Lucy’s Thankful Thursday Poetry

Lucy: I’m thankful for Angel Brian, who is hosting Thankful Thursday, as well as Angel Sammy for the fun picture every week. And I’m thankful my sis Xena didn’t realize what day it was, BOL! So, here’s the picture and poem. Enjoy!

Dance And Romance by Lucy

It’s time for us spinsters to go out on the town.
We took an Uber to good old Chatt Town.
We’re all wearing feathers; Maude’s wearing a frown.
I hope we don’t do anything to live down.

We’ve gone to a ballroom; we may even dance.
There’s more ladies than men I see at first glance.
But still we can hope that we’ll each get a chance
To find a good partner for dance and romance.
The end.

I hope everyone knows that I just made something up for a poem. I leave the dancing to my sisters, and I already have a boyfriend, Achilles. Just look at this picture.

Chia: Ick! I don’t need no stupid boyfriend. I’m thankful I have my Dad, who loves me. I get in his lap and make him laugh so I can real quick stick my tongue in his mouth.

Lucy and Xena: Ewwwwww.

Xena: I’m thankful that we’ve had warm weather. It’s been in the 70’s F. and we’ve gone on walks around the neighborhood every day. On Wednesday we even got to visit with Miss Pam in her front yard. She lives right up the street from us.

Chia: I heard Miss Jentry and Mom talking about going hiking on some nearby mountain this coming Saturday. I bet they take me! *whole body wiggles*

Lucy: Well, that’s all the fantasy for today *looking at Chia*. Everyone have a wonderful weekend!

Freestyle Fun with Xena and Chia

We finally, after 87 months, went back to the Obedience Club of Chattanooga to work on our Freestyle. We had good news, too. Because I, Chia, had never titled (cause I just started) we could start as a brace at level 2B.
Xena: These folks might not know what a brace is, Chia, so I’ll explain. A brace is when there is one person (Mommy) with two dogs (me and Chia).
Chia: Well some of them might not know what Freestyle is either. I’ve head Mom explain it to people so many times that I’ve got that down. “clears throat” Freestyle is coordinated dancing between a person and a dog, where the dog has as much say in what happens as the person.” (I really like that last part!)
OK, now that we have all our definitions in place, I’ll continue. We were first told that we had to start at level 3.The reason that starting at 2B is a good thing is that we don’t have to do some of the more advanced moves and we can make our routine a whole minute shorter. And that means Mom’s aging brain can actually remember it, BOL!
Xena: That wasn’t nice, Chia.
Chia: I’m just repeating what I heard Mom say, Xena.

Xena: Ok, ok. What we’ve got to show you today is something fun. Miss Julia, our friend and trainer, presented a little challenge to everyone. She handed each person a slip of paper that had 2 words written on it…words that were opposites. Then the person had help their pup to illustrate those opposites with a short routine and everyone else was to guess what the words were. We were all given 10 minutes to work on it. Ours was fun and easy and made folks smile. See if you can guess what the two opposite words are. You know, like light and dark (not our words, so don’t guess that). The video is only about 14 seconds long, so be sure to watch, OK? And you might want to mute your device. There’s a distracting dog screaming in the background.

Chia and the Bone

Hi! Hi! It’s me, Chia! I’ve got Mom helping me write this cause, well, someone stole and is working on the bone I stole and was working on. It’s one of Lucy’s birthday bones. In other words, someone stole my stolen bone!! How rude.

It started like this.

Hey, Luce the Deuce left her bone here.

Mmmm, it’s good but kinda dry. I need to go get a drink of water.

Oh no! I haven’t even got off the couch yet and my sis has moved into my territory. Xena! Get away from my bone that I stole from Lucy! Dog! She’s playing “deaf.” What to do…

Dear Lord, I pray, please give me back my bone that was Lucy’s bone and that Xena stole from me.

After two minutes of constant prayer and supplication, including whining and occasional growls…

My prayers were answered. I found Lucy’s other bone and it’s even better! Now Xena’s in a bone coma and I’ve got Lucy’s big knuckle bone.

My Last Birthday Month Poem

I do hope Xena lets me do the poems more throughout the year. But this is my last one for January.

The Idjit and the Horse by Lucy

I saw that horsie coming and I squeezed my eyes shut tight
But she made it o’re that idjit with a clearance oh so slight.
Now I see this quarter horse not more than 14 hands.
After she jumps this idiot he may be no more a man.

Poor guy. I wonder if this is some kind of punishment. *sigh* I’m thankful my Mom never punishes me. I always try to be a good girl. Once in a while I have messed up and she has scolded me, so I’m also thankful that she forgives me almost right away, too.

Chia: I’m thankful all that cold white stuff is gone from our yard. And I’m thankful that I get to pick between Andrew and Mom for where I sleep at night.

Xena: I’m thankful for…I don’t know. It’s not been a great week. I messed up at church last week on the carpet in the chapel and Mommy stepped in it and well, things went downhill from there. I mean, she didn’t punish me or anything, but, well, I may not be going back. Or I may have to wear my big girl panties if I do. I don’t know which is worse. And I’ve been wanting to sleep on the couch where I’m already curled up on a soft blankie instead of getting up and going into the bedroom with Mommy. Then I get cold or scared or lonely and go pound on the door to get let in. I guess I should have learned by now to not wake up my Mommy. It doesn’t go well. Is this the kind of stuff that happens when you’re only four months away from turning eight years old?

Chia: Now I’m also thankful I’m not Xena. Maybe Mom will take me to work instead!

Xena: Yep, Chia, I heard Mommy talking about when she’s going to take you.

Chia: When? Tell me! *wags*

Xena: When H-E-double hockey sticks freezes over. But she didn’t spell it, she said the word.

Lucy: I think (hope) that’s all we’ve got for today. Before we go, I want to thank  Angel Sammy for the fun picture and, as always, I’m thankful for Angel Brian, who does such a great job at hosting Thankful Thursday.

This is Lucy back again on my birthday month, having fun with a picture by Angel Sammy And, as always I’m thankful for Angel Brian, who does such a great job at hosting Thankful Thursday. Here’s the picture for this week:

The Pool and the Cool Hound by Lucy

The game got cancelled, so what can we do?
How ’bout something different, something new?
There’s a new kiddie pool in the back yard.
So they stripped to their shorts with disregard
For children or pets who might be around.
They said, “Look! That pups laughing! What a cool hound.”

OK, so I don’t actually have “hound” in me. I’m 1/3 AmStaff, 1/3Pit Bull, and 1/3 Boxer. My Mom says that’s a really great mix, and I’m proof of it. *wags and full teeth smiles* But I’m thankful I got to do the poem again this week. And I’m thankful the snow has gone away, too.

Chia: I’m thankful Mom took us to the dog park last Friday. And she didn’t yell at me even one time to stop pulling.

You can see that there was still snow and mush on some parts of the walkway. And wow, look at Lucy’s crazy shadow! I’m thankful that dog isn’t coming after me. Hey Luce, why did you kinda hang back so much? Mom was being super nice with her soft voice on the whole walk and didn’t even try to slow me down.

Lucy: I guess cause she kept wanting me to cross in front of her instead of behind her. I was just trying to be polite. But she said I was going to knock her down with the leash pulling against the back of her legs. I felt bad I almost knocked her down, so I stayed back behind her.

Chia: Next time, Luce the Deuce, just do what she says. She had to keep gently saying, “Come on Lucy, hurry up Lucy, come on up front with us, Lucy.” Although, come to think of it, that did take the focus off me.

Xena: Yeh, Lucy, why can’t you and Chia just be perfect walking companions like me? *wags* My turn for a thankful. I am thankful that I am a perfect walking companion for my Mommy, and don’t pull on the leash or lag behind! Once in a while I stop to sniff, but that’s just my natural curiosity, and Mommy understands that.

Lucy with Another New Groom

Lucy, Ace Reporter here, with another new groom. Although this pup will look sort of familiar, I promise you, she is a different dog. Let’s get right to it.

Do you remember Pumpkin, the Doodle I reported on just a few days ago? Well, this here is Gracie, who sure does look a lot like Pumpkin. In fact, she came to us looking a lot like Pumpkin did before she was groomed. Groomer Mom totally forgot to take any pictures at all, probably because Gracie’s Dad stayed during most of the groom in case G.M. needed any help with her (she didn’t). He was kind enough to send us this picture after they got home.

Gracie was born on July 29 of 2024 and is a Golden Doodle. She came to the family to keep Toby, their wild Doodle, company. She’s not too crazy about her big brother, but at least it keeps Toby busy and away from poor little Sammy, a shih tzu mix, who is 15 years old. Toby’s gotten too big for Small Dog Grooming, but Sammy still comes for a groom on a regular basis.

Ludwig Returns

Xena: Ludwig! Is that really you?

Shanaya: It is he, Xexe. Or are you back to going by Xena since you are home?
Xexe/Xena: Is that you, Shania? I thought I just saw you in the living room…or is it you, Shanaya??
Shanaya: I should feel hurt that you don’t recognize me after sleeping in my bed in Bavaria. But I do understand this is all quite confusing.
Ludwig: I couldn’t stand to be away from you another moment, my precious Xena. You’ve been on my mind day and night. Oh, and I have brought you a present from Paris, some perfume.

Please excuse that Shanaya and I have used some of it. We discovered some fleas on us just before we got on the plane at Charles de Gaulle Airport. It was the only thing we had to kill them. Let me come closer so you can smell the wonderful scent of this exotic perfume.

Do you like what you smell, my love? Still, it is nothing compared to your beauty.
Xena: *blushing* I haven’t even brushed my hair yet this morning *paws at beard*…Chia! Get back! Stay away!

Chia: I wanna finish what I started.
Xena: Haven’t you hurt Ludwig enough? Haven’t you caused enough pain and turmoil? Look, he is shaking! Get back, go away, or I will bite off your tail so it’s as short as mine.
Chia: *slowly backing away so her tail is not facing Xena* You’re living in some alternate universe fantasy world, sister. Ludwig. Is. Just. A. Stuffie! This isn’t over yet. *turns and runs out of the room, stealing Lucy’s birthday bone on the way*

Xena: Mmmm. You smell wonderful Ludwig. I will think of you every time I use it. And now it is time for you to go back to Bavaria with Shanaya. Or anywhere else you want to go except where there are terriorists, especially Chia. I’ll always love and think about you too, sweet boy. You’re so much more than just a stuffie.
Now, I’ll ask Mommy to take you to the airport near here and help you and Shanaya get a flight out of town.

Ludwig: Remember, I will always adore you Xexe Xena, the love of my life. I will write you. Adieu for now.

R.I.P Sweet Everly

This morning we lost Everly, a dear neighbor and friend who came to be groomed. It makes us all sad.

This is an excerpt from my report on Everly when she first started coming to us in September of 2022:

Everly was rescued from a cruel puppy mill several years ago. At the puppy mill her tail was docked to “provide better access.” This reporter is not quite sure what that means, just that Groomer Mom choked back tears when she heard this. Everly is a quiet “soul”, gentle and cooperative. Her Mom said they named her Everly because they were giving her a for-“ever” home!

Everly, you have a new home now, a new furever home, on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge. Pumpkin has some big shoes to fill with you gone. We love you, Everly.

Lucy’s Picture Poem and Thankfuls

Lucy: First,  I’m thankful for the picture by Angel Sammy And, as always I’m thankful for Angel Brian, who does such a great job at hosting Thankful Thursday.
Today I’m nine years and two days old.
Chia: Luce the Deuce, you’re not going to give your exact age every time you write a post, are you?
Xena: Most girls don’t tell their age. That’s what Mommy says.
Lucy: I’m proud of my age. I don’t look a day over eight! Anyhoo, as I was starting to say, this is my first poem at nine years old. Isn’t this just the sweetest picture? I think that’s how my Mom and Dad will be when they are 87 years old. Here we go…

Through the Eyes of Love by Lucy

We met a mere ten years ago and had no time to waste.
I knew I loved you, Geraldine, when first I saw your face.
Now on our anniversary I just want to say,
My love, you are more beautiful with every passing day.

Lucy: I think that’s the kind of love our folks have. It makes me happy, cause they love me and my sisters a lot, too. That’s my thankful this week.

Chia: I’m thankful that awful snow is gone. It was cold and wet and I didn’t like it at all. I hope it never comes back.

Lucy: But what about our brand new neighbors who have six kids? Mom told them they could sled down our big, steep front yard, and they were so happy. It made me wag!

Chia: True. And when brother Andrew went outside, one of them called him “sir.” BOLOLOL! He thought it was funny, too.

Xena: I’m thankful they don’t live with us. And I’m thankful Mommy finally opened up my kennel door so I could lay in there again.

Chia: What happened? Why’d she shut it? I couldn’t get in there either.

Xena: *hangs head* I wouldn’t listen to her. She told me to get out and come to bed, and I just laid there staring at her. I’d done that before, asserting my independence, ya’ know. But now I understand that I have to listen or there will be what’s called consequences.

Chia: What’re consequences?
Xena: Getting locked out of our, er my kennel!

Lucy’s Happy Birthday Tuesday

I sure hope you aren’t too tired of hearing about me having a birthday month, cause guess what? Today’s the day!!! When Mom and Dad got home from work Mom fed us all a half hour early. Yes, Xena and Chia, you’re welcome. *wags*

Then Mom gave me one of my two birthday presents. 100% natural, made in the USA, Beef Marrow Bone. The other present is a 100% natural, made in the USA, Beef Knuckle. They both have only one ingredient: bone! I had been wondering what was in that Chewy box. Here’s my Happy Birthday picture.

Fun with Mom’s Grooms: June and Cash

Hi there friends. This is Ace reporter Lucy with 2 more new grooms to tell you about. Groomer Mom once again forgot to take a “before” picture, but she said they weren’t in too bad of shape.

These sweet Maltese puppies were left for three days without any food or care before anyone discovered that their Mom had died of a stroke. A previous client, whose precious yorkie had died tragically at the paws and jaws of a Great Dane, was able to adopt them on January 1st.
Cash was born July 6 of last year, and is only five pounds. With G.M’s approval, his Mom stayed to help keep him calm. We think it may have been his first, or at most his 2nd, time being groomed.. Here is Cash after his groom, with his sweater on and ready to go back to his new home.

Cash wasn’t really on this blue blanket, but I asked my Mom if she would help me play with PicMonkey during this, my birthday month. I tried hard and hope you like it. Isn’t Cash pretty?

The other little Maltese goes by June. She was born February 16 of last year. She’s smaller than Cash at only four pounds. By the way, they aren’t related. It was obvious that June was used to being groomed and wasn’t in bad shape. She stood perfectly still on the grooming table while G.M. spiffed her up. Their new Mom had just given them both baths, so G.M. only washed their faces that had lots of eye goo (that’s a grooming term). Again, I asked Mom to help me show June off in a pretty PicMonkey picture.

It was a sad story with a happy ending for Cash and June. We’ll see them back in eight weeks at their next appointment.

Lucy’s Selfie Sunday

Thanks to The Cat on My Head for hosting Sunday selfies.

Just two more days and it’s my 9th birthday. I was laying in bed this morning after breakfast (which was an hour late but I didn’t complain) thinking about being 8.

It was a pretty good year. I got to go to the church a lot. And ate good food. And had my sisters here. But we lost Riley, and he and I were good friends. So that’s a sad thing. But he needed to go, I know. And I know I always seem to be self-confident when I write my blog. Just like I do when I see people other than my family.

But the truth is, I’m still scared of a lot of stuff, like if someone lifts their hand up like they might be going to hit me. No one ever hits me, or even almost hits me. It’s just from my first year before I got my furever Mom and Dad. Now I know I’m safe and loved. In fact, everyone seems to love me, so I should feel better about myself. Hey, maybe that’s why Mom named me “Lucy.” There’s a TV show – or so I’ve been told – called “I love Lucy.” Thanks, Mom. I love you and Dad too, and also Xena and Chia and all my friends in the neighborhood and at work, and all my blogging friends, too. So come visit me anytime you want, and I’ll always make you feel welcome.

Lucy and Our Friend Gracie

Since it’s my birthday month, I get to use Xena’s blog anytime I want to. And I want to tell all y’all about our friend Gracie coming to stay with us last month. I’ve heard that Gracie’s been coming over here since before Angel Lexi passed. They were kinda like friends. At least Lexi didn’t object to her being here. Gracie stayed with Mom and Dad the Christmas after Lexi became an angel. She even went to Fort Wayne with them and sat on Santa’s lap. Gracie’s a little girl with a big personality.

Do you see Xena’s sweater on Gracie? Xena didn’t mind her wearing it at all. Gracie tries to get along with everyone and within a day of being here she just becomes one of our pack. Mom didn’t want to let her go home this time and threatened to move next time she was here and not give her pawrents our new address, BOL. Uh, you don’t think she was serious, do you?

We had a cold spell in December and I got to wear my red plaid winter coat that I got for Christmas last year. Or maybe it was the year before. Anyhoo, it sure felt good when we went out to do our business early in the morning. The next day it had warmed up nice and neither of us had to wear a sweater or coat. Mom took just me and Gracie for a walk in the sunshine.

Gracie even started sleeping in Mom’s bed with us. It’ ok, she doesn’t take up much room. And Mom would cover her with a blanket so she didn’t get cold during the night.

So that’s my story of having a friend stay with us. I hope she comes back and visits again soon!

Lucy and Snow

*shiver* I’m just thinking about how cold that snow is that I have to walk in to go potty! It started right on time at eight o’clock this morning. After about an hour Mom took me and Xena out to do our busyness in the front yard.

You can see there wasn’t much snow, but neither of us would go walking in it to do what we needed to do! A little while later Mom suited up Chia and out we went again.

None of us still would go far enough in it to do our busyness. Chia wouldn’t even come off the top step, not even to run down and say hi to the neighbor folks walking their Jack Russel mix. This is Chia’s first snow!

A few hours later there were three or four inches of snow on the ground.

I finally made the snow yellow. I know this isn’t a big deal to most of our friends. But we haven’t had any snow since Chia came to live with us three years ago. Our driveway, as you can see, is downhill, and the exit from our subdivision is downhill too, where you have to turn right or the other direction on a busy two lane highway. So pretty much no one goes anywhere when it’s like this, and most businesses close. Even Mom and Dad’s monthly dance cancelled for tonight — not that they were venturing out in this anyhow!

Chia found bare ground under the living room’s overhang and she did what she had to there.
I finally said enough is enough. I want to go in the house and curl up somewhere warm and without this cold, wet, white stuff.

I fell on my face coming up those snowy stairs. That’s why I have snow on my nose! Don’t worry, though, I’m OK.

Xena’s Thankful Thursday and Ballerina Poem

Hi friends, it’s me, Xena, back again having fun with a picture by Angel Sammy And, as always I’m thankful for Angel Brian, who does such a great job at hosting Thankful Thursday. I told Lucy she could do the poem since it’s her birthday month, but she said that I’m the little dancer in the family, so I might as well be in this poem. Besides, she was trying to take a nap in a sunpuddle.

Ballerina, you must have seen her
Dancing with the troupe.
A little schnauzer,
A music whisperer,
Dreams she’s part of the group.

But, oh, how real it feels
Twirling on the floor
With fairies round her feet.
Only you, Mom, only you
Can see me dancing to the beat
Softly, slowly…

Xena: I want to thank Mr. Elton John for the inspiration for my poem today. (Can you hear the music in your head?)

Lucy: I knew you’d do a great job with this picture today, Tiny Dancer Xena. And if no one here minds, I’d like to give the thankfuls on this Thursday. I’m thankful for the big greenies like treat that Mom got me for Christmas, and smaller ones for Xena and Chia, too. As always, Mom read the packages carefully and determined that the Minties brand didn’t have anything harmful in it for us. Even though Mom brushes our teeth every day (almost-sometimes she misses a day), my teeth are starting to get some plaque, so we’re hoping these treats will help. And they’re soooo good! *wags* And I’m thankful for the homemade doggie Christmas cookies she made us all – in the shape of a bone – that have only really healthy ingredients and taste great! Some have tomato in them with oregano and some have pumpkin. I love them both. Well, after these thankfuls about food, I wonder how close it is to dinner time…or if it’s cookie time….gotta go check it out.

Grooming with Mom: Pumpkin

Lucy here, reporting on Grooming with Mom. It’s been a while, folks, since Groomer Mom has given me a new groom to report. Today I have news about a young sister to one of our regular neighborhood dogs You may remember Everly, the elderly King Charles Spaniel who lives across the street (and one house down, to be more accurate) from us. You can see and read about her here if you like.

Before we continue, I want to thank  Comedy Plus for hosting Awww Mondays!

Pumpkin came to live with Everly and her family because all the relatives said they needed another dog. And since Everly’s aunt had a Doodle stud, why not keep it in the family, so to say. At about 6 months old, Pumpkin finally came on over for her first groom. Here is her “before” picture.

G.M. (Groomer Mom) had already started scissoring her when she remembered to take the picture.
Pumpkin was extremely good “on the table,” especially for a first time. She’s only about 15 or 20 pounds, so if she doesn’t grow too much more, G.M. will be able to continue to groom her.
Her Mom asked for something kind of like a Teddy Bear cut, so the scissoring took almost an hour. Then came the bath, and she was still a very good girl. She wasn’t too crazy about the drying, though.

But even then she didn’t fight, she just tried to pretend it wasn’t happening! What a sweetie she is.
Finally, Pumpkin was done and ready for her folks.

They were thrilled with the results, and Pumpkin got more treats.

Lucy’s Birthday Month

Hi friends! My birthday is just one day before my Dad’s birthday.
Chia: Does that mean you’re a year older than him? Or just a day older?
Lucy: Mmmm, no, it doesn’t work that way. You have to factor in years and divide by a number and then add so many days.
Chia: Oh. Never mind. Are you gonna get something good? Are you gonna be so excited you’ll go outa your mind?
Lucy: Hmmm, no, it only works that way with you. But maybe I’ll get something good. I’ve been a very good girl all year. Mom says my picture is even in the dictionary, right next to the word “compliant.” Not sure what that means, but I always try to do what I’m supposed to do.

I just got my early birthday bath. I didn’t think I needed one. Mom took this picture to “prove” that I did. By the way, that’s Chia’s Edward the Duck laying by my feet. Don’t worry, I won’t hurt him.

Someone else in the house said I smelled bad, too. I was just trying to be there for him, ya know? Oh well, it was bath time. And I did a first for me. Always, always, always, when Mom said, “Get in the tub, Lucy.” I jumped in the tub (compliant). But this time I said, “I don’t want a bath.” We went back and forth like that several times, and I held to my stance. Except when Mom reached down to pick me up. When she did that, I dropped to the floor. Then, you won’t believe what happened! Mom was just standing there not looking at me and I was just standing there in silent protest and I thought, “Great, no bath,” when she reached down real fast and picked me up and put me in the tub. Aghh! At least she didn’t try to take my picture while I was getting showered.

A while later when I was all dry we all got to go out in the dog lot to do our “business.” Now I can see that I did need a bath to let my Hebrew name, Ora, shine through. Ora means light or brightness. Can you see all the bright light shining off me?

I hope I stay clean until my birthday on January 14. I hope someone scratches my tummy all day. That’s my favorite thing. Oh, and for a birthday present, Xena said I can make as many posts on “her” blog as I want all month long. So get ready, ’cause I’m gonna be at the computer a lot (as long as Mom doesn’t mind helping me). Oh, and this is my selfie today, as Ora!

Lucy’s Thursday Poetry and Thankfuls

As always, we give our thanks to Angel Brian who is hosting Thankful Thursday, as well as Angel Sammy for the fun picture every week. 

Xena: Since I didn’t want to deal with a mess of baby pandas, I asked Lucy to do the poem this week. This is right up her alley!

Lucy: Thanks, Xena. And she’s right; I love babies of any kind. So let’s get this poem going!

Panda Sitting

I started sitting baby pandas
And next thing that I knew
I was planning a New Years party
For baby pandas in the zoo.

They were so excited
With the treats and toys and fun
I had to watch them closely
That no one took off at a run.

They rolled around and giggled
And said I was their new Mom.
I couldn’t be more happy;
I love each and every one!

Xena: I’m thankful that my Mommy is finally starting to feel better from that nasty flu that I hope flew away and isn’t scaring me with her hacking and coughing and blowing.
Chia: I’m thankful I could be Mom’s therapy dog while she was sick. I stayed with her and cuddled her and I think I heard her say I’m her new favorite dog.
Xena: No! I don’t believe you. You should be thankful I don’t bite off your tail for saying that!
Chia: *grrrr*
Lucy: Stop. Mom loves us all. And we’re all her favorite pups. Now be thankful I don’t lay on you.
