Happy Tuesday: Chia’s Walk with Gracie

Chia: Hey there friends, do you remember last Thursday when I said “Gracie’s here! I’m thankful for another chance to try to get her to be my friend and play with me!!” Well, she said she doesn’t play. She said it had nothing to do with me. She just doesn’t play. But, she said, we could take walks together.

Yes! I love to go on walks! I love to pull as hard as I can so my toenails get ground down without that awful Dremel thingie. Off leash I can run about 1 point 5 million miles a minute! But Mom can’t keep up.

We walked all the way down to the cul-de-sac and around it toward home. This time, I walked without pulling so hard…or hardly at all!

After our last walk, Mom had figured out I have always known what she wants when she tells me to walk with her, and I’m just ignoring her. She says it hurts her arthritic thumbs and sometimes her whole arm every time she walks me. (If she just took me off the leash it wouldn’t hurt, right?) Anyhoo, she took me out back to boot camp. She explained that if I didn’t start doing what I know to do someone’s boot was going to end up in my rear end. We practiced with some things she is sure I know, like “sit.” I often ignore that, too. But I suddenly felt motivated. You shoulda seen how fast my rear end hit the ground!

So I got to walk with Gracie, and Mom didn’t get upset with me. It was a pretty good day!

Thanks to Miss Sandee at Comedy Plus for hosting Happy Tuesday Blog Hop!

Exploring the Bad Dream Room: Lucy, Xena and Chia

We’re thankful for Angel Brian, who is hosting Thankful Thursday, as well as Angel Sammy for the picture every week. Let’s see what Angel Sammy has in store for us today. Oh, and you’ll notice we hopped into the picture!

The Bad Dream Room by Lucy, Xena and Chia

Xena
We found a room made just for us
The walls are for the curious.
If you flush after you pee.
The water’s fresh to drink, you see.

Chia
The floors are hard and make us dizzy;
There’s nothing here to keep us busy.
There is no bed on which to lay
Or stuffies here with which to play.

Lucy
We wonder if this is a hallucination.
It feels like we’re in a fancy pants dungeon.
If it’s a dream please wake us now;
We’ll be good pups, to this we vow!

Chia: We did it! We worked as a team! Woo hoo! We’re the three dogateers. *big whole body wags*

Xena: Did you forget your thankful, Chia?
Chia: That was my thankful. Just ’cause I didn’t say “I’m thankful for…” doesn’t mean it wasn’t!

Xena: Oh, ok. Well, today I’m not thankful for Mr. Wholehouse Generator who is living right outside the kitchen window. It starts yelling really loud and I start shaking really hard and looking for my Mommy to hold and protect me. Last Saturday Mommy took me down to the groom room while she worked on two King Charles Spaniels. We can’t hear W. Generator yelling down there. I didn’t exactly make friends with Mr. Bernie and Miss Dixie, but we didn’t fight, either. Anyhoo, something – I don’t know what – has to be done. I just can’t live like this, never knowing when it’s gonna come after me. *shiver*

Lucy: I’m sorry it scares you Xena. I’m thankful to have a sweet little sister like you. You can always cuddle up with me and I’ll protect you.

Xena: You will? *edging closer to Lucy*

Chia: Oh, knock it off Xena. Don’t you know that — all because of you — Mom set EPB [electric power board] to turn on right after the solar. That means that unless the electric company somehow can’t get us any electricity, you will never hear the stupid monster again.

Xena: I’m thankful for you, Chia. 💕

Chia: She’s thankful for me. I never thought I’d hear that from Xena.

Xena the Schnauzer: A Poem of Friendship and Fun

I’m thankful for Angel Brian, who is hosting Thankful Thursday, as well as Angel Sammy for the picture every week. Let’s see what Angel Sammy has in store for us today (with me added in for effect!).

Teddy and Xena by Xena

Teddy:
OMC! OMD!
A dog’s in my blog!
With those eyes and that beard
You’ve got me real scared!

Xena:
I’ve been sent by my Mom
To come play and have fun.
I’m not a mean terrier;
Just Xena Schnauzer Warrior.

Please don’t be afraid.
Let’s go hit the arcade!
Or we could chase critters
Or dine on pork fritters.

Whatever we do
I’ll defer to you
You’re my new friend
From now ’til the end.

Lucy: Bravo, Xena! It’s great to make new friends. We know that Teddy’s already our friend, so what a great poem. I’m thankful to have a sister like you.
Chia: Are you thankful to have a sister like me?
Lucy: Uh, I’m thankful for my sister.
Chia: Yay! You love me!!

Mom Amy: I also have a thankful or two. In the last two weeks, Jeff and I have gone to two big dances. One was a seven hour drive to Indianapolis. There was a live band and a huge dance floor in an amazing ballroom called the Rooftop. We even made some new dance friends with whom we sat at a front table. The other dance was much closer on Lookout Mountain, GA. After enjoying a delicious dinner, we danced to the music of Sweet Georgia Sound on another big dance floor. Jeff usually plays in that band…but he knows how to keep peace in our marriage. Which leads me to my next thankful….I’m most of all thankful for my husband, Jeff. He and I met 24 years ago while ballroom dancing and we still keep that spark alive in our marriage.

Dogs’ Gourmet Meals: A Happy Tuesday Feast

It’s happy Tuesday and we are here to show you something that makes all three of us very happy…our supper! Oh, and thanks to Miss Sandee at Comedy Plus for hosting Happy Tuesday Blog Hop!

Lucy: It’s said a picture’s worth a thousand words, so here you go…

I got chicken wings and strawberries and orange pieces and spaghetti squash (no wonder Mom and Dad like spaghetti!). There’s also our green tripe with organs and bone ground into it. I also got some of the Ollie’s brand gently cooked fresh beef with sweet potatoes, peas, spinach, and chickpeas.

Chia: Me too! I got all that too! *whole body wags* It takes me longer to chew up my chicken wing than it does Lucy. But everyone respects that and they leave me alone. Except for Mom who stands there and watches. Hmm, I wonder if she’s wanting some?

Xena: My supper is special cause I’m the Princess.

I never get any yucky chicken. Instead, I got Ollie’s gently cooked FRESH TURKEY with blueberries, kale, butternut squash, and spinach! And I also got the delicious green tripe mix, oranges, strawberries and spaghetti squash!

Yes, I’m the Supper Princess.

Mom’s Note: Xena is allergic to chicken.

This Stupid Schmuck by Chia

This Stupid Schmuck by Chia

I got this far and now I’m stuck;
It’s all ’cause of this stupid schmuck.
He has a treat in his pocket;
If he falls then I’ll eat it.

Lucy: I read your poem, Chia….I still love you.
Chia: ‘Cause I’m such a good poet?
Lucy: No. But I am thankful that you’re not really on that table. And I’m thankful I got so many pats and scritches and sweet talk from the Al Anon folks yesterday!
Xena: I’m thankful I get to go to work with Mommy today. And I’m thankful I get to cuddle up with her under the bed covers every night. I love my Mommy and she loves me (best)!
Chia: I’m thankful for the nice weather and more walks! And I’m ignoring your (best) comment. (grrrr) Oh, and I almost forgot…big thanks and tail wags to Angel Brian, who is hosting Thankful Thursday, as well as Angel Sammy for the picture every week.

Xena and Lucy Huddle Over History Emails

Xena: Mommy gets these “informative” emails. She says they’re pretty interesting. She let us see one she got not long ago. It was History Facts and was called “The Roman Emperor Caligula declared war on the sea.” That immediately reminded me and Lucy of someone in power in our country.

That was kinda scary…so we huddled closer…on Mommy.

Thanks to  Comedy Plus for hosting Awww Mondays!

Chia, Lucy and Xena: The Ultimate Comfort Showdown

Hey Lucy, look at me. I’m the Princess of the Princess and the Pea. I’m on a big comforter and a blanket, too. The guest room is getting painted, so they got piled in this chair. Now I’m the Princess of Comfort.

Lucy: I’ll show you comfy, Chia. When we woke up this morning, Mom covered me up with my soft bed blanket. The bed quilt was partly over me, too.

So who’s the princess now?

Xena: Me, I’m Xena Schnauzer Warrior Princess. And I’m the Princess of comfort too!
Soon my royal attendant (Mommy) will brush my princess hair, wash my princess face, brush my princess teeth and take me somewhere in my royal carriage.

Who do you think is the Princess, folks? (I even have my very own pillow and red blanket to match my bed!)

A big thanks to  Comedy Plus for hosting Awww Mondays!

Grooming with Mom: Rhett’s Tail

Lucy, Ace Reporter, here on the Groom Beat.

Today I have a “funny” to report to you. Rhett is a shih tzu who comes to Groomer Mom on a more or less – irregular basis. It had been about four months since last we saw him. Here he is in his “before” picture.

If you look closely at his tail, you will see some type of paper stuck in it. G. Mom laughed out loud when she saw what it was.

We can’t tell if it says he was “manufactured” in China. Being a shih tzu, he or his ancestors probably were!

Catch ya’ in a few months, Rhett.

Lucy, Ace Reporter, signing off.

Catch a Leprechaun: Our St. Patrick’s Day Adventure

First we want to give our Thanks to  Comedy Plus for hosting Awww Mondays! Second, HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY!!

Xena: Our Mommy was raised right across the street from her grandma, May Elizabeth Hanley. My Great Grandma was born in Kilbarry, County Rosscommon, Ireland in September 1888. That was 87 years ago times a bunch! That means our Mommy is half Irish!
We’ve been busy building a leprechaun trap. If we catch one he has to grant us three wishes. Or he can tell us where his pot of gold is located so that we’ll let him go free.

Chia: OK, that’s the last shamrock. I think we’re ready.
Xena: I smell one of them. They were here.
Lucy: I see some leprechauns in the tree line. We’d better go hide.

Chia: Oh no! Look what’s happening!! How’s that scandal getting our “fake” gold?

Lucy: It’s that pipe he’s playing. It’s making the rainbow pull everything in our trap into his pot o’ gold!

Xena: *shake* Is he gonna come after us when he realizes it’s just chocolate covered in gold foil?
Lucy: Nah. I heard that leprechauns love chocolate almost as much as they love gold. This is a not-very-well-know fact.
Chia: Race y’all home to see who can find the rest of the stash of “gold!”

Chia’s Poem on Thankful Thursday

Chia: I’m thankful for Angel Brian, who is hosting Thankful Thursday, as well as Angel Sammy for the fun picture every week. Let’s see what Angel Sammy has in store for us today. Of course my poem – and picture – are added.

Office Cake by Chia

Sheri’s hoping that old guy, Bob, her boss,
Won’t try to reach over and grab her arse.
Connor is thinking this party is lame;
He wants to go play his video game.

Office dog Chia is eyeing the cake,
Planning the fast move she’s going to take.
Boss Bob is lost in his thoughts, diddle dee
And realizes he really must pee.

As Sheri decides to make a quick break
She sees bringing Chia was a big mistake.
Chia’s muzzle deep in the boss’s cake,
Boss Bob reaches over, a quick feel to take.

Now Bob’s in the ER, Sheri has no job.
Chi’s in the shelter with more office dogs.
This story’s lesson is easy to see:
Taking your dog to work doesn’t mean me!

Xena: Yep, we all knew that lesson, Chi girl, although that’s not the reason Mommy doesn’t take you to work. I’m still feeling thankful that Mommy is taking me! And I’m thankful for the 100% grass fed beef I got in my food dish today. And for the strawberries and butternut squash and cauliflower. *drool*

Lucy: I’m thankful I got to go to work on Wednesday this week. The Al Anon folks come in at noon. They all love me and pet me and tell me how special and how pretty and how sweet I am. *smiles*

Chia: I know, Xeboo, Mom doesn’t want me to run out the door when it opens. There’s a real busy street out there. I guess I’m thankful that Mom loves me so much… *whole body wags*
Well, thanks, everyone, for reading my poem and our thankfuls today. Don’t worry, be happy! (I heard that on a song.)

Grooming with Mom: Gracie

Hi folks, Lucy, Ace Reporter here, with another episode of Grooming with Mom. Here here we are today with Gracie, an 8 month old Goldendoodle. Before we go any further, a shout out to Miss Sandee at Comedy Plus for hosting Happy Tuesday Blog Hop!

These folks have been coming regularly to Groomer Mom since 2021. First they came with Sophie, who passed last year at age 16. Then they added Sammy, who is now 15 1/2 years old!

Miss Gracie was one of a litter of Golden doodles bred by an Amish family. She was six months old when he wonderful new family adopted her. And she is terrified of her new dad. He is a great guy, and it’s obvious that his other pups have always loved him. The only thing that anyone can figure is how the Amish man treated Gracie and her litter mates. We know that most of the Amish view their animals as, well, as animals. They are only sources of food or money. *sigh*

Back to the groom. G. Mom forgot (again) to take a “before” picture. Think of her hair down in her eyes and he rest of her hair a couple of inches longer. Here is Gracie, groomed.

Gracie was extra good on the table. She did try to jump off once, but the strap G. Mom used on her surprised her when she got pulled back. She didn’t try again. She didn’t even mind having her nails cut! Uh, oh. I hope I didn’t just remind Mom that mine are getting a tad long…

Ace Reporter, Lucy, signing off with another successful groom (and going to hide on the bed).

Lucy: I’m thankful for Angel Brian, who is hosting Thankful Thursday, as well as Angel Sammy for the fun picture every week. This week I’m also thankful that my little sister, Xena, handed over the controls to me to do the Thursday picture poem. As a thank you, I’ve included her in my poem!

When Pigs Dance by Lucy

I saw these baby piglets
And how my heart did swell
I knew the could be dancers;
That they could do it well.

My Mom got them their outfits,
My sis Xena taught them moves.
I gave them lots of loving
And moisturized their hooves.

Their very first performance
Took the audience by storm.
The crowd threw fruit and petals
So again they would perform.

In time they got much bigger,
And did not want to dance.
They moved out to a pig farm
Where they soon found romance.

Now they have their own piglets,
As cute as they can be.
Maybe some day they’ll learn to dance
And come to visit me.

I’m thankful I get to go to work with Mom regularly now. I was so happy to see Pastor today that I was jumping up and doing twists in the air. I got a new yummy treat from Thomas the Mailman. I was excited and started to walk away, but remembered to go back over to his truck to thank him. He liked that. And Mom brought my cookies, too. I got rewarded with one every time I went outside to go potty. That helped me realize that I had to go potty a lot!

Xena: Like Lucy, I’m thankful that I’ve been going to work with Mommy a lot more. And I’m even more thankful that she’s not making me wear those horrid “Big Girl Panties” at work. Oh, and I’m thankful that the weather has been getting warmer during the day, like in the 60’s F.

Chia: I’m thankful that I’ve had a few more walks around the neighborhood because of the nicer weather. (Mom’s a lightweight when it comes to walking in cold and wind. She says she doesn’t want to get sick.) And I’m thankful that Mom took me and Xeboo to practice our Freestyle last Sunday. I heard we’re going again this Sunday too! Woohoo!

With *wags & wiggles & hops* Lucy, Xeboo, er, Xena, and Chia

Thankful Poetic Thursday with Xena

Xena: I finally reclaimed my blog. *sigh* Hmmm, my birthday’s in four months, so maybe I’ll just try to keep it as mine until then. Unless I’m tired or too busy. Then maybe I’ll let Chia or Lucy do some blogging. Yep, that’s what I’ll do.

I’m thankful for Angel Brian, who is hosting Thankful Thursday, as well as Angel Sammy for the fun picture every week. Let’s see what Angel Sammy has in store for us today. Of course my poem – and picture – are added.

They Let In a Kid! by Xena the Schnauzer

Since Walmart allowed anipals to shop
The odd pets I see are over the top.
First bunnies and more, nothing did they forbid.
But what were they thinking letting in a kid?
The End

Lucy: Great job, Xena, even a double entendre.

Xena: Hmm, thanks, I think. *changing subject* So, Lucy, what thankfuls do you have today?

Lucy: I’m thankful I got to go to work with Mom yesterday. Us pups don’t normally go on Wednesdays because of two groups that come. The Al-Anon group comes at noon, and they all love dogs. They even want to make me their official therapy dog. It’s the second group who come at 1:30 who have folks who don’t think dogs belong in the church. That group got canceled this week! Plus, I got a treat from Thomas the Mailman and one of the Al-Anon ladies. I was real excited to see Pastor, too.

Chia: My turn! I’m thankful that Mom is including me in Freestyle. Me and Xena, we work real good together. I love going and I love dancing and I especially love the treats that goes with it!

Xena: We’re all thankful for our good Blogville friends, their support and kind words. Everyone have a great weekend!!

Celebrating Valentine’s with My Furry Friends

I’ve been around blogville for 8 of my 9 years here one earth. I thought I’d share a few of my valentines with you, if you don’t mind.

First, MY first Valentine’s Day in my furever home, 2017:

“…Until this year, I never got to celebrate Valentine’s Day, so I didn’t know what to expect. I got a card in the mail addressed just to me!…I don’t know who Madeline Rose is, but it still made me feel good. 🙂 Amy said it was really from some good friends [Uncle Bill and Auntie Jen] I haven’t met yet. Oh boy, I can hardly wait to meet them!

When Riley found out about my card, he got jealous! While we were playing, he whispered in my ear.

Lucy, will you be my Valentine?

And I whispered back…

Yes, Riley, I like you lots.

After that, Riley taught me how to deadie my only toy.

…and then you rip off the arms.

Then came 2018…

“Just when I was feeling really low ’cause of my (ex)boyfriend skipping out on me, a very handsome kittie with a heart as big as Texas (or Canada) put a smile on my face and wag in my tail. Purrince Siddhartha Henry sent me my first ever Valentine’s Day Card.

“Yes! I will be your Valentine, Siddhartha Henry. (I think that will make me your Purrincess for the day.)”

Just a quick note here: I confess to being “bi.” I love both dogs and cats. I hope no one thinks less of me for that. OK, moving on to my 2019 valentine.

Moving on in 2019…

At some point, Big Boy and I got to be boyfriend and girlfriend…

“I got so excited about Valentine’s Day this year that I made my honey a pretty card with my picture on it and sent it to him early. Here it is. Do you see my best happy face? I hope my pose isn’t too provocative. I sure do hope BB likes my card. I made it with love.

Look what Big Boy sent me! He even put me in a heart.  Don’t we look like we belong together? Yes, Big Boy! I will be your Valentine!!”

Today, 2025:

Dear Achilles, I hope you don’t mind getting the same card again this year. I realized I want to do all the same things with you. It just made sense to send it again.

Still your best (and only) girl,

Lucy

Lucy’s Selfie Sunday

Hi folks. It’s a lazy kinda day. Miss Jentry and Andrew are here, Chia’s with them, and Xena’s napping.

Even Larry Lemur and the squid (I forget it’s name) are napping together. It’s a bit cooler today, and I can hear the wind blowing, so I’m waiting to see if someone is going to start a fire in the fireplace. Then I’ll just curl up and warm my toes while I nap. I think I’ll do that even if there isn’t a warming fire. The Super Bowl is tonight, and I can already smell the yummy snacks Mom and Miss Jentry are fixing. I sure hope I get some of them! May your team win!!

Thanks to The Cat on My Head for hosting Sunday selfies.

Lucy’s Thankful Thursday Poetry

Lucy: I’m thankful for Angel Brian, who is hosting Thankful Thursday, as well as Angel Sammy for the fun picture every week. And I’m thankful my sis Xena didn’t realize what day it was, BOL! So, here’s the picture and poem. Enjoy!

Dance And Romance by Lucy

It’s time for us spinsters to go out on the town.
We took an Uber to good old Chatt Town.
We’re all wearing feathers; Maude’s wearing a frown.
I hope we don’t do anything to live down.

We’ve gone to a ballroom; we may even dance.
There’s more ladies than men I see at first glance.
But still we can hope that we’ll each get a chance
To find a good partner for dance and romance.
The end.

I hope everyone knows that I just made something up for a poem. I leave the dancing to my sisters, and I already have a boyfriend, Achilles. Just look at this picture.

Can you see my tail wagging? Achilles is about to kiss me!

Chia: Ick! I don’t need no stupid boyfriend. I’m thankful I have my Dad, who loves me. I get in his lap and make him laugh so I can real quick stick my tongue in his mouth.

Lucy and Xena: Ewwwwww.

Xena: I’m thankful that we’ve had warm weather. It’s been in the 70’s F. and we’ve gone on walks around the neighborhood every day. On Wednesday we even got to visit with Miss Pam in her front yard. She lives right up the street from us.

Chia: I heard Miss Jentry and Mom talking about going hiking on some nearby mountain this coming Saturday. I bet they take me! *whole body wiggles*

Lucy: Well, that’s all the fantasy for today *looking at Chia*. Everyone have a wonderful weekend!

My Last Birthday Month Poem

I do hope Xena lets me do the poems more throughout the year. But this is my last one for January.

The Idjit and the Horse by Lucy

I saw that horsie coming and I squeezed my eyes shut tight
But she made it o’re that idjit with a clearance oh so slight.
Now I see this quarter horse not more than 14 hands.
After she jumps this idiot he may be no more a man.

Poor guy. I wonder if this is some kind of punishment. *sigh* I’m thankful my Mom never punishes me. I always try to be a good girl. Once in a while I have messed up and she has scolded me, so I’m also thankful that she forgives me almost right away, too.

Chia: I’m thankful all that cold white stuff is gone from our yard. And I’m thankful that I get to pick between Andrew and Mom for where I sleep at night.

Xena: I’m thankful for…I don’t know. It’s not been a great week. I messed up at church last week on the carpet in the chapel and Mommy stepped in it and well, things went downhill from there. I mean, she didn’t punish me or anything, but, well, I may not be going back. Or I may have to wear my big girl panties if I do. I don’t know which is worse. And I’ve been wanting to sleep on the couch where I’m already curled up on a soft blankie instead of getting up and going into the bedroom with Mommy. Then I get cold or scared or lonely and go pound on the door to get let in. I guess I should have learned by now to not wake up my Mommy. It doesn’t go well. Is this the kind of stuff that happens when you’re only four months away from turning eight years old?

Chia: Now I’m also thankful I’m not Xena. Maybe Mom will take me to work instead!

Xena: Yep, Chia, I heard Mommy talking about when she’s going to take you.

Chia: When? Tell me! *wags*

Xena: When H-E-double hockey sticks freezes over. But she didn’t spell it, she said the word.

Lucy: I think (hope) that’s all we’ve got for today. Before we go, I want to thank  Angel Sammy for the fun picture and, as always, I’m thankful for Angel Brian, who does such a great job at hosting Thankful Thursday.

Lucy with Thankful Thursday Poem

This is Lucy back again on my birthday month, having fun with a picture by Angel Sammy And, as always I’m thankful for Angel Brian, who does such a great job at hosting Thankful Thursday. Here’s the picture for this week:

The Pool and the Cool Hound by Lucy

The game got cancelled, so what can we do?
How ’bout something different, something new?
There’s a new kiddie pool in the back yard.
So they stripped to their shorts with disregard
For children or pets who might be around.
They said, “Look! That pups laughing! What a cool hound.”

OK, so I don’t actually have “hound” in me. I’m 1/3 AmStaff, 1/3Pit Bull, and 1/3 Boxer. My Mom says that’s a really great mix, and I’m proof of it. *wags and full teeth smiles* But I’m thankful I got to do the poem again this week. And I’m thankful the snow has gone away, too.

Chia: I’m thankful Mom took us to the dog park last Friday. And she didn’t yell at me even one time to stop pulling.

You can see that there was still snow and mush on some parts of the walkway. And wow, look at Lucy’s crazy shadow! I’m thankful that dog isn’t coming after me. Hey Luce, why did you kinda hang back so much? Mom was being super nice with her soft voice on the whole walk and didn’t even try to slow me down.

Lucy: I guess cause she kept wanting me to cross in front of her instead of behind her. I was just trying to be polite. But she said I was going to knock her down with the leash pulling against the back of her legs. I felt bad I almost knocked her down, so I stayed back behind her.

Chia: Next time, Luce the Deuce, just do what she says. She had to keep gently saying, “Come on Lucy, hurry up Lucy, come on up front with us, Lucy.” Although, come to think of it, that did take the focus off me.

Xena: Yeh, Lucy, why can’t you and Chia just be perfect walking companions like me? *wags* My turn for a thankful. I am thankful that I am a perfect walking companion for my Mommy, and don’t pull on the leash or lag behind! Once in a while I stop to sniff, but that’s just my natural curiosity, and Mommy understands that.

Lucy and Chia: Phhthhhhh!

Lucy, Chia and Xena the Perfect Walking Companion wishing you a Happy and Thankful Thursday!
