Lucy, outside of the courthouse: Has there been any progress in determining the whereabouts of the defendant?

Larry the Lemur: Yes, Your Honor, er, Lucy. She was spotted making a getaway in a helicopter. We have some footage of it. Here it is on my cell phone.

We tracked the chopper as far as the Azores Archipelago, which sits in the Atlantic Ocean approximately halfway between the U.S. and Germany.

Lucy: You don’t mean Chia is headed to…
Larry: Yes, it does seem that she knows where her sister went under the witness protection plan. Uh, Lucy? Would you please go ahead and carry me back home now? You know I don’t walk so well anymore. Not since Chia…well…never mind.

meanwhile, in Bavaria..

Xexe: Gee, Shanaya, thanks for letting me sleep here at your apartment. These sleeping cubicles are so cozy with the heat lamp on during these cold nights.

Shanaya: Of course, Xexe, you can stay as long as you need to. Let’s try to get some shut-eye now.

a few minutes later…

Shanaya: Xexe, is that you snoring? You woke me up.
Xexe: No, I don’t snore. Only Chia snores. *eyes open wide*

Xexe *whispering*: What the double hockey sticks is she doing here? How’d she find me?
Shanaya *whispering*: I wish I knew. You go back to bed and I’ll stand guard.
Xexe *whispering*: What if she wakes up? She might tear you to bits.
Shanaya *whispering*: Don’t worry about me. I have a blackbelt in jujitsu.
Xexe: *shakes head, wondering how a belt that is black and soaking in a fruit juice drink can help. Or is that the Bavarian way of swearing…*
Chia: *yawn* You know I can hear you two whispering.
Xexe and Shanaya: *gasp*

Lucy’s Thankful Thursday and Poetry

Lucy: I’m thankful for Angel Brian, who is hosting Thankful Thursday, as well as Angel Sammy for the fun picture every week. I hope no one is upset that I added one little detail to the picture – do you see it? Now for my poem.

Double Jeopardy by Lucy

The workers drove a jeep of blue,
Climbing the cliffs of Timbuktu.
To build a house upon the top
Despite the precarious drop.

Then suddenly there did appear
A huge creature with lots of hair,
Blocking the path they must traverse;
They feared returning in a hearse.

Slowly they did back away
While hoping Sasquatch there would stay.
‘T’was not a place a home to build
Unless you were in a Big Foot guild!

Wow, I sure hope my Mom and Dad never decide to do something like that. I’ll have to say, “Just leave me here!”

Chia: I was very sad when Miss Jentry went home on Sunday evening. I curled up in bed with Bro Andrew and cried for a while. But I’m thankful she’s coming back this Sunday…maybe even sooner!

Xena: I’m thankful that our twice a year vet visit to have blood drawn for our DNA heartworm test is done. I don’t like going to the vet. I hide under the chair.
Chia: Hey Xeboo, didn’t you hear what happened? Mom set the vials of blood with the cold pack on top of the car before she helped us back into the car, then she drove away. She didn’t realize what she’d done until we got to FedEx and she couldn’t find the blood they stole from us. Dad’s taking us back again today for “another stick.”
Xena: Noooo!! *shaking and hiding under the kitchen chair*

Lucy: I hope all our friends have a good Thursday and no one tries to steal your blood.

Chia’s Nails and Dance Hopes on Sunday Selfie

Thanks to The Cat on My Head for hosting Sunday selfies.

Chia: Hey Miss Jentry, I’m so waggin’ glad you came over to stay with us last night. I like snuggling up with you to sleep. And all that food you cooked today smelled so yummy! *whole body wags*

Miss Jentry: I love you too, Chia, and I know what you’re trying to do. But your Mom said not to give you any of it.

Chia: Well, in that case, I’m gonna go with my Dad. After all, I wanna show off my pretty new nail polish!

Chia: Dad’s going to play his horn with the big band at a private party. They’ll think I’m so cute they’ll let me in, and I know how to dance, you know. I learned freestyle dancing from Mom and Xena.

Hey Dad, you look really nice. So do I. Miss Jentry gave me a bath and painted my nails like candy canes. I wanna go to the dance with you. *whole body wags* I’m ready to go! Let’s go! Let’s go!

Dad Jeff: Uh, Amy, did you tell Chia she could go with me? She’s even got her harness on to go.

Mom Amy: Nope. It was all her idea. Good luck dissuading her.

Lucy’s Report on Millie’s Birthday

Lucy, Ace Reporter here with a special video to show you today. One of our shih tzu clients – Millie – had a special birthday. She sent us a video of her dancing while her Mom sang Happy Birthday, and we want to share it with you, dear reader.

Even her little brother Gus joined in! I hope you enjoyed the enthusiasm with which Miss Mille celebrated her birthday.

This is Lucy signing off with wishes for a good rest of your weekend. *wags*

Xena’s Thankful Poetic Thursday

Xena: We’re finally back with a working ‘puter. And we’re not letting Mommy set her coffee cup anywhere near her ‘puter anymore! As always, we give our thanks to Angel Brian who is hosting Thankful Thursday, as well as Angel Sammy for the fun picture every week.  I saw all that yummy milk and hopped right in to help lick it up.

Don’t Cry over Spilled Milk by Xena

Janie had just gotten her milk from the table
When she tripped o’er her own feet and wasn’t able
To keep it from spilling all over the floor.
That was the last of it, there was not any more.

Janie, Liz, Dell and Belle all began to cry;
The cats rubbed her legs and meowed loud and high.
Her schnauzer said, Stop! Let’s clean the floor
Don’t cry over spilt milk, there will always be more.

Now it’s time for thankfuls. I’m thankful I get to cuddle up under the covers with my Mommy every night. Sometimes I get too hot and crawl out from under blankets. Then, when I get cold and start to shiver, it wakes Mommy up and she pulls me close under the blankets and holds me until we fall asleep again.

Lucy: Since I don’t sleep under the covers, I’m thankful that Mom puts my sweater on me to keep me warm at the foot of the bed. Although I often creep up along her leg to touch her and Dad while I sleep

Chia: Seems like we’ve got a theme going on here. OK, so I’m thankful that I’m the best cover diver in the house and sleep anywhere I can get to under the covers. Lots of times, though, it’s right in between Dad and Mom’s legs.

That’s it for today. Have a good end of the week and weekend and we’ll see all y’all soon!

Startling Trial Revelations

Judge Lucy: Since we do not have a state or local prosecutor, I will show the next piece of evidence. Chia, you were caught on video attacking and deading Ludwig. President Larry Lemur, please show us the videos.

President Larry Lemur: Your Honor Lucy and animals and stuffies of the court, do any of you dispute that the dog in this video is our defendant, Chia? If so, speak or woof now. *prolonged silence*
I believe you can clearly see what Chia was doing when she thought she was not being watched.

Next is the video of when she realized she had been filmed during her crime against a stuffie, and this is where she tried to cover it up by stating that she had found Ludwig torn apart like this, with his stuffing hanging out.

Judge Lucy: Defendant Chia, I will give you one more chance to try to redeem yourself by entering a different plea.

Chia: But, but…I thought no one saw and then it wouldn’t count. And hey! You said this is a mock trial!! What about that!

Judge Lucy: Yes, we had set it up that way until the hard evidence of these two videos appeared in my email from an anonymous source.

meanwhile…

Xexe in Hospital Room in Bavaria: I’ll be right here with you, Ludwig. I’m going to try to get a little shut-eye in this chair the kind nurse had brought in for me, but just say my name – either of my names – and I’ll help you with whatever you need.

Ludwig: You are still my love, XeXe or Xena or whatever lovely moniker you wish for me to call you. After all, a rose by any other name is still a rose, and you, my Xena Schnauzer, by any other name, are still my love. Your beautiful face is always in my heart and will live in my soul forever, and…

Xexe: *snore*

*back at the courtroom*

Chia: Dogs and Stuffies of the jury! Yes! Yes! I deadied the stuffie!! It was me! I had fun doing it and I will do it again! It’s. Just. A. Stuffie!!

*Stunned silence while Chia turns and runs out of the courtroom.*

The Trial

Judge Lucy: Shania, please present the picture.
Shania: Yes, Your Honor Lucy. This picture was taken after I had finished the life-saving surgery on Herr Ludwig. He lost a lot of stuffing, but in the end, he survived.

Judge Lucy: Please give your credentials for doing this kind of medicine.
Shania: I studied wartime surgery in my homeland of Germany – in Bavaria, to be more specific – the same state from which Ludwig hails. Besides both being schnauzers, that’s why we were such good friends. We often went out for a non-alcohol beer together. When he was in such bad shape it made me faint from worry that he wouldn’t make it. However, I roused myself in time to perform the necessary repair surgery to keep him alive.

Chia: Where is he now? Did he talk? I thought for sure…well, never mind. *hangs head*

Shania: He’s was air-lifted to a specialty facility for seriously injured stuffied. We’re all still praying he makes it.

Meanwhile in Bavaria…

Shania’s Identical Twin Sister Shanaya: How are you feeling, Ludwig? Xexe and I will take turns staying here with you while you begin to recover.
Ludwig: I’m very tired, Fräulein Shanaya . I lost a lot of stuffing. But I think I’ll be OK.

Xexe: Miss Nurse, when can Ludwig go home with me? Don’t misunderstand…I have my pajamas on and am prepared to spend the night with him here. Or as long as it takes. I’m in a witness protection plan and am living with Fräulein Shanaya here in Bavaria. My real name’s Xena, but now I’m going by an alias, Xexe.
Shanaya: Xexe, I don’t think you’re supposed to tell anyone that…

Back to the trial…

Chia: I don’t understand. But what about the funeral?!

Shania: When I realized that Herr Ludwig was – most likely – going to recover – with the proper help, that is – President Larry Lemur and I discussed how this should be handled. Ludwig was still too injured to talk and stayed in a stuffie coma for a few days. In the meantime, we staged his funeral, hoping the dog who had performed this heinous crime would come forward, or in some way be identified. But she didn’t. So that’s when we went to Lucy, asking her to hold a mock trial.

Chia: Mock trial?

Sunday Selfie

Xena: Thanks to The Cat on My Head for hosting Sunday selfies. Since Sawyer asked so nicely for everyone to join in, we took a vote and…

Chia: We did NOT vote. Why do you always have to say that?

Xena: Lucy and I voted without you. Anyhoo, as I was saying, we decided to give this Sunday to our dear Riley, who crossed the Bridge last Wednesday. We also want to thank Miss Ann from Zoolatry for making the picture even prettier.

We love you, Riley!

Judge Lucy: Defendant Chia, how do you plea to the charge of Murder of Stuffie in the First Degree?

Chia: I plead not guilty, Your Honor Lucy. I don’t even know what you’re talking about.

Judge Lucy: Here’s some pictures that might help your memory.

Chia: You can’t prove anything! You can’t prove it was me! Why do I always get blamed?!
Dogs and stuffies of the jury, you’ve gotta find me not guilty. I’m almost innocent!

Judge Lucy: Then how do you explain this picture?

Chia: Ummm, give me a minute. Oh yeah. I found Ludwig and brought him to Dad so he could take him to the emergency stuffie vet.

Judge Lucy: What about Xena waking up with a pillow over her head right after you were in the bed with her? This happened just before Ludwig was attacked. By the way, you also have a second charge of Attempted Murder.

Chia: Circumstantial evidence, Your Honor Lucy. You can’t convict me without more proof!

Judge Lucy: What about Prayer Bear and Edward the Duck who were not actually killed but looked like they had been knocked out at the same time Xena woke up with the pillow over her face?

Chia: We had been playing so hard that they passed out. Or maybe Xena did it.

Judge Lucy: Uh, yes, they’re OK now. And if they corroborate your story, we can drop that charge.

Chia: So, what else ya got?

Judge Lucy: How about a first hand witness?
Chia: Impossible! Ludwig’s dead, and he’s the only one who saw me…er, I mean, no one could say what really happened!! Could they???

Riley – A Memorial

Xena: I wanted to help post some pictures of the brother we were all thankful to have.

Yes, were. Riley crossed the Rainbow Bridge the day before Thanksgiving. It’s been a sad few days, and we really hate to see our brother Andrew so sad. But, as it had to be, it was him who finally made the decision, and we could all see that Riley was ready. Poor Ri-boy was in a lot of pain with no hope of it getting better, so Andrew did the loving thing.

Miss Ingrid, who has Benji and Dalton, made us this beautiful momento picture.

Here are pictures Mommy has taken of Riley throughout the years. She says to please be sure to read the captions in the pictures.

You will leave a big hole in our hearts and our home, sweet Riley. We love you, now and forever.

Thanksgiving for Our Riley

Today, appropriately enough, it’s Thankful Thursday on Thanksgiving Day. Through many tears, we all give thanks for our big, sweet boy, who left us yesterday for the Bridge. The last two days he gave us clear signs that he was ready…ready to be free of pain; ready to breathe easily again; ready to give up the trials of this life and wait for His Person Andrew on the Other Side.

At the only “vet place” he ever liked going, he ate Hershey’s Kisses as the kind tech fed them to him, a sweet treat that had always been forbidden. But now it couldn’t hurt him. His Person Andrew, Jentry, and I sat on the floor with him, gently stroking him, reminding him of the fun parts of his life, and going through a box of kleenex as we said our goodbyes and fed him more chocolate.

The vet came in and administered a sedative through the catheter that had just been placed in his leg. While holding back tears herself, she listened to our stories about Riley. She shared that every time she had to do this, she also cried after she got home. Then the final injection went into the catheter and he slipped peacefully away.

Tomorrow I will post a memorial of pictures of our big, sweet boy, whose greatest loves in his life were always Andrew and little children.

R.I.P sweet Riley. You will live forever in our hearts and minds.

Xena’s Close Call

Continued from Tuesday’s post, Ludwig’s Funeral

Xena: Mommy, I’ve been telling Lucy the strange things that happened the day our dear Ludwig died.

Me and Chia were laying in bed early in the morning.

Daddy had gotten up not long before and had left his bipap mask on his pillow. He jokingly laid Mommy’s pillow on my back before he went downstairs to get cleaned up. I left it there because it kept me warm. I was cozy and nodded off.

I had a bad dream about Ludwig being with other girls. It was like I was reliving
the blog post I did about him a few years ago.

When I woke up, I was on my back and the whole pillow was trying to suffocate me.

I struggled, trying to not panic, and when I finally got it off, I realized that Chia wasn’t there any more. I’m not sure what happened.

Then, if that wasn’t strange enough, when I jumped out of bed, two of Chia’s stuffies were right there. They looked like they had been knocked out…or suffocated! And why was my little pillow from my red bed on the floor?

Do you think someone was trying to murder me? Like they murdered Ludwig? *shudder* I think I might need police protection round the clock.
Lucy: The police will take you to a motel or somewhere to live or sometimes set up a whole new identity for you – new name, new pawrents, new address – and have you live in another city without any of us. You’d be safe then.
Xena: Oh no, no! I couldn’t leave my Mommy! I’ll just stay real close to her. She always protects me.
Chia: *scoffs* Like you don’t do that now. And “Mommy” can’t be with you ’round the clock.
Xena: Mommy, where are we going together today?

To be continued…

Ludwig’s Funeral

Continued from Sunday’s post, Ludwig’s Injuries.

Xena: I can’t believe Ludwig passed over. Thank you, Shania, for telling me his final words, that he still loves me. *wipes eyes* Ludwig was a wonderful stuffie, and I loved him too. Who would ever hurt that sweet German boy from Cleveland, OH!?
Shania: He was about to tell me who did this to him when I fainted. Then, when I woke up, he had just passed over the Stuffie Rainbow Bridge.

In the meantime…

Brownie Bear: Why is Ludwig in a shroud?
Shania the Schnauzer: His wounds were too grievous to look at.
Chip the Chipmunk: Ludwig was always good to me. He never chased me like schnauzers are prone to do.
Larry the Lemur: As the unanimously voted leader of this pack, I wish to say a few words. Ludwig was always his own dog. He travelled extensively, was always kind to all of us, and loved Xena without hesitation. He will be greatly missed.
JenJen Bear: I never said anything, but I will confess now, and hope that Ludwig can hear me on the other side of the Bridge: I loved you, Ludwig, and would have been your wife. But you never had eyes for anyone but Xena. That was OK, I just wanted you to be happy.
Prayer Bear: Unless someone else has something to say, let’s bow our heads in prayer.

To be continued….

Ludwig’s Injuries

Xena: Mommy, I heard that my friend Ludwig got hurt real bad. Is it true?
It is? Is he going to be OK?
No! He can’t be hurt that badly! He’s too young to cross the Stuffie Rainbow Bridge! I sure hope he makes it despite the odds.

I still remember the first time I saw him, when I was still just six months old. I was at St. Luke’s Methodist Church, helping you in the office. We even posted a blog about it.

And remember that St. Patrick’s Day he got me drunk (I just smelled it, but it made me tipsy) and kissed me? He could be a scoundrel, but a loveable one! Yep, we did a blog post on that, too.

Meanwhile….

Shania: Ludwig, I came to sit with you for a while. How are you feeling?

Ludwig: Not so good, Shania. I think this may be the end of the road for me. Please tell Xena I still love her.

I will, Ludwig. I promise. But how did this happen? Who did this to you? Let me see your wounds. (WARNING: NOT FOR SENSITIVE VIEWERS)

OMD! OM…. Ohhh, I don’t feel so…

Thankful Poetic Thursday with Xena

Xena: Thanks to Angel Brian who is hosting Thankful Thursday, as well as Angel Sammy for the fun picture every week.

This week I promised Teddy, brother to Angel Sammy, that I would make sure there was a super good poem for this picture so I decided to do it myself instead of letting one of my siblings take it on. I hope they understand, but it’s probably my turn anyhow! I decided not to jump into the picture. I really don’t want to be stuck in a lion’s den with a big boy lion!!

The Lion of Peace by Xena

The children all flock, the lion to see,
No one afraid nor in terror do flee.
Like lambs in the Good Book lay down with the lion
In peace, as it says in Revelation.

Some day soon we hope the hatred will end;
That people of all nations will be friends;
That race, sex and creed will not keep them apart.
Befriending the lion is a great start!

Xena: We pray for peace in our own nation, with acceptance of everyone’s differences. None of us pups are the same breed or color, but we are sisters and we accept each other and love each other. (Chia still has a few manners to learn…but she’s getting there.) And we think everyone should be able to make decisions about their own body. For instance, I should be able to say, “No, I don’t want groomed. I like my hair long. And don’t bathe me, either.” Right?

Chia: That’s right, and we should be able to say, “Give me all the food I want. It’s up to me to decide if I eat so much I get fat or throw up or whatever.” Right?

Lucy: Girls, I’m thankful that Mom just tries to keep us healthy and happy, like people do for their children. But you’re right, Xena. I also think that the adult people could try harder to get along and be allowed to make their own decisions about themselves. I know this isn’t the official Day of Peace in the world, but maybe we could all try harder to live with that value every day.
Xena: Happy unofficial Day of Peace, everyone!

Chia’s Trip to the Vet

Hey y’all, it’s me, Chia. Spoiler Alert: I’m OK.
Dad was holding me. Speaking of which, why can’t Xena just give up and get down. I squished her against the chair arm as hard as I could and she still wouldn’t budge. Not only that, but Dad was watching TV and not paying attention to me. Sometimes I wonder if it’s worth what all I have to go through to make it a special time just between the two of us.

Hey Dad, make her get down so we can have our special time together.

Anyhow, Xena finally got down and I got situated better. That’s when Mom saw a crusty lump under my right arm. She got really upset and then she saw the same “crusty lump” on the top of my back left foot.

Arrow pointing at lump under my arm.

The next morning (Tuesday) she called the vet and made an appointment for Thursday (their next available appointment). So here’s the good news. The vet right away said it wasn’t cancer. She thought it was a bacterial infection from the germs in my mouth when I would lick those spots. But why was I licking them? (I won’t tell.) Or she thought it might be a fungal infection like ringworm. So off go the room lights and on comes this special light that makes fungus glow in the dark. Guess what glowed in the dark…no, not my lumps….my nail polish, BOL! That sure got everyone laughing. I like laughing, it’s a happy sound. Now I’m supposed to be taking an antibiotic type pill every day but instead I’m just getting an extra treat of almond butter that no one else gets. Wow, this sure worked out OK! The only part of it I don’t like is Mom spraying this liquid stuff on those places. It’s got an antibacterial and a topical steroid in it. But I don’t like it. In fact, I hate the taste of it, so I have refused to lick those spots to help them heal. That oughta teach ’em!! Now the hair has started growing back and the lumps are getting smaller. Guess I’m gonna live.

I’m kinda worn out, so I’m calling it a night. Sweet dreams, friends. Your buddy, Chia

Lucy’s Thankful Thursday Poetry

Lucy: Thanks to Angel Brian who is hosting Thankful Thursday, as well as Angel Sammy for the fun picture every week.
I’ve made a short poem, but hope you still like it.

Do What’s Right by Lucy

You see, little one, they’re causing a fright.
I’ve raised you better, to do what is right.
One you are grown, what a difference you’ll make.
No hatred or chaos; let’s go eat some cake!

Lucy: Mom said she’s thankful I’m such a rule-follower. Compliant is what she calls me. It’s just how I am.

Xena: I’m thankful I got to go to work again on Tuesday. I kept greeting people real nice-like, but Mommy forgot to bring treats to give me for being a good girl. I still kept being good.

Chia: I’m thankful I don’t have cancer. Mom will tell y’all soon about the scare we had last week. And I’m thankful that Miss Jentry will probably be coming over to stay with Andrew and me and my siblings while Mom and Dad are away. I’m sure Mom will tell y’all about that, too. I just know they’ve been planning this for 87 months.

Lucy: Wishing everyone a good end of the week. I’ll leave you now with *wags* and this Irish blessing:
May your troubles be less and your blessings be more, and nothing but happiness come through your door

Chia’s Happy Tuesday

Hi friends!! *whole body wags* Miss Jentry came over last weekend and I’m always so excited to see her!!!!! She let me (just me) come out on the back porch with her and Andrew and baby-held me like Daddy does. Then she did something that I never had done before…she put color on my nails! And it wasn’t scary like when they get cut or dremeled either!

I feel beautiful.

Look, she even painted my dewclaws! Now I’m a pretty girl, just like Miss Jentry. *big wags*

Lots of thanks to Miss Sandee at Comedy Plus for hosting Happy Tuesday Blog Hop!
