Chia Rockin’ It on Thankful Thursday
Chia: Hey! It’s me! *lots of big wags* Thought I’d get this out while Xena’s napping. She won’t notice til it’s too late. I’m a bit tired myself after trying to get used to our new bed. It’s that new protective cover the folks put on it. We all hate it. So this morning early I curled up and took a nap on the blanket that was left between the pillows.

Movin’ on, we are thankful for Angel Brian, who is hosting Thankful Thursday, as well as Angel Sammy for the picture every week!

Lost in the Water by Chia
Kit took me swimming and we went too far.
Now we are lost and can’t find the North star.
It’s cloudy so the sun I can’t see.
How can I guide by astrology?
I’ll try bringing up Google Maps, Kit said.
But the charger’s at home and my phone’s almost dead.
Let’s pray for a boat, land’s too far to see.
“It’s time to wake up,” Xena said to me!
The End
Xena: That musta been some dream you were having, Chia. Your legs kept moving like you were swimming.
Chia: Uh, yep. Thanks for the wake up, Xebo… er, Sis Xena! I’m thankful you’re my sister and we can play together and have fun.
Xena: Me too. Just don’t ever try to go behind my back and steal Thursday blogs from me.
Chia: How did you…uh, nope, never!
Xena: I’m thankful today that we got a King Size Bed! Now we’re all back in sleeping with Daddy and everyone of us can sleep next to either Mommy or Daddy!
Chia: I’m thankful that Mom washed those new sheets, too. She and I both had a hard time going to sleep cause they had a funny smell.
Lucy: I’m thankful today that we got a new real, real, real quiet car. Dad said it runs on electricity. And I’m thankful I got to go for the test drive in it! We’ll all get to ride in it after the new back seat dog sling comes. That sounds kinda scary, but Mom says it’ll be fun and keep us all safe and the car seat clean.
Xena: Yep, I thought maybe Mommy would name it after me like she named the Lexus after Lexi. But no. She said she was tired of asking if they were taking the Nissan or the Chevy Bolt, so she said she was going to call them Car A (the first one they got) and Car B (this new one). So now she calls the Chevy “Carbee,” and talks to it. Grrrr.
Hoping everyone has a great weekend!
Pick Your Awww Monday

Thanks to Comedy Plus for hosting Awww Mondays!
Hi friends on the first Monday of fall. Yesterday My Jentry was here and she painted my toenails for me. Can you tell how relaxed I am the whole time?

Mom wanted to keep the pic rated PG, so…nothin’ to see there, WP! You should be lookin’ at my nails, anyhow!
Xena: Chia, please get back on track to your story.
Chia: If you want, you can make the picture bigger to see my pretty pink nails. She finished all my nails on all my feet after Mom took this picture. I love My Jentry.
Lucy: It was such a beautiful day that I stretched out in the dog lot and soaked up the sun. Can you see my shiny hairs? You can call me Ora* if you want.

I couldn’t look up at the camera phone cause the sun was in my eyes.
*Meaning: “Light” or “brightness”. Origin: Hebrew
Wishing you love and happiness today and every day. Chia and Lucy
Xena and Chia’s Poetry on Thankful Thursday
Xena: Happy Thankful and Poetry Thursday, everyone! I’ve let Chia jump in the picture with me. Well, and help me with the poem. I’m trying harder to be a good sister. Here we go!

Whatcha Doin’, Xena? by Xena and Chia
Chia: Whatcha doin’ Xena?
You’re on that truck…I see ya!
Xena: I’m tryin’ to find my breafast.
The Ollies packs went too fast!
Chia: I think there’s more Ollie boxes,
And maybe some salmon and loxes.
Xena: I’ll knock them on the road.
You check while I unload.
Chia: I’m running home to tell Dad!
He’ll know that you’ve been so bad.
Xena: And while in the kennel I lay
You won’t have a partner to play.
Chia: Hey! Let’s keep unloading the boxes!
Xena: We’ll both be as sly as foxes!
Chia: And no one will bark ne’er a word
Xena: This whole conversation just blurred.
Chia: I’m here first for the thankfuls cause I’m fast. I coulda probably outrun that truck. I’m thankful that we don’t have to chase down our yummy food. Mom always puts in in our bowls and puts it on the floor and says “wait” until we all have our bowls. Then she says, “Free!” and we can all eat. I’m thankful my sisters don’t try to steal my food, cause I’m the slowest eater. I like to chew my food, not just gulp it down like Lucy does.
Lucy: I’m still thankful for all the yummy little treat cookies that our friend Kim made us while she was here visiting. Mom gives me some while I’m at work with her. And I’m thankful for the nice weather. I love to lay out in the sunshine.
Xena: I’m thankful that Clare, the girl next door, comes over and feeds us and lets us out to potty when Mommy and Daddy are late getting home from work. Hmmm, I guess all of our thankfuls – and the poem – are about food today. Now everyone knows what’s really important to us!
And speaking of thankfuls, we are all thankful for Angel Brian, who is hosting Thankful Thursday, as well as Angel Sammy for the picture every week!
Queen of the Couch Pillow Awww Monday

Thanks to Comedy Plus for hosting Awww Mondays!
This couch pillow is near the top of the list of places that me and Xeboo (I know, I know, Xena, don’t call you Xeboo) vie for. Even Lucy tries to take this one over! And sometimes it’s a hard decision whether to get in Dad’s lap, lay next to Mom, or grab this favored spot in the living room. But today, I’m Queen of the Couch Pillow!

Your best friend, Chia!
Mom Amy: Chia came to us at seven months old and has been with us for a little over four years. I’ve never had a dumb dog, and I truly believe that Chia is only rivaled by Angel Lexi for being the smartest. We have to be careful to not allow her in situations where she can run off, which unfortunately restricts her from doing some things the other dogs get to do . But one thing I know for sure…her big heart overflows with love and caring (even though she shows it in strange and annoying ways to Lucy!). We wouldn’t trade her for anything!
Poetry by Chia on Thankful Thursday
Let’s start off again with being thankful for Angel Brian, who is hosting Thankful Thursday, as well as Angel Sammy for the picture every week!
Chia: I get to do the poem this week ’cause, well, I’ll get to that later. Right now, here’s my poem. You’ll soon see why I’m not in the picture!

What’s Wrong? by Chia
Darling, this is our anniversary!
Why won’t you smile or even look at me?
Please tell me what’s wrong and I’ll make it right.
I love you so much, I don’t want to fight.
It’s my Jacksund, Chia, my precious girl.
Leaving her alone makes my stomach churl.
Let’s go to the park where she can come too.
Then I’ll take you home and make love to you!
Lucy: Chia, this poem is scandalous!
Chia: What?! They’re gonna go home after we have fun in the park and then we can all cuddle together in bed. Right?
Anyhoo, Mom let me have the picture poem this week because Lucy got to go to the nursing home to see our grandma last Friday when we were in In Dee Anna, and I had to stay at the rental house with Xena. And it gets worse! On Saturday, Lucy and Xena both went to Dad’s sister’s hobby farm to celebrate grandma’s birthday with all their relatives, and I. Had. To. Stay. At. The. Rental. House. By. Myself.
So, I said, “Mom, don’t you think I should at least get to write the poem this week, and write whatever I want?” And she said, “Yes!” which meant that Xeboo couldn’t say “no.” So there, little Miss I got to go to the party and you didn’t! *big wags*
Xena: You woulda got loose and run off! We were all just looking out for you, cause we love you. Oh, and don’t call me Xeboo.
Lucy: And I’m thankful that you didn’t go and and maybe get lost and die in the the vast wilderness of Amish Country, In Dee Anna.
Chia: Umm, oh, yep, there is that. Well, I still hope everyone likes my poem.
The Mom: I’m thankful for a safe trip to Fort Wayne, IN and back. It’s about a nine hour drive each way. I’m also thankful that we don’t have to do that drive again until late November when we’ll be going for the Thanksgiving/Christmas get-together.
I’m also thankful for all three of my sweet pups. And yes, Chia’s safety is the only reason she didn’t get to come to the farm get-together. She’s still a “runner” and we love her too much to lose her like that (or at all!).
Wishing everyone a good Thursday and weekend, which is only one more day away!
Mouse in the House by Chia

On July 4th I was tasked with catching the mouse in the house! It surprised me once, and by the time I started chasing it, it had too much of a head start. But I’m gonna find you, mousy. Here, mousy, mousy…
I’m half dachshund, and we are badger hunters! Mice are more in Xena’s area of expertise, cause schnauzers are ratters. But I saw this one first and it’s gonna be MINE!
The problem is, I haven’t seen that mouse at all since then. Maybe she knows she’s dead meat if I get her! She’s been eating our coconut oil toothpaste, the stuff Mom mixes with Neem oil to brush our teeth. Grrrrr. Oh, and now Mom’s been referring to the mouse as “she” because “she” is so darn smart (sorry, guys)! Mom moved our coconut oil toothpaste to the very top of the stack dryer. Shoot, even she can barely get to it there! And guess what? Part of it was gone the next morning! How the dickens is this mouse getting to these places? And why isn’t it getting trapped? This time the mouse slammed the door on the trap shut on it’s way out!
She ate all the “toothpaste” in the trap again a few nights ago plus shut the trap door on her way out again! The other two traps broke trying to catch that darn mouse. She keeps going in them and eating our coconut oil and walking back out. At least she has good manners and shuts the trap door behind her!

“You won’t believe what she did the other night while we were asleep! She got on the stovetop and into the trap that had her favorite coconut oil. The door closed with her in the trap. She banged against the inside of the trap until it bounced off the stove. Then she kept banging against the inside of it until it was partway across the room. Then she got the door at the other end – the door only people are supposed to be able to pull off to release the mouse in the wild – lifted up out of it’s groove and walked away! (after she ate the coconut oil.)
My folks are about to look for another humane way of catching her. If that fails, well, there’s always the jaws of death. No! Not mine! (unless I catch her first) An old fashioned mouse trap. Mousie will die. Mom will cry. And then I will have failed. But it will be over.
Now the back of the trap is sealed with clear packing tape so mousy poo (yep, it poos a lot) can’t escape that way. But who woulda thought she could do that in the first place!?

Rubber bands are around the outside of the trap and hooked on each side to the burner grates on the stove. Hopefully, that will keep the trap from being bounced to the edge and off the stove top. More coconut oil is in it. We will know tomorrow if she took the bait again, or if she learned not to go into it. Mom’s also gonna place one in the bathroom. She’s heard mousy poo rustling around in there during the night.
This is your last chance, Miss Mousy Poo. Git out while the gittin’ is still good.
Chia, your arch nemesis.

In case you’re wondering, this is what the trap looks like.
Chia’s Poetry and Thankfuls on Her Birthday Month
Chia: It’s still my birthday month and I’m trying to make the most of it, with Xena’s blessing. She just turned 8, so she must be getting soft in her old age.
Xena: Hey! Watch it or I might revoke your blogging privileges Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going back to bed for my nap.
Chia: *whispering* See what I mean? Anyhoo, I’m thankful for Angel Brian, who is hosting Thankful Thursday, as well as Angel Sammy for the picture every week! Last week I said I bet I get to do the poem again this week, and I was right! (I think Mom had a bit of influence on the decision too. I saw Xe get an extra treat.) Here’s the picture and my poem!

Almost a Baboon by Chia
She’s made good progress painting our Dad’s face.
There’s red and black squiggles all over the place.
Now if she just adds some eye makeup too,
He’ll look like a baboon who belongs in the zoo.
The end
Chia: Thankfuls, hmmm. I’m thankful I don’t have to get a full table groom every month like Xena does. I would be tons thankful if I didn’t have to get my nails dremmeled every coupla months! Let’s see. Oh, I’m thankful that we had hardly any fireworks last Friday. They don’t bother me, but I get tired of seeing my sisters shake. It’s a bit disconcerting. Mom asked me why I don’t try to comfort them like I do her when she’s upset, and I just don’t have an answer for that. Oh yes, and I’m thankful to all of you wishing me a happy 5th birthday!! It’s really cool to have so many on-line friends. Also, Miss Jentry came over last Sunday, I think to wish me a belated happy birthday. And she celebrated her son Connor’s 21st birthday while she was here. He’s moved in with us and is settling in the downstairs “in-law” suite. I’ve heard that Connor and his Mom lived here for a coupla years back when Conor was like 8 and 9 years old. He knew Angel Lexi and Angel Riley. Angel Riley used to sleep in bed with him

Lucy: I’m also really thankful there were only a few fireworks! And that I’m back visiting with all my Al-Anon friends at work.
Chia: Oh yeah, I heard the folks are going away tomorrow and Saturday nights to 2 big dances in Knoxville, a couple of hours from here. And that Miss Clare from next door and her little brothers and sister are going to take care of us. Woo hoo! *great big wags* We have fun with them and I’m extra good when they take me for walks. Her sister is kinda small and I don’t want to pull her down the road. (Mom’s thinking about hiring them to walk me at least a few days every week…that would be a great late birthday present!)
Guess that’s it for now, friends. Hope everyone is doing great and doing what you love to do!

Celebrating My Birthday: Chia’s Fun Moments

We’re still celebrating my birthday today. I’m getting a “birthday weekend!” I had a great birthday yesterday!! Mom took me for a long walk around the neighborhood. Just me! (She hasn’t been walking me cause of how hard I pull and it’s just not fair.)
Here’s some more of what I did…
We’ve had these treat puzzles, but don’t get to use them very often. My sisters got to use the treat puzzles too. I remembered how to get all the treats out, so XeBoo didn’t have to help me this time. She was too busy throwing the pieces in the air to get at the treats in her puzzle, anyhow!
Then I got my present:

A squirrel! I was so excited!
I took the squirrel out into the dog lot to see if it would run so I could chase it. Nope. So I brought it back in the house where I decided to finish it off.

It’s still with us and I’m still not naming it. Guess I’ll have to keep trying to catch the mouse in the house. Mom said that’s my job.
I’m Chia, mighty hunter and birthday weekend girl.

Lucy with Thankful Thursday Poem
This is Lucy back again on my birthday month, having fun with a picture by Angel Sammy And, as always I’m thankful for Angel Brian, who does such a great job at hosting Thankful Thursday. Here’s the picture for this week:

The Pool and the Cool Hound by Lucy
The game got cancelled, so what can we do?
How ’bout something different, something new?
There’s a new kiddie pool in the back yard.
So they stripped to their shorts with disregard
For children or pets who might be around.
They said, “Look! That pups laughing! What a cool hound.”
OK, so I don’t actually have “hound” in me. I’m 1/3 AmStaff, 1/3Pit Bull, and 1/3 Boxer. My Mom says that’s a really great mix, and I’m proof of it. *wags and full teeth smiles* But I’m thankful I got to do the poem again this week. And I’m thankful the snow has gone away, too.
Chia: I’m thankful Mom took us to the dog park last Friday. And she didn’t yell at me even one time to stop pulling.

You can see that there was still snow and mush on some parts of the walkway. And wow, look at Lucy’s crazy shadow! I’m thankful that dog isn’t coming after me. Hey Luce, why did you kinda hang back so much? Mom was being super nice with her soft voice on the whole walk and didn’t even try to slow me down.
Lucy: I guess cause she kept wanting me to cross in front of her instead of behind her. I was just trying to be polite. But she said I was going to knock her down with the leash pulling against the back of her legs. I felt bad I almost knocked her down, so I stayed back behind her.
Chia: Next time, Luce the Deuce, just do what she says. She had to keep gently saying, “Come on Lucy, hurry up Lucy, come on up front with us, Lucy.” Although, come to think of it, that did take the focus off me.
Xena: Yeh, Lucy, why can’t you and Chia just be perfect walking companions like me? *wags* My turn for a thankful. I am thankful that I am a perfect walking companion for my Mommy, and don’t pull on the leash or lag behind! Once in a while I stop to sniff, but that’s just my natural curiosity, and Mommy understands that.
Lucy and Chia: Phhthhhhh!
Lucy, Chia and Xena the Perfect Walking Companion wishing you a Happy and Thankful Thursday!
Lucy and Snow
*shiver* I’m just thinking about how cold that snow is that I have to walk in to go potty! It started right on time at eight o’clock this morning. After about an hour Mom took me and Xena out to do our busyness in the front yard.

You can see there wasn’t much snow, but neither of us would go walking in it to do what we needed to do! A little while later Mom suited up Chia and out we went again.

None of us still would go far enough in it to do our busyness. Chia wouldn’t even come off the top step, not even to run down and say hi to the neighbor folks walking their Jack Russel mix. This is Chia’s first snow!
A few hours later there were three or four inches of snow on the ground.

I finally made the snow yellow. I know this isn’t a big deal to most of our friends. But we haven’t had any snow since Chia came to live with us three years ago. Our driveway, as you can see, is downhill, and the exit from our subdivision is downhill too, where you have to turn right or the other direction on a busy two lane highway. So pretty much no one goes anywhere when it’s like this, and most businesses close. Even Mom and Dad’s monthly dance cancelled for tonight — not that they were venturing out in this anyhow!

Chia found bare ground under the living room’s overhang and she did what she had to there.
I finally said enough is enough. I want to go in the house and curl up somewhere warm and without this cold, wet, white stuff.

I fell on my face coming up those snowy stairs. That’s why I have snow on my nose! Don’t worry, though, I’m OK.
Hoping all y’all are safe and happy. And thanks to Rosy and Sunny of The LLB Life for hosting this snowy Nature Friday!
Love, Lucy, the birthday month girl!

In Shanaya’s home:
Chia: Come on, you guys, stop backing away from me.

Shanaya, I know you’re a ninja or blackbelt or something else totally pawsome. But I can run faster than you. Besides, I didn’t come here to hurt anyone. Quite the opposite! Sissie, I had to clear things up between us. I need you to know that I didn’t put that pillow on your head. I’m telling the truth. I would never ever hurt you, at least not on purpose. You’re my sister and, well, uh, it’s hard for me to say, but… I love you. You’re part of my pack, an important part, and well, geez this is hard to say…you’re my sister. Please come home with me.

Xena: *sob and happy wags* I love you too! Let’s go home
Chia: You can stop hugging me now.
Back in court…

Xena: Judge Lucy, please don’t put Chia in jail! She’s my sister and I need her.
Chia: You can stop hugging me now, Xena.
Judge Lucy: Chia, you admitted guilt on deading- or at least attempting to deadie – Ludwig. Even though Ludwig will never be the same, he has sent word that he does not want to see you prosecuted. He understands it’s just in a dog’s nature. Admitting what you did even in the face of consequences was a growth moment in itself for you.
There was no proof in attempted stuffie deading of two other stuffies.
Xena believes that you love her and didn’t try to hurt her. She thinks she may have twisted around in her sleep and the pillow fell over her face.
Chia: So what’s the bottom line, Judge Judy, er, Lucy?
Judge Lucy: 1. On charges of attempted first degree stuffie deading: guilty and pardoned. 2. On charges of attempted stuffie deading: charges dropped. 3. On charges of attempted murder of your sister: not guilty. Case dismissed.
Chia: Let the whole world rejoice! (Well, at least all my friends!)
Peace on earth, good will toward men and dogs and stuffies.

Chia: Xena, we’re home. You can stop hugging me now.
The end.
Chia’s Nails and Dance Hopes on Sunday Selfie
Thanks to The Cat on My Head for hosting Sunday selfies.

Chia: Hey Miss Jentry, I’m so waggin’ glad you came over to stay with us last night. I like snuggling up with you to sleep. And all that food you cooked today smelled so yummy! *whole body wags*

Miss Jentry: I love you too, Chia, and I know what you’re trying to do. But your Mom said not to give you any of it.
Chia: Well, in that case, I’m gonna go with my Dad. After all, I wanna show off my pretty new nail polish!

Chia: Dad’s going to play his horn with the big band at a private party. They’ll think I’m so cute they’ll let me in, and I know how to dance, you know. I learned freestyle dancing from Mom and Xena.
Hey Dad, you look really nice. So do I. Miss Jentry gave me a bath and painted my nails like candy canes. I wanna go to the dance with you. *whole body wags* I’m ready to go! Let’s go! Let’s go!

Dad Jeff: Uh, Amy, did you tell Chia she could go with me? She’s even got her harness on to go.
Mom Amy: Nope. It was all her idea. Good luck dissuading her.
Chia’s Thankful Thursday Poetry
Can you believe my sis Xena gave the OK for me to do the poetry again this week!? Let’s do it and have some fun with it! But first, thanks to Angel Brian who is hosting Thankful Thursday, as well as Angel Sammy for the fun picture every week.

My Food Fridge Crisis by Chia
“My food fridge has been stolen!”
I gasped between bites of supper.
Now I feel
Sad and and real…angry.
Do I eat or do I chase?
“I’ve called the cops,”
My sweet sister woofed.
It is finished.
The thieves interned,
The fridge returned.
O Happy day! My body wagged.
Joyful running between bites of breakfast.
Now I feel
Happy and real…thankful
Do I play or finally sleep?
Lucy and Xena: *applause, applause, applause* Great job, Chia! You took a chance on a different kind of poetry and it worked! And we’re both thankful that our fridge wasn’t really stolen.
Chia: Gee, thanks! I don’t think y’all have ever complimented me before! I’m thankful that we’ve had pretty weather and gone on lots of walks, even at the greenway!
Mom Amy: And I’m thankful that I have vacation time to use between now and the end of the year and can take off more days to spend with you precious girls! Now, how about another walk?
Thankful Poetry Thursday by Chia
Thanks to Angel Brian for hosting Thankful Thursday as well as Angel Sammy for the fun pictures every week. Today I got up before Xena so I could make the poem for the picture. And here it is…

Open Wide by Chia
Hey lady, that’s right, open up wide
And let me take a good look inside.
I’m heading to college and need to decide
What type of service I will soon provide.
Dentistry is high up on my list…
I’ve also thought of being a linguist.
But these gorgeous teeth I can’t resist.
My mind’s made up, thanks for your assist!
I’m not sure I’d want a monkey looking in my mouth, let along messing with my teeth, ya know?
Anyhoo, Lucy’s finally back home — and so’s my Dad. I’m super thankful for that! Xena’s playing with me more, too, and that’s been nice. I’ll be even more thankful when the weather cools off a bit and we can go walking when Mom gets home from work. Hope to see y’all again soon!
XOXOXOXOX Chia!

Chia Celebrates Her Birthday
Man, my July 4th birthday was all it was cracked up to be! So far so good with the fireworks…but it’s still daylight. I may have to try to comfort Lucy and Xena later on tonight. I’ll just remind Mom about the CBD oil and valerian. That should do it!
My day started off with a great walk around the neighborhood with my folks and Lucy and Xena. I was hoping I’d see my friend Pam or my friend Ron but it must have been too early for them to be out.
Around noon Mom surprised us all with meaty raw beef rib bones. OMD! They were so good!!! Lucy chewed hers up and ate it all before me and Xena had even gotten all the meat off ours. I kept mine hidden outside and chewed on it off and on all day. Finally Mom traded me a treat for the little bit that was left. Deal!
Then, just before all the folks sat down to eat their holiday feast Mom gave me my present to dig out of a bag!

At first I thought the thing was a mop head. I thought, “What the heck, a mop head might be fun to play with, right?” Then I got it clear out and started to smell treats. Even the best mops don’t smell like treats…

On the back of the mop head were little X-es that were cut open with a treat in each one. Later, Mom confessed to having put them there. Here’s what the insert said about what I found out wasn’t a mop:
Eddie the Eel
“Eddie is not your ordinary dog toy; he’s a daring deep-sea explorer! With his flexible body that can be rolled and twisted, Eddie loves to surprise your furry friend with hidden treats cleverly tucked away in his lifelike fish scales…the mop-like velvet fabric isn’t just soft and huggable, it’s also great for cleaning your pup’s teeth as they explore his unique texture.”
So his name is Eddie and he’s an eel and he’s my new toothbrush that sometimes gives me treats. Hmmm. At least he screams when I bite him!
Then I went back to the bag, thinking I’d missed something, and sure enough, there was another stuffie in there! (And that weird thing on the front of my collar is a Gee Pee Ess tracker. I can’t run off anywhere without them knowing and finding me!)

Back to my present number 2. A duck. Hmmm. Looks like a dead duck to me.
Hey, Mom, is this duck dead? I found it that way. I didn’t do it!

Come on, I”ll take you..wait! You’re screaming! And making crinkly noises! Hey, you might be fun to play with after all! I think I”ll call you Howard.
“Yawn” It’s been a good day…

…I wonder what we’ll do tomorrow…
