunday Selfie with Riley, Ratto, Chia & Racky-D

Hi friends, and a big woofin’ thanks to The Cat on My Head, for hosting Sunday Selfies.

Riley here. Did I tell you Mom Amy took me to a doggie dermatologist? Oh yeah, I remember now, I told you. The Atopica pills for my allergies didn’t work out. They gave me the squirts and lots of cramping. Even a lower dose gave me the squirts. Dang, and I was getting so much more raw hamburger because of those pills, too! Mom Amy’s mad because she spent so much money on them and the doc won’t even take back the box that isn’t open. Harumph. Guess we’re done going there. Too bad. I really liked them.

On to what else is happening around here. The other evening I spotted Chia on the couch with her Ratto, aka uh, well, I don’t remember the other names. Don’t give me any flack about that, Chia. I might be 12, but I still have all my huge, sharp teeth!

So, as I was saying, I grabbed Ratto and played tug-o-war with Chia. I have to give her credit, she put up a good tug-o-war fight, but, of course, in the end, I won. She kept coming at me, trying to get Ratto back. Guess what I did! Ratto ended up where Chia wouldn’t dare to even try to grab him!

It was bedtime, so Ratto was my pillow all night! Hmm, I wonder where my Racky-D is???

Well, I’m sure he’ll show up, maybe playing with the other stuffies.

Happy Sunday, everyone! Riley

Selfie Sunday: Xena

It’s my turn to do a Sunday Selfie. My life’s been pretty miserable lately. I have a flea allergy. That means that when even one flea bites me, I go crazy itching and scratching.

Mommy got the yard treatment guys to spray real good. The stuff is supposed to not cause cancer or hurt peeps or pooches, even if we eat the grass — after it all dries. Well, that didn’t work. Even after that and after Mommy washed our bedding and vacuumed and flea bathed us all, I would still have one or two on me every time she checked, morning and night. Then she sprinkled that stuff that cuts them into pieces — I think it’s called diatomaceous earth (Mommy helped me with the spelling) in our dog lot. I still was getting fleas. Then she called the pest service back and a different guy came out. He told Mommy that he was going to use something else that was also safe for all of us. He thought maybe the fleas had grown used to the other stuff, and they needed something new to do the job. He sprayed really good, and Mommy hasn’t found a flea on me since. Well, that way my long way of saying that there have been no new fleas, but I am still suffering from the bites from the other ones that are now dead, and, if Mommy’s words came true as she killed each one, they’re all burning in H.E. double hockey sticks.

Anyhoo, that was a long way of saying that I’ve decided, for my Sunday Selfie, to go to my happy place without fleas or Chia or anything else that irritates me or makes me miserable. Especially fleas.

Join me, and we’ll play and pretend happy things.

Many thanks to  The Cat on My Head  for hosting Sunday Selfies!

Sunday Selfie by Jemma

Many thanks to  The Cat on My Head  for hosting Sunday Selfies!

Hi, I’m Jemma. I think we might have met before. I’m here with my Mom, Uncle Jeff’s sister. Me and my Mom, we live in Illinois. We’re here in Tennessee so my Mom can visit her brother and also go to her conference in a city called Nashville. She’s been gone overnight, at least 87 hours, and I’ve been scared.

I have my own room, and I stayed in it all day yesterday, guarding my space, and all night too. Today I’m trying to be braver. Riley scares me. Chia kinda scares me. Xena kinda scares me, too. I like Lucy. I growled at Aunt Amy every time she came in “my” room, even when she brought me peace offerings and sat on the floor with me. This morning she lifted her lip and growled back. That scared me, too, but now I at least know who’s boss. So I finally decided to try to trust her. After all, someone has to feed me and take me outside, right? And I don’t know if my Mom is ever coming back. So I’m outa my room and trying harder to fit in. Maybe I’ll see y’all again soon, if I’m gonna be living here. (Do you like how I used the Southern “y’all?” I’m trying.)

*little wags* Jemma

From Aunt Amy: Jemma’s Mom will be back later this afternoon.

Lucy and Xena on Selfie Sunday

Many thanks to  The Cat on My Head  for hosting Selfie Sunday!

Xena: This week it’s Lucy’s turn to do a selfie. She hates having her picture taken, so I selflessly volunteered to be in the picture with her, making it an “ussie.”

OK, Lucy, look at Mommy. She’s got two fish oil pills in her hand, and you get one of them if you look at her. You know you want one!

Good girl, Lucy! You did great! I’ll help you every time it’s your turn. Now, for that fish oil…

Have a great Sunday, everyone! XOX Lucy and Xena Schnauzer Warrior Princess

Riley on Selfie Sunday

Hi folks, I get to do the selfie today in honor of Angel Mau at The Cat on My Head. There are those extra special companions who deserve special recognition. I hope I will be one of them when I am gone.

Do you remember me getting a new stuffie for my birthday on May 1? At that time I hadn’t decided whether to cherish it or deadie it, so I didn’t name it. That all changed not long ago.

Here is Raccoon Dog with me in my bed for my Sunday selfie. Racky-D for short. In case you were wondering it was Chia who took his eye. I almost lost my right eye, too, and it’s been cloudy ever since. So I took that as a sign that we should be friends.

Hoping everyone’s having a good Sunday. I’ve started on a new food, and I think it must be close to supper time. I can’t wait to lick my bowl clean again. OK, so gotta go and see if supper’s being served.

*wags* Riley and Racky-D.

It’s Noodle’s Birthday

Thanks to The Kitties Blue for hosting Sunday Selfies every week!

If you remember our Lexi the Schnauzer, you probably remember her boyfriend Noodle. Today we are giving him the Sunday Selfie spot.

This photo is from a year ago. Noodle’s Mom no longer has a blog for him, but she does have a FB page. So where are we going with this? Today is Noodle’s 12th birthday! If you like, you can drop by here to wish him a happy birthday.

Noodle was going to be Lexi’s VM when she won the mayoral election (I have to say “when”, since she would have been extremely upset if I had said “if.”):

And he took her on some very romantic trips:

So today, we celebrate Noodle!

Too Busy for Sunday Selfie

Thanks to The Kitties Blue for hosting Sunday Selfies every week!

Xena: What did you say, Mom? It’s time for a Sunday selfie?

OK, will this work?

I can do better? Sorry, I’m in the middle of playing, and trying to ignore the thunder.

Chia: Hey XeBoo, do you see this thing on the carpet?

Xena: How can I see anything on the carpet when I’m laying on my back, LongBoo?

Xena: I’m not seeing anything, but there’s a good smell here I think I’ll roll in.

Chia: You don’t see it because…

…because it’s in my mouth!

Happy Sunday and a service announcement from Chia: Besides being the 4th of July, tomorrow’s another special day for me! I’ll letcha’all know what kind of fun we have…maybe tomorrow, maybe the next day. OK? Luv ya!

Selfie Sunday by Xena

Hi friends, and thanks to The Kitties Blue for hosting Selfie Sundays every week! Today I want to show you a selfie with me and one of my new good friends, Arty.

Remember when Arty stayed with us a few days not long ago? He heard about these selfies and I told him I would help him with his first one. He did really great…with a little help from a friend.
We both wish you a great last week of June!

Wags from Xena and Arty

Ella’s Sunday Selfie

Many thanks to  The Cat on My Head  for hosting Sunday Selfies!

Ella: Auntie Amy surprised me, saying I could have the Sunday Selfie today. This is a picture from when I was tattling on Achilles informing my bestie, Lucy, that something was going on in the bathroom that she needed to check out! Click here if you missed that.

Well, Lucy got so ticked off at him that she wouldn’t even sleep in the same room last night. Achilles slept in the bed with Aunt Amy and Xena (Xena made sure Aunt Amy was between them), and Lucy slept in the living room with me. Achilles can be a real dog.

Anyhow, I hope you like my selfie. *wags* Ella

Xena’s Selfie and Aoife in Denver

Xena: Mommy just groomed me, so I’ll start with a picture of me for selfie Sunday.

Now that you have seen how pretty I look, we can move on to Aoife. Aoife is a soft-coated wheaten terrier, and the largest dog Mommy would groom, so as to keep her trips to the chiro to a minimum. We always liked it when Aoife was done with her groom and ran upstairs to say hi to us. A while back she moved with her pawrents to a place far away called Denver. Her Mom sent us a picture this week:

Aoife is absolutely loving the snow! Maybe she could teach us how to play in snow!!

I gotta go now. Mommy’s going downstairs to groom another dog, and then we are going to Freestyle practice. Chia’s going too, which I don’t mind since I get a whole ton more floor time than she does!

Oh, and many thanks to  The Cat on My Head  for hosting Sunday Selfies!

Home Alone (with Miss Christy)with No Selfies

Lucy: Miss Christy, I love you and love having you here so much I forgot to ask where Dad and Mom went?
Miss Christy: My sweet Lucy, (*whispers* You know you are my favorite girl.) I love being here, too.

Your Mom and Dad just needed a little break, so they went to stay in a cabin in the middle of Norris Dam State Park.

Chia: You said a bad word!

Miss Christy (ignoring Chia’s comment): It’s a huge park with lots of trees and trails and sits on the mountains surrounding Knoxville, Tennessee.

Chia: But what are they doing at the dam state park?

Miss Christy: *sigh* Let’s see…Friday night they got dressed up and went to a ballroom dance studio. They said the music was really good and the people were all very nice and welcoming. There is a dance there every other week, and your folks will probably be going back several times throughout the year and spend the night in Knoxville. The drive is only a little over two hours. But don’t worry, I’ll come and stay with you sweet pups.

Lucy: If that’s all they did, why aren’t they home yet?

Miss Christy: No, they rented the cabin for three nights and during the day, instead of exploring trails, they explored restaurants and historical places.

Chia: I’d a rather done the trails. I coulda’ run like the wind through those forests and maybe even caught a squirrel or a rabbit!

Miss Christy: Yes, you are very fast, Chia girl! But it was too cold for them, down in the 30’s and 40’s. So they did indoor stuff. Since your Dad is very allergic to foods with gluten, corn or soy, they tried out a restaurant called Benefit Your Life Bakery. Absolutely nothing in it had gluten, corn or soy.

Lucy: That was good for our Dad, right?

Miss Christy: So good, your Mom said he was standing at the front looking in the case and seemed to be having something like a religious experience. He was saying, “I’ll have one of those and one of those and one of those and oh my, this is so wonderful, and one of those, etc.” She was on the verge of being embarrassed.

Chia: That’s nothing new. I embarrass her on most of our walks! And it’s always ’cause I’m so excited about something, too.

Miss Christy: Yes, Chia, I understand that. Anyhow, on Saturdays they serve breakfast, so yourDdad got a biscuit and gravy and your Mom, who doesn’t always like GF baked goods, got a bacon, egg and cheese GF biscuit. They were both so impressed they vowed to eat there every time they spent the night for a dance.

Xena: Are they bringing us any?
Miss Christy: Your Dad bought several of the sweets to bring home, but I don’t think they were for you pups. Sorry XeXe.

After that they went to the University of Tennessee McClung Museum of Natural History & Culture. The stories of the first exhibit they saw told of what your Mom felt were the Native American artist’s existential experiences and understanding of life movement through each “season.” The plaques next to each painting had explanatory quotes.

There were more, but these were some of their favorites. Your Dad said that something in this last exhibit reminded him of you, Chia.

Chia: Was I the mighty hunter?
Miss Christy: Ummm, more like one of the predators in the origin of all mammals, ummm, so yes! You were the mighty hunter.
Chia: *whole body wiggles*

Lucy: Tell us more, Miss Christy *wags*.

It was cold and raining when they left the museum, but decided to press on to their next destination. The Historic Ramsey House was built in 1797 by Knoxville’s first builder, Thomas Hope, for Francis Alexander Ramsey. The home is constructed of Tennessee pink marble and blue limestone. It was known at that time as the finest home in Tennessee. The structure is significant for its original interior and exterior architectural features and its period decorative art collection.

The Ramsey Family was one of the first families to settle the Knoxville area. They played vital roles in developing civic, educational and cultural institutions. Colonel Francis A. Ramsey was one of the founding trustees of Blount College, now the University of Tennessee. Mr. Ramsey lived there through the marriage and death of two wives, from whom he had several boy children. He then married his third wife, who had also been widowed twice. They were together less than a year when he died of malaria, leaving her pregnant with her sixth child, a girl. One of his sons, Dr. J.G.M. Ramsey authored an early history of the state, The Annals of Tennessee. Another son, William B.A. Ramsey, was the first elected mayor of Knoxville and the Secretary of State for Tennessee.

Xena: *yawn* This is boring. Can we see pictures?
Miss Christy: Here you go, baby girl.

Riley: *yawn* I’m going to take my after breakfast nap now. They’ll be back. They always come back.
Xena: I miss Mommy and Daddy. Hold me, Miss Christy.
Chia: I’m gonna go take a nap on Lucy’s back now.

Miss Christy: Let’s all go take a nap in the bed together and then we can get a snack and play when we get up. Your folks will be home tomorrow.

Chia: That sounds dam good!

Sunday Selfie Naps

The Mom: Since the girls were napping after a good breakfast, I helped them with their “selfies.”

If these sweeties were awake, I know they would send tail wags and wishes for a happy week.
